The Renaissance began in the late 14th century and reached its highest known point in the 15th and 16th centuries. This period followed the Middle Ages and made Europe see a revival of interest in classical learning along with values of ancient Greece and Rome. The Renaissance art sought to capture experiences of the individual rather than the many and also sought to capture the beauty of the regular world. It originated in Italy by Italian scholars and artists who wanted to reawaken the ideals of Roman culture. Some sought to reawaken the languages, values, and intellectual traditions of Rome. Unfortunately, during the time of the late 14th century, wars and the tragic Bubonic Plague kept people from making advances further into the Renaissance …show more content…
I find the color element to be the most prominent because of the well done contrasting of colors. The lightness of the model’s skin contrasts to the slightly darkened background to almost give her an otherworldly or angelic glow. The green in the background contrasts greatly with the russet brown of the mountain like trail that seems to be right behind the woman. Even her clothes show contrast because the sleeves are the same russet brown but the rest of her outfit is darker. Those darker colors make her skin tone seem lighter than normal and help to create that luminous or radiant color that seems to radiate from her. The principle that I think stands out the most is emphasis because while more emphasis is put on the model so she is the focal point, the background is also very interesting and not overshadowed by the model. Both of them complement each other with the contrasting light of the girl and the darker background. The viewer’s eyes will immediately go to the lighter section in the middle but will stray to the darker part because neither are forcefully dominating or fighting attention. The color contrast and light contrast aren’t at war with each other; rather they are more like two halves of a whole that perfectly fit each other in a way not commonly
The European Renaissance occurring from 1450 to 1650, marked a change that led to many developments in art, religion, literature and the economy. The impact of the Renaissance changed the thinking and life. The society saw a rise in creativity, in ambition and in politics. During the Renaissance (the rebirth) achievement in art especially rose, though depending on where the Renaissance was, it was a different experience all around. Renaissance art in Italy and southern Europe had more of a grecian theme, while northern Renaissance focused more on life and mythology.
The renaissance was an age of recovery from the catastrophic 14th century, a time for the slow process of recovering from the effects of the Black Death, political disorder, and the economic recession. This recovery was accompanied by a rediscovery of the Greco-Roman culture and civilization. The renaissance began in Italy. There are plenty of reasons why Italy was the main location for revival of antiquity. The first one being the plague was the first to leave Italy. Therefore, they had more time to recover and grow. Another being that Italy was the main power during the past Greco-Roman culture, especially where it flourished in Rome. The rebirth in Italy led to the revival of three characteristics; an emergence of humanist attitudes, art,
Renaissance The Renaissance started in Italy in the 14th century. It was referred to as the “rebirth” because it brought back attention to art and science. The Middle Ages were really religion-dominated. The Renaissance turned the attention to individual and worldly experiences; they were the main themes of the Renaissance art movement. Art benefited from the patronage of such influential groups as Medici family of Florence, the Sforza family of Milan and the Popes Julius II and Leo X.
The Renaissance period of history occurred during the 15th and 16th centuries. Renaissance in its basic definition means rebirth. According to Merriam Webster, renaissance formally means, “a movement or period of vigorous artistic and intellectual activity” (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary). Renaissance is the title given to the period of great change in music and art. The Renaissance period ushered in a culture of music that the public could enjoy. Most importantly it was a period that encouraged musicians and composers to create music and take risks with voices, instruments and notes.
The Renaissance was a cultural and intellectual movement that had its peak during the 15th and 16th centuries. During these times there was a heightened interest with the classical learning that was brought about in the middle ages. The renaissance first started in Italy and then eventually spread to Western Europe. During this period there was a high interest in the aesthetics of the classical world like architecture. The renaissance focused on the 17th century philosophy which came from the Greeks.
The Renaissance time period took place during the 14th and the 16th centuries it began in Europe. The Renaissance was a time of art, open ideas, and new beginnings. Before this time there was the Middle Ages. Then it was not a good time at all, it was full of sickness, disease, death, and the plague it killed almost half of Europe’s population. After the plague slowly decreased the population in Europe started to grow. Lots of new things started to happen. Like Bankers Merchants, and Tradespeople had a new market for their services. People became wealthier and had more money to spend. People began to build much bigger houses and buy more expensive clothes and people became more interested in the art and liturature. People began to learn foreign languages, they read more, played instruments, and finding more that interested them.
The renaissance was a time where people were able to exert lots of artistic and literary ideas. It all started because of the money from the Medici family and other rich patrons. These people opened up opportunities for many others. Famous works such as the statue of David and the Mona Lisa were made in this time. These works also showed us a huge change in the way that art changed through the few centuries. Da Vinci also created inventions that seemed to be centuries ahead of his time, and showed people that Italy could have been very powerful if some of these ideas were used.
The Renaissance (1300-1700) began in Italy and eventually spread to Germany, France, England, and Spain. The Renaissance is also known as the Middle Ages. To understand what the Renaissance exactly is would be to say that it was the cultural rebirth that occurred in Europe through a term called humanism. In other words, the people wanted a Christian worldview through a classical learning style. While many things helped the Renaissance become well known, the political and economic aspects of the Renaissance is what played a huge developing role in which helped it flourish into creating its environment. The economic aspects were just as important as the political aspects of the Renaissance, but it was the political aspects that had the most
The Renaissance time period started in the late 14th century and it lasted all through the 16th century. It all started in the late Middle ages throughout Italy (http://fashionhistory.net) taking at least one-hundred years before it reached the Northern Alps. This was also the period where the word “European” was put in use and understood by other places, and the word “Renascrere” originated from the Italian word “Renascrere” and it meant to be re-born. The word Renascrere fitted perfectly to this age due to the fact that many had intellectual pursuits and creative energy was re-born (www.richeast.org). The Renaissance would be best known for its artistic aspect and famous polymaths as Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo given the term “Renaissance men.” It was an effective cultural and development of perspective in painting movement spreading to the rest of Europe and the advancements in science. The movie Mona Lisa Smile is set in 1953; post-war and pre-feminism. Katherine Ann Watson, a progressive Art History teacher, is hired to teach at Wellesley. This selective all-women’s college is described in the opening scenes of the film as “the most conservative university in the country” (Newell, “Mona Lisa Smile”, 2003). Watson wants to teach at Wellesley in order to influence the next generation of women. Some of the brightest female students in the country attended Wellesley. Among these students are: Joan Brandwyn, a driven student with a 4.0 GPA, Betty Warren, the daughter of the Alumni Association president, Giselle Levy, a flirtatious and outgoing young woman who has had an affair with a Wellesley teacher (Bill Dunbar), and Connie Baker. These women are bright, and largely members of the upper class. Their social class not only affords them the Wellesley education but vacations abroad and elaborate parties and weddings.
The Renaissance was a time of change. It began in Italy during the 14th century, and spread throughout the North. People all over Europe were affected, for the better and for the worse. Some people finally had a chance to control their own fate. Others, like upper class women, lost their social status. The values and purposes of Renaissance education were to improve the society, increase the economy, and restore the religious beliefs.
The European Renaissance is thought to have originated in Florence, Italy in the 14th century, and occurred after the Black Death. The Black Death was a disease which affected all of Europe. It caused about a third of the population of Europe to die out. The survivors were devastated at the loss of their loved ones, but they found that they were better off financially and socially, making their way up the social ladder. Specifically in Italy, there was greater social mobility.
The Renaissance period started in Italy and took place between the 1400’s and the 1600’s. In French, the term Renaissance means rebirth, which is an accurate way to describe that period since it was then that many people chose to break away from the stagnation, incertitude, and extreme hardships that occurred during the Middle Ages and plagued most of Europe. The Renaissance period is noted for being a time when the population sought educational reform which increased literacy and many were able to master more than one skill set. This led to an intellectual, economic, and artistic revolution that transformed several European nations such as Italy, France, Spain, and several others. During this time, there were several developments within the Catholic Church, such as scandals and controversy. Because of that, many people were driven away from the traditions of the church and sought more freedom of expression and individualism. As economies improved, there was more wealth and a desire for self improvement which greatly influenced the arts.
Colour: colour is the main element in any piece of artwork, it is the most eye catching, the most appealing, the one thing that tells you whether or not this piece of art suits you taste or not. It simple exists because of the light surpassing in the room to create different colours. The picture to the right, well demonstrates the element of colour because the colours are bright and bold. For some, this picture might be too bright and they might be uninterested but at the same time for some, the picture could be something that they see potential in, something that grasps the audience’s attention, it well demonstrates the RBG scale, it uses various types of reds, greens, and blues; making it all that more appealing to the audience.
The cultural Renaissance is known to have began in Italy in the 14th century, however the cultural rebirth had engulfed all of Europe by the 16th century (bbc.com). The Middle Ages suffered from the Plague which wiped out roughly half of Europe’s population. As stated on bbc.com, “This mysterious disease, known as the Black Death, was one of the most devastating pandemics in human history.” It resulted in painful boils and turned limbs black from gangrene. After Europeans found a way to deal with this awful disease through quarantining the sick, people had more time to farm, to learn new subjects, to create art and to come up with new inventions (Black Death).
