REFLECTIVE PRACTITIONER CASE STUDY
Student’s Case Study Posted in Team Doc Sharing
Overview:
Myself and four other colleagues were assigned to work on a team project at my work place. We had a deadline to present the new project to the board of directors for approval before the month of December 2015. As a work group, we had to come up with an effective and efficient team project supervisor in order to get the best results for the upcoming project. A colleague and I decided to meet at the cafeteria during lunchtime to discuss our various thoughts on selecting the best candidate for the position. Moreover, we already had a volunteer from the workgroup that would love to take the leadership position.
Strategy:
I sincerely thought that the volunteer

You really don’t want to know what I think. Colleague: Hey Bukola, What do you think about the volunteer taking up the leadership position?
I have my facts right, so you better believe me. Me: Pardon my words; I don’t think he is competent enough for that position.
Hmm…. Really? A chance you say? C’mon, this is not a video game. We cannot afford to play games with this sensitive project. Colleague 1: Why? He seems so experienced and friendly. I think it wouldn’t be a bad idea if we give him a chance to lead the workgroup
There is always an iota of truth in every rumor, even though it is a rumor. I had to defend my opinion. Me: Well, I haven’t heard anything splendid about his past leadership positions. Everybody seems to say something negative about him. I even heard he is very aggressive. (No hard feelings). I also feel he lacks the listening skill and he always act like he knows it all.
The fact that he has been here for the past four years doesn’t automatically make him a good leader please (rolls eyes) Colleague 2: I honesty disagree with you Bukola. This volunteer is well known by everybody. In fact, this is his fifth year in this
...e people of his country can characterize him as a poor leader for the electorate of his country. Although he claims to be fighting for the betterment of the nation and its stability, what can he possibly know about its condition if he fails to recognize the struggles and problems of the underclass majority of the population?
This, of course, was never proven, but people still spoke of these rumors like they were
To be a good leader you need to be brave, experienced, and hardworking. Unlike the football game life isn’t always about the final score. Leaders such as Richthofen, Rickenbacker, and Mitchell put their lives on the line for what they believed
What is a leader? According to the dictionary a leader is a "person who leads or commands a group, organization, or country." (Merriam Webster) Though that may be what the term leader is defined by, one would assume that it takes much more to be considered a "good" one. A leader, is in many cases the voice of the people, he is the one whom everyone looks to in a time of panic, the one whom the people entrust to make the hard decisions and the one whom is supposed to value his constituents wants and need. Unfortunately most leaders fall short of accomplishing the things they set out to do, "as principal chief during the 1830s John Ross faced the most critical period in Cherokee History, and somehow
...hat the Federation can definitely depend on to make the right decisions in the time of any crisis. He is a man of rationality, confidence and determination, and understanding of others who depend on him; he is a good leader. That is a fact that cannot be second guessed.

Being given the opportunity to intern with the staff at the Family Resource Center in the Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC) has been a tremendous learning experience thus far. The opportunity has truly surpassed my expectation of what I imagined the journey of internship would be like and how it would help me to evolve into the professional arena as a social worker. I see myself transforming and viewing the community in which I live, the clients served, those deprived, and the tremendous job that we as social workers are tasked with to advocate for those in need from a more open-minded perspective. By enhancing and developing my personal and professional skills, such as active listening, observation, and professional comportment, I will be
The only challenge I may have is the slow decision making process when trying to include members in the decision making process. However, the advantage is that I would work with team members to make decisions which in return should increase their productivity because they are more involved in the process. The democratic leadership is also my preferred style because I’m more of a team player versus an autocratic leader. I would not demand my followers to do any task, I prefer to motivate my followers to success.

The position statement in paper 2 has an introduction and conclusion, as well as have used a large amount of evidence in the context to demonstrate the contribution of reflective practice in the health care setting. This essay has used credible and relevant references on most occasions. Nevertheless, it is not well structured. The author does not provide a clear plan for this position statement in the introduction, the context is lack of argument, and there are new information presented in the conclusion. The author does utilise several evidences from journal articles and NMBA, and yet have insufficient consideration of alternative views. Furthermore, some sentences in the context are not coherent and logical.
The term reflection means the examination of personal thoughts and actions. For nurses this means focusing on how they interact with their colleagues and with the environment to obtain a clearer picture of their own behaviour. This means it is a process in which a nurse can better understand themselves in order to be able to build on existing strengths and take appropriate future action (Somerville, 2004). Reflection is a way to bring your own intuition along with empirical knowledge together. Reflective practice in nursing is guided by models of reflection. Reflective practice model serves as a framework within which nursing or other management professions can work. Reflective practice model is also a structural framework or learning model that serves the purposes of a profession and is particularly applicable to health related professions. Reflective practice enables practitioners to learn to value themselves as significant people with values and feelings that are important factors in giving care. Whilst reflective practice allows the nurse to recognise the value of their experiences, they may also need support to work through a difficult situation. This is where reflection aids nurses in dealing with these challenging experiences (Johns, 1995). Reflection on experience offers nurses the opportunity to reflect on caring in practice in ways that its nature can be understood, where the skills necessary for effective caring can be developed and most significantly, where the values of caring for people can be highlighted, both to the individual nurse and the world in general (Johns 1996)
In my opinion, being a good leader firstly he should be able to take full advantage of favorable circumstance, able to rule the country under a chaotic situation. Besides he made attractive promises to gain popular support, skilled in using of propaganda, amoral. Moreover he should have the organizational ability and has the ambition to make his country powerful in the world. In addition, he could use his words to twist and manipulate the minds of people into believing that what he was saying. Using this power, he could get people to do anything for him, which prove his amorality. He should be skillful in carry out successful policy to bring the country to economic prospect, since economy is very important to a country.
Democratic leadership and transformational leadership should have been used in this instance. Democratic leadership involves the opinion of the other team members, with the final decision on the leader, usually with an equal vote Kelly, P., & Tazbir, J. (2014).. Transformational leadership exhibits a true leader because of the skills of encouraging and displaying optimal communication, teamwork, and professional collaboration to help personnel deal with the healthcare industry's daily challenges and its future changes and uncertainties (Tinkham,
Put your pride aside and consult with Alexssandra, asked her if she can be the team leader for this project and that you along with Kristen and her team will work along with her. Time is of the essence here, and a project of this magnitude needs experience. Kristen has only been in this manager's position for two months and until now has not proven herself. Working alongside Alexssandra she will be able to gain more experience that will prepare her for future projects. Besides that, two of her team members mostly likely will not be able to chip in.
In general, I consider my greatest strength in the case study tutorials to be a confidence and willingness to contribute, which is certainly something I have struggled with in the past (during A levels, etc.). Having gained experience in group work and in leading a group project in my foundation year at Keele, I now find it far easier to speak up in these situations. I consider myself to generally be a very quiet person, so it has taken a lot of development to get to the point where I am able to speak out loudly and clearly. I am pleased with what I have achieved in this regard.
