During this course I learned a lot about myself as a writer. I learned that I can write tremendously well if I put my mind to it. When we received writing assignments from the professor, I would not be interested in doing it so I would procrastinate most of the time. But when I actually took my time to perfect an essay, I did well. I really did not know that I had that sort of knowledge in me. Pushing myself to greatness got me to where I am academically at the moment. In my essays, I noticed that I use “I” a lot. When writing a argumentative essay, I don't argue my opinion. I was told that I give more information on the topic than evidence backing up my claim. I know that I am an outstanding writer because I have a proper selection in grammar.

The class also offered how to write the base foundation of any paper, which is significant to become a great writer as well as to write a flawless paper. Also, the group activities allowed us to get closer with our classmates. However, I feel like some of the activities we did were mediocre and ordinary. But it is hard to tell what experience each student received from their high school. Some knew more than others, and I was just more grateful with the education I obtained from high school. I was also not fond of buying the books for the class, when it was not a necessity for class. We did not put much use into the books, and they were relatively expensive. I do recommend the class, especially to incoming freshman. It is a great foundation for legitimate college writing classes. I enjoyed learning from you Mrs. Penwell.

During my first semester of college, I felt like this course overshadowed all the others. I faced many challenges, gained better habits, and even increased the value of myself as a scholar. Not only did my professor provide her students with the course material she built a confidence inside of us that will allow us to be able to tackle any task, especially pertaining to any written compositions. The things that I have learned from this course could and will be applied to any and everything I do from here on out, whether that writing an essay or even taking a test. This class was far more intense than what I expected but I was able to make it through the semester. I learned a lot from this class that I will carry into the future and use in other classes. All of the revision and feedback I have received during the time in the class helped me in the end. I feel like I am gradually becoming a better writer. I will take everything that I have learned in this class and use it for future reference when writing papers. I overall have enjoyed this class this semester.
For me, being a college writer means writing well-organized essays that readers enjoy reading. Being a well rounded writer was also important. Each unit in this class challenged me to write in a well-organized, concise way. During each unit, we conducted some sort of revision activity where I was exposed to other students’ writing. As I read their work, I picked up on their use of transition words and separation of paragraphs to make the essay flow. Naturally, I began implementing more transition words in my own work and learned the appropriate ways to split paragraphs. The structure of the class was key to the organization of my ideas which was crucial to the development of my essay. During the third unit of this class, we were asked to identify an issue on campus, conduct research on the issue, and finally propose a solution to correct the issue. At first, it was difficult to get my ideas down and figure out what it was I would research. What I learned in class allowed me to first identify the issue I would research, write a rough draft, and hear what others had written before the final paper was due. This helped me to identify the main points, brainstorm and figure out what additional research I would need to find to support my argument. Being able to organize my thoughts from the beginning made writing the paper a much easier process. This course has helped me to grow as a writer and make
In this class, I learned how to use the MLA format correctly in my essays, and how to use tone in my essays to persuade my audience. This class taught me how to comprehend speeches by politicians and to know what they are talking about when they say certain things. I got to read persuasive essays to learn the different ways they can persuade me and what approaches the author took by nothing that. Another thing I learned in this class was how to identify and use logos, pathos, and ethos in essays.
Before I started this class I never knew what sociology was. I thought I knew, but I actually didn’t. I thought it was some boring study about the society that we live in, but I was proven wrong by this course. Through many different concepts taught I have been able to understand what sociology really is, and how to apply it to my daily life. There were many topics that we talked about in class that I can apply to my life be it school, work, home. Some of the many topics we talked about that really spoke to me were sexuality, race, and gender.
Writing essays was never my forte, it just never came easy to me like it would to others. Since other subjects came easy to me and I had to focus more than others on writing, I had a negative attitude toward the process as a whole. During this summer semester, I was able to grow as a writer, and gain a more positive attitude toward how I write and a better feel for writing in college. Writing a paper is a process in which there are many different stages. In high school I would never write outlines or any sort of pre planning work. Other struggles I encountered in my writing were my theses, and framing quotes.
Initial Reflective Essay When I first thought of what I wanted to do with my life after college, the first thing I thought of was helping people. The next step in deciding what I wanted to do with my life was to examine how I could accomplish this goal. I started pondering and I was thinking about how much I love to take care of my body. Health care and personal hygiene has always been an important factor in my life. So I decided to major in Health Sciences.
This I find to be a great accomplishment, because the out of class work load has been insane! Two or three hours everyday was dedicated to homework just for this class alone. I 'm still not quite sure how I managed, but the ride is almost complete. I also think I have done well with note taking. My notes have become more organized and structured so that when I look back on them I am able to easy recall what was said or understand what I was thinking during the time. I have also learned how to write decent essays within a short period of time. My essays are typically of average quality compared to the people in this class, however, compared to the average person outside of this room, my essays are fairly good. Besides these technical improvements, this class has helped me in my personal life. It has brought questions into my life about whom I am as a person, society, government, religion, spirituality, and so much more. Over the course of this semester I learned a lot about myself as a writer. This English 101 class has really allowed me to expand my essay structure and ways of thinking. This was my first college writing course and it has given me much more freedom when writing because in high school I felt limited and like what we were writing was not very important. In high school I would write essays to just to fulfill the required word or page count and to a degree I still feel like this but maybe that is why I am an engineering major but in this course I actually was able to express my ideas and for the first time really test the limits of my writing capabilities. I really enjoyed being able to incorporate my voice more in my essays and I believe that I developed my own personal style a bit from this. At the beginning of the semester my writing was quite choppy and there was plenty of room for improvement in the overall flow of my essays. Now, I use several different tactics such as outlining to create better connections between paragraphs. I believe I was able to move beyond many of the high school ways of writing and make general improvements to my essays.
This course has provided me with useful ideas that were practical that I have used in my everyday life. For example, it helped to think critically before reacting to a decision that involved problem-solving and solution - oriented. I am more a fair-minded person and learned that every person is in control of his or her life. Thus, knowing how to use critical thinking as a writer, would help me to become a writer.
I learn new things about writing in this course. The things that were earlier not very important to me turned out to be crucial in the process of writing. For example, I was not very alert towards the use of good vocabulary but this course made me think about
I feel as though this class has helped me become a more polished and professional writer. When I first entered English 110, I was extremely unsure and lacked confidence in my writing. I believe that this point can be partly attributed to the fact that I always had my instructors holding my hand and helping me through the writing process in high school. My senior English teacher always reminded us that college would be much more challenging than her class was, and then she would go on to tell us stories of professors who gave out zeros for tiny oversights within a paper. This, combined with general apprehension about college life, left me terrified.
During this College Composition course, I came across numerous obstacles and educational involvements. Every factor of this course contributed to my overall learning experience. For starters, we often read out of our textbooks, “The Little Seagull Handbook” and “They Say I Say”. These books helped showcase proper writing techniques. In addition, we would have class discussions that everyone would participate in. This opened my eyes to different viewpoints that could influence my writing. I recall one class we had a debate over a topic and everyone had to choose a side to argue. Then when we wrote argument essays, even though they were on a different topic, it helped me view my topic in different ways. Lastly, the most helpful to my writing was peer review. We were told to read our paper out loud to our partner. Although personally I am quiet and dislike reading out loud, I found this very helpful. Instantly, my partner and I could find grammar mistakes that one may not pick up on while reading silently. Then we could also talk about other possible revisions for my paper. For every paper, we would have conferences with the professor. This was effective as well to have a professional giving corrections and ideas. When we would get back our graded rubrics on the assignments we completed, the instructor would leave comments to
