One of these used to be teens is world-renowned Jeanne Wakatsuki. Jeanne Wakatsuki was born on September 26, 1934. She is best known for going to a Japanese Internment camp and writing the book, Farewell to Manzanar. Farewell to Manzanar is about Jeanne’s point of view of her life and what happened to her family. Manzanar is a Japanese internment camp that was built after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. American soldiers were scared that Japanese people were spies, so they rounded them up like cattle and put them in the camps. With everything happening obviously, it caused discrimination towards Japanese people. Discrimination and negative words plus actions directed towards them probably cause self-esteem issues. Jeanne’s father was upset by her decision and tried to convince his daughter to dress in traditional Japanese clothing and do more Japanese activities. In the movie, you can see Jeanne’s father's facial expressions of disappointment and frustration he has with Jeanne. He also asks how she will marry a Japanese boy if she acts and dresses like a Caucasian. Jeanne's father then uses a comparison saying Jeanne looks like all the other Caucasian girls if you put a sack over her face. This happens on pages 158 and 159, in the chapter “The Girl of My Dreams” in the book Farewell to Manzanar. “Papa didn’t mention my queenship again.
