The position statement in paper 2 has an introduction and conclusion, as well as have used a large amount of evidence in the context to demonstrate the contribution of reflective practice in the health care setting. This essay has used credible and relevant references on most occasions. Nevertheless, it is not well structured. The author does not provide a clear plan for this position statement in the introduction, the context is lack of argument, and there are new information presented in the conclusion. The author does utilise several evidences from journal articles and NMBA, and yet have insufficient consideration of alternative views. Furthermore, some sentences in the context are not coherent and logical.
When writing a position statement, introduction as a starting point, should presented with a clear structure in the whole essay. The author need have an argument to attract reader’s attention and state his/her opinions that “reflective practice plays an essential role in nursing practice”.

or instance, in the introduction, he/she can provide a brief overview, explains some benefits of having an efficient reflective nursing practice, makes an argument about the weakness of reflective nursing practice, and describes how nurses can overcome this negative effect
that will beneficial to nursing practice. In the body of this position statement, the author adopts some efficient evidences from literature in supporting the advantage of having an efficient reflective practice in nursing. The NMBA competency standard is one of the authoritative nursing practice guideline that regulate and educate registered nurses to improve nursing knowledge and skills, while provide patients with the best quality of care. The author reviewed NMBA competency standards 1.3, 4.1, 4.2, and 4.4, he/she believes that registered nurses aware of hazardous practice, undertake regular self-evaluation, and use some strategies to manage self-shortcoming and acquire new knowledge and skills through practice. I strongly agree with the author’s opinion, because the reflective practice can assist registered nurses recognise unprofessional practices, avoid the recurrence of dangerous practices, correct self-shortcoming by self-evaluation, and improve nursing practice through seeking help from others. Nevertheless, to make this essay more fascinating and convincing, we can dissect the weakness of reflective practice to restate this position statement. Individuals’ learning environment, motivation and time should be considered internal and external factors that cause poor reflective practice. Motivation is considered to be a significant stimulant of learning and achievement in nursing knowledge and skills, lack of motivation can result in absence of enthusiasm to pursuit goals at work (Bennett, Casebeer, Zheng & Kristofco, 2006). In a study, Hannigan (2006) examined 17 nursing students and asked them to provide reflective practice based on a case scenario. Among it, 14 participators revealed deepening understanding of practice through literature review and re-appreciating the value of nursing, nevertheless, 3 participators reported with negative outcomes. Concerns were expressed about the time required and the limiting influence of a structured approach. Hannigan (2006) thought this potentially negative outcome might include unwillingness at being required to participate in activities that seem uncorrelated from the learner’s true learning needs or usual method of learning and practice. Increasing nurses’ motivation in practice assisting registered nurses to have efficient reflective practice. Consequently, we find that internal and external factors are influence reflective practice. To make an efficient reflective practice, the registered nurses must stay motivated during the practice.
The purpose of this paper is to define, describe, and explain the thoughts, feelings and beliefs of the author in regard to the philosophy of nursing practice. This concept synthesis paper will address the personal nursing autobiography, two practice specific concepts, and a list of propositions and assumption statements that clearly connect the described concepts. Many factors influence the philosophy of nurses and their practice.
The intention of this written essay is to demonstrate an understanding of my views on reflection and the issues surrounding reflective practice. It is based on nursing skills that I used during my practice placement, most importantly reflecting on the professional value of privacy and dignity.
This assignment focuses on an incident which was experienced during a community placement. The patient suffered from bowel cancer, my mentor and I were visiting her to change her dressing. The names of people have been changed to ensure confidentiality Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC, 2008). Gibbs (1988) cited in Jasper (2013) will be used as the reflective model because it is simple and, easy to understand. Through the model’s six key stages I will describe my experience and how I maintained dignity while giving personal care to patients in the community. Throughout this philosophy paper, I have explored what nursing is based on my personal values and beliefs as it relates to the body of work in nursing. I value the importance of holistic nursing and the care of patients being individualized for them and their family. Also, effectively collaborating among health care professionals to ensure quality care for patients. Additionally, the importance of health promotion as one of the main roles of nurses is being a teacher, since promoting health prevents illness and increases the level of health in clients. These principles will serve as a guide for my personal standards of nursing practice.
Outpatient care is the setting the I have the most experience in working in. However, I was still able to learn something new during the panel. I learned about the type of patients that I expect to see in this setting mostly is back pain, shoulder pain, and knee pain. In the next 5 years I see myself working in an outpatient setting. I do not think I will like fast pace evniroment of acute care. I;m also worried about the physical demands of a SNF . Outpaitent care requires the least amount of lifting , compared to toher physical therpay settings. The slower pace evniroment of outpatient care,is the type of evironemnt I enjoy working in the most based on previous experience. The shoulder have been my favorite joint to work on in the time
This reflective essay will lay emphasis on one of the learning needs I have developed during my two week taster placement in hospital. Reflection helps an individual build upon their skills and makes room for self-criticism as he or she can contemplate upon actions and make relevant changes (Taylor, 2000). I will be applying the “What”, “So what” and “Now what” model of reflection by Driscoll (2000) in this piece of work because it is a more coherent and comprehensible approach to follow when writing a reflective account and is also an easier guide to writing reflections. The learning need I chose to reflect on from my learning plan is having a better understanding of diabetes and the 6 basic medications used in treating the condition since it is a common illness on the ward I am have been allocated on for my first placement. The timescale set for achieving this objective was by the end of my two week placement that is from 27th January to 9th February and I achieved it with the help of a host of factors. In this assignment, all the names of the patients and wards have been omitted and indicated with letters and numbers for confidentiality reasons as stated in the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) code of conduct (2008). The paper will primarily touch on the type 2 diabetes and furthermore on the achievement on my learning need.
The ability to become reflective in practice has become a necessary skill for health professionals. This is to ensure that health professionals are continuing with their daily learning and improving their practice. Reflective practice plays a big part in healthcare today and is becoming increasingly noticed.
Reflective accounts help nurses become more self-aware and develop a deeper understanding of themselves. Through reflective practice, the nurse can develop skills such as critical thinking and a greater understanding of interpersonal relationships (Sommerville, 2004). Reflective practice can increase the quality of care and promote good practice.

The case study focused on a nursing student named Jane, who described how she “absorbed her patient’s emotional trauma like a sponge” (Rees, 2012, pg. 321). Through reflective practice, Jane claimed she was able to “deal with the emotional challenges such as fear she frequently felt in practice” (Rees, 2012, pg. 321). Dr Rees findings established how reflection can help nurses manage their emotions, in order to help the individual gain strength to overcome emotions brought about by the practice of nursing. Clearly reflective practice assists a nurse in being a success throughout their
Reflection is an essential component in the development of professional competencies and critical thinking skills in nursing practice. Reflection in the context of nursing, has been described as a way of exploring an experience in order to look for the prospect of other explanations and alternative methods to doing things. It is through reflection that one can evaluate and identify their strengths and weaknesses to encourage both personal and professional growth and development. In this paper, I will be discussing how student nurses learn and develop from reflection, the emotional response and self-awareness as a nurse, and the appropriate way to reflect as a nurse.
