Renaissance means rebirth. The Renaissance period was after the Middle Ages and included a reinterest in the art values or Rome and Greece. The Renaissance period arose in Italy in the fourteenth century. It included Italian artists Michelangelo, Leonardo Da Vinci, and Raphael. Before the Renaissance art period it was the period of Medieval art. The Medieval period started after the fall of the Roman Empire and continued until the beginning of the Renaissance period. The beginning of this period was also referred to as the Dark Ages. During this period works of art was dull and lifeless, however the finished displayed unification and harmonization. The beginning of art during the Middle ages lacked realism. Many of the artists did not put They also tried to bring the concept of art into their paintings.The purpose of Medieval art was mostly religious, since the fall the of the Roman Empire , intellect was lost so they turned to art to spread religion across Europe. Following this period of unrealistic paintings, the early Renaissance period began. This great rebirth began in Italy where bright ideas were introduced and then practiced. The Italians had the idea of the rebirth of Roman art. One of the big changes from art of the Medieval period to the Renaissance period was that humanism was introduced. This new idea put artist’s minds into a different focus, away from all religious focuses. During the early Renaissance, artists began to make works more realistic such as making human figures look more realistic and the practice of symmetry, which are all characteristics that the Medieval period lacked. During the Medieval period art included either Christian, Catholic, or bible aspects. During the Renaissance religious paintings were still produced however the art also branched out to other Greek subjects such as Greek and Roman mythology. Another big change from Medieval to Renaissance art was the use of realism. Humans and other aspects of the art began to look more like real life, possessing more emotional
