As I finish this English course, there was one thing few things that stood out to me throughout the entire quarter, analysis. However, let me start with how I felt with the class overall. To me, this was a very engaging english class. I know in my last english class we had always worked in groups, this was no different, and I got to hear my peers perspectives and ideas that I either I agree with or didn’t and I thought that was interesting. It wasn’t just a typical class that dealt with readings and essays the entire time. Anyway, I want to start mentioning the things that stood out to me and how much it helped see what I could possibly try as I continue to pursue my college career.
When we started this class and we began to break down and analyze the readings we did in groups, and with the whole class, I never expected to go in depth with the discussions especially when talked and analyzed Bechdel 's memoir. The reason I mention Bechdel is because her story was very peculiar and the amount of analysis we did in class and in our

I began thinking, ‘what am I even going to write about if we did this?’ Then as soon as we began to break everything down from Wideman and the other authors the anxiety was going down less and less. Especially for this final essay that we just turned in. I honestly don’t know if I stuck to the plan I was going for despite finishing my outline and then changing it multiple times, but when I went to your office hours I felt my anxiety go away, and I produced a paper that showed my growth from my first essay till now. If we didn’t analyze anything in the class, this would have been very difficult for me since the readings still left me with many
During my first semester of college, I felt like this course overshadowed all the others. I faced many challenges, gained better habits, and even increased the value of myself as a scholar. Not only did my professor provide her students with the course material she built a confidence inside of us that will allow us to be able to tackle any task, especially pertaining to any written compositions. The things that I have learned from this course could and will be applied to any and everything I do from here on out, whether that writing an essay or even taking a test. Again, the journey was long, but I will be forever grateful for the things that I, and all of my peers have gained from this
This trimester I began the class English 101 with mixed feelings. Depending on the topic and style, I could really enjoy writing. However, there were occasionally times where I just did not feel much inspiration, and consequently, my writing quality was not exactly remarkable. My previous course to English 101 was AP Literature, where I learned how to analyze writing and write powerful papers. Although, to my disadvantage for this class, the teacher was more concerned about content than presentation and grammar technicalities. I learned to create good ideas and responses, and while I did possess the ability to convey them with proficiency, I could not express myself at a college level. Nonetheless, I can happily report that I have acquired these skills throughout English 101, learning to curb my near addiction to prepositional phrases, in addition to halting my use of coordinating conjunctions to begin sentences. I find it pleasing to read and compare my first essay to my latest one, seeing all of the differences and enhancements. My writing has improved through the trials of in-depth analyses and short deadlines, enabling me to perform my best no matter the style or topic. Overcoming the oppositions found in the class and my own
When I first entered this class, I already knew that it wasn’t going to be easy just because I 'm not good with putting things into words and explaining myself with proper grammar. I can honestly say English 101 has really inspired me to be a better writer. This class affected me in a lot of ways it showed me that writing takes time and you can 't expect a paper to be great without any revising or editing. That has always been a mistake of mine, I would tend to free write a lot it seemed to be the only way I could get my thoughts processed on a paper. I would forget periods, commas and misspell words without even noticing. I never cared much for punctuation, but once I got into this class I knew it was much needed. The topics we wrote on were not just any random topics which in a way made it more interesting to write about things that are actually important and things our generation should be informed about.
When going through life learning is an everyday occurrence as each day is constantly filled with information that is used throughout the course of your life. Each day we get stronger and stronger in whatever we decide to put our minds to, weather that be academics, sports, our jobs we are constantly learning and growing on a daily basis. This semester I have grown in English as I personally felt that through the English 102 course I have been able to grasp some key concepts and writing techniques that will better me for the future. In this class there was a list of goals and outcomes that the instructor felt would be achievable and the best way to learn throughout the course. In each goal throughout this process I feel like I have improved to some degree but there is other things that I do need to touch up on a bit more to further my writing education outside the classroom.
While in English 111 we completed an annotated bibliography, about 5 or so quizzes, a group project, and three different types of papers. It is my hope that while you are reading this letter, you will gain an understanding of the work I have completed in my English 111 class. Below I discuss the three different papers and classwork assignments I completed in my English 111 at Germanna Community College.
Everyone knows what it 's like to feel anxious, the butterflies in your stomach before a first date, the pressure you feel when your whole school depend on you to win the championship game, and the way your heart pounds in case you are in peril. Anxiety rouses you to action. It gears you up to confront an undermining circumstance. It makes you concentrate harder for a final exam, and it keeps you on your toes when you are making a discourse. As a rule, it helps you adapt. In any case, in the event that you have a anxiety issue, this typically supportive feeling can do the exact inverse, it can keep you from adapting and can disturb your every day life. Contingent, upon how you decipher this inclination, however,
I thought I would not get much out of this class. I had the mindset that I would just be writing more boring analytical essays like I did in high school. I came to like English more than I did when I came in because I realized that writing was one of the most important skills a person could have in their professional career. One of my favorite lines I thought I wrote this semester came from my reflective narrative, “CRASH! There goes the antique vase on my family’s mahogany table as it hurls down onto the floor, breaking into millions of pieces as my parents purposefully whacked it off the table. My sister and I were trembling and sitting paralyzed in fear as we watched intensively while my mother and father argued in Vietnamese for another time. The battle between their words against each other felt like fire arrows landing on us and burning the very foundation of what I have relied on.” I really loved theses lines because the scene opens up with a strong visual action going on. It showed the intensity of the situation and it was the start off point for my voice. It also allowed me to have fun and be creative with my word choice and my perspective on the essay. Through this class,I would definitely consider taking more English and Humanities courses if I had more room in my schedule. Thanks for a great
Before I came to English 101 I was more of a raw writer than most people. Although I would write my papers filled with great content, I would also have many problems with my grammer and organization. Throughout my time in this class I have developed and trained multiple areas of my writing. Some of the areas that I have improved the most have been grammer, organization, and MLA format. These areas have lead to an evolution in my writing that has given me a new level of understanding in English. Which has provided me with the skills that will endow me to achieve success in english 102.
Throughout this fall semester, I have learned many things. Before this class, I have never had to buckle down and plan out my writing so tediously. The many outlines, rough drafts, and final drafts have crafted me into a much better writer than I would have ever expected to become. While I have always considered English as one of my strong subjects, through this class I have learned that English has many more components than I originally thought. One of the most substantial of these components is a transitional sentence and through this class and the writing practice it has brought me, I have learned how to properly write them.
This class has been significantly more difficult than any other English class I have taken all throughout high school. This semester, I have been introduced to different styles of writing that I have never been exposed to before. This class has been stressful, but also fun. With using all of the resources I have been given throughout the semester, I have been able to do my best to further my writing abilities and hopefully only continue to grow them as I finish my later years in college. Throughout this essay, I will discuss my failures, my successes, my overall performance in the class, and my skill development skills.
This class has helped me realize my strengths and weaknesses in literature. This has allowed me to grow and realize that I am a work in progress. I am confident that by the end of this class my big issues in writing will be improved. Each assignment in this class is helping grow and is making me into the writer I know I can be.
I have learned so much from this class, mainly that if you speak up after not speaking for most of the class people stare at you, a lot. Actually what I really learned was how to take criticism, not to heart and learned to use most of it in my papers. Also very near the end if I chose to speak up nobody would judge me, so even if it was just a bit I tried to comment. On to the writing, I realized is that I have learned a lot and have much more to learn. There are things that during my writing process didn’t cross my mind, now I find myself double checking for too many ‘I’ statements, ignore the ones throughout, and also to consider a different approach on things.
At the start of this class, I made a goal to develop my writing skills to better prepare me for other courses for my degree. I knew English 106 would be different compared to any other English or college courses that I have taken. I knew English 106 environment will let me grow in diverse writing dimensions. My long serving years of experience in the military has exposed me to many cultures around the globe. In just seven weeks of the course, I have seen some improvement in my writing. This course has afforded me with several techniques that have made writing not only a little bit easier but also more in-depth resulting in a higher level of academic writing versus my normal military style writing. Now I understand the writing process and
Dear Committee members, Taking English 22 this semester has been a big impact for me as a writer. When I first started I had no clue how to write a strong essay. Throughout the course I managed to learn different sets of skills in order to become a more confident and powerful writer. Honestly writing was never a passion of mine but I learned that writing can be very important because writing is used in everyday life.
Before entering this class, I thought I was prepared for college English. I had incredibly capable high school English teachers, who taught me detailed mechanics, creative writing style, and of course, the necessity of practicing good grammar. On entering this class, I quickly realized how little I had actually learned in my high school English classes. While most of my high school English essays I wrote were based on literature, the majority of the essays I wrote in this class have been more experiential and centered on real-life issues. I expected to be writing essays on books I read and articles I analyzed, but that was not the case. This class showed me in a variety of ways that things are often very different than they seem originally
