This assignment will describe reflective practice within a healthcare environment. A description of what reflective practice consists of, and what reflective practice involves. This will cover the different models of reflection that are used by health professions. The assignment will then look at an incident and give an account relating to consent, and will cover the emotions involved regarding the incident, and an evaluation of the good points, the bad points, what changes could be applied to the incident in question.
According to the Code: Professional Standards of Practice and Behaviour for Nurses and Midwives, hereafter referred to as the Codes (Nursing & Midwifery Council [NMC], 2015) states that patient confidentiality will be maintained, this will be adhered to throughout this assignment (Nursing and Midwifery Council, NMC, 2015). “As a nurse or midwife, you owe a duty of confidentiality to all those who are receiving care. The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC, 2015) regard reflection as an important concept and have evidence which display’s the benefits of how reflection can improve practice (Royal College of Nursing (RCN), 2017). Reflection is used to process and contemplate what has occurred, what aspects were significant or insignificant and determine an explanation (Howatson-Jones, 2011), and what is necessary to improve delivery of care if the situation was to occur again.
