In the classic football film Remember the Titans, Coach Herman Boone not only leads his team to a championship but also makes his players better people by driving them each to work harder than they ever have, and opening their eyes to new experiences, by assigning roommates that they were not comfortable with. As an athletics coach, Boone excels at bringing all his players together behind him. As he leads his players on a run to Gettysburg Cemetery, he helps them get over their differences. After the COVID-19 pandemic broke out in early 2020, I was forced into a much more prominent leadership role in my home. After spring break was extended another week due to the fear of an outbreak, we knew that something was going to drastically change in our lives, at least for a little while. As our school district figured out what they were going to do with all their students, my mom decided that she wasn’t going to wait around for someone else to figure out what her kids were going to do, so she set up a routine for my four siblings and I to follow. During this “mom school” I was put in a position that made it clear that my siblings wanted to do everything that I did. During this time of confusion and fear, I was the person that my brothers and sisters looked to for answers and to know what to do. As the weeks of being stuck at home turned into months, I continued to be there for my siblings and took them on hikes and bike rides, taught them games and sports, and guided them through this trying time. As we got used to this “new normal” I settled into his role of not only a big brother, but also a mentor and friend. We grew so much closer as siblings, in part because of my ability to bring us together and lead us through the pandemic. I guide my coworkers in my part-time job. Halfway through sophomore year, I applied to a number of fast food restaurants and was hired at Culver’s. After a few weeks of getting to know people and seeing how the restaurant leadership was organized, I decided that I wanted to be part of the leadership, and asked how I could get started. I was told if I worked hard, and not only did my job but helped others finish theirs, that I would be able to get a promotion. I put that to the test and for about six months I reached out as much as I could to new employees and others that needed help getting things done. I really worked on “leading the shift”. Eventually my managers gave me more responsibility,
