This course has helped me a lot in developing my writing skills. I have learnt to improve the content and formation of the sentences. The growth is comprised of many other elements that make my writing better. I have become much more confident in writing essays and composing responses towards different topics. This growth came from a lot of practice and the techniques that were taught to me during the course. There are several aspects of this improvement that I would like to mention. I learn new things about writing in this course. The things that were earlier not very important to me turned out to be crucial in the process of writing. For example, I was not very alert towards the use of good vocabulary but this course made me think about …show more content…
However, my best work in terms of writing so far is the essay I wrote upon the topic ‘How to Live’. This was a very different topic as it did not have any technical base to support the facts. There were no scientific evidences to support the research. It was more like a self-reflection essay in which one had to analyze their point of view about life. One can write a lot of things about how to live and it is a vast topic. The challenge of shaping the thoughts into words made this my best work so …show more content…
My writing used to contain many errors. I was not good in spellings and vocabulary. I could study a lot but I did not find myself confident in paraphrasing the sentences properly and thus there used to be many technical issues in my papers. During this course I was guided throughout by my mentors and peers which helped me develop the skill of writing. I learnt slowly because it took me a lot of time in understanding the technical aspects of writing and following a certain format but I am now a confident academic writer and I still aspire to grow in terms of writing
The course pushed me to find my inner creativity and express myself in my writings. Each day I was assigned a journal topic that I had the
As a student, I have learned many different skills that I will take with me throughout my journey from this course. We have traversed many different types of writing styles, which any college student, or any person for that
Without doubt besides to know how to write a sentence, it is vital to know the parts of an essay. In this course I had the opportunity to go through different types of essays that helped me to understand how an introduction, thesis, body paragraphs, and conclusion work. Also, how these parts are connected together and make a different function depending of what type of essay I am writing for example, argumentation, narration, process, or any other. Although, I cannot say I became a professional writer after have learned this points, I can say, I became a better one.
Throughout this course, we had multiple assignments that were aimed at improving us as writers. I am sure that everyone took something different from this course, and I am sure that each student took more from some areas than others; however for me there were three major things that I saw that I benefited from most. Our weekly craft lessons, grammar plan, but most of all, observational learning. Our weekly craft lessons have introduced us to multiple writing strategies. These strategies have helped turn my papers from elementary papers that were written below my expected grade level to papers more on par with my peers.
The biggest improvement I have made in this course would be my passion to write again. Prior to this class, writing was a hobby that I would do as a last resort. I was intrigued with it, however, it was not passion. For years I believed my writing was not good enough because I could not properly express my thought process in a manor of which others could comprehend; I believed my writing was very weak. In the beginning of this class, the reason I was late for many papers is because I did not want to hand an assignment that demonstrate my lack of writing abilities. However, as the class progressed and I continued to complete the assignments, the more confident I became in my writing. Moreover, the way I have grown as a writer is becoming more confident within the words I wrote.
Throughout the semester i only learned few new things but i did improve and solidify my skill of writing. Before my first year of college my skills have always undermined by other high school english teachers and with that came disappointing grades. I am writing this paper as a reflection of the semester and the progress i have made as a writer. I now understand many things that my high school teachers have done a poor job demonstrating and i am grateful that i decided to take my own route in my education instead of their syllabus. I entered the semester with anxiety that i would perform as i did before but i clearly outdid my own expectations by receiving top grades on my essays.
In this course, I have acquired skills that have helped me improve my writing. For example, doing the rhetorical analysis and logical fallacies in class. The rhetorical analysis have helped my writing because I can identify the writing strategies and purpose of what the author is acknowledging his/her audience. The logical fallacies have helped me reason the valid or invalid in an argument. Additional, I can identify the logical fallacies in a writing. In class, we also discussed about the sentence core and the workshops. The sentence core exercise has made an impact in my writing, because my sentences were extremely long therefore, I am still working on minimizing my sentences and making them short and clear. The workshops are helpful to me
As an incoming freshman in an enrolled in a writing course, but still in high school, I believe there are many aspects for me to learn from this course. Learning to become a better writer, achieving higher quality, and improvement of a great flow is what I want to achieve from this class in my future writing career. Being a high school student, I acknowledge that I am filled with more weaknesses rather than strength, but the knowledge that I had been educated for this class is pretty impressive as well. In addition the classes previous to this class set me up to a better fundamental to succeeded in this class and were emphasized the power of writing in my future career as well.
I improved on many aspects of my writing throughout the duration of this class, but there are still some things I need to refine. Over the course my writing skills have gotten better due to the instructor’s feedback, peer reviews, and just me learning. I enjoyed peer reviews because sometimes it is easier to relate to someone my own age. The overall structure and flow of my essays have improved, as well as the use of word choice and quotations. Throughout this course, I was able to apply critical thinking and reading skills to different texts, compose essays with appropriate content development and organization, use correct style by practicing the steps of the writing process, and reflect on my own development as a writer. However, I still need to work on demonstrating correctness, including punctuation, mechanics, and
Throughout this semester I have learned many ways of writing through two main essays literacy narrative and comparison and contrast. These two essays have taught me how to correctly fix my comma splices, thesis statements, and capitalization. I have engaged in numerous learning material during this summer class. Many times when I thought it would be hard to work on those three developments I never gave up. I gain more positive feedback from my teacher because he pointed out most of my mistakes I made on both literacy narrative and comparison and contrast essays to help me understand what is it that I need to work on. My development as a writer became stronger.
This course has provided me with useful ideas that were practical that I have used in my everyday life. For example, it helped to think critically before reacting to a decision that involved problem-solving and solution - oriented. I am more a fair-minded person and learned that every person is in control of his or her life. Thus, knowing how to use critical thinking as a writer, would help me to become a writer.
When I began this AP course, I thought that I knew quite a bit about writing. However, as it progressed, it soon became clear that I knew far less than what I had thought I did. This course has shown me how to take my personal skills, and adapt them to fit each type of writing. It has also taught me how to take my personal situations and form them into different styles of writing. For example, when we worked on our rhetorical analysis essays in class it was easier to learn the lesson simply because of how I was able to implement my ideas into the essay itself.
This class has helped me realize my strengths and weaknesses in literature. This has allowed me to grow and realize that I am a work in progress. I am confident that by the end of this class my big issues in writing will be improved. Each assignment in this class is helping grow and is making me into the writer I know I can be.
Emotions Self-Reflection Journal Emotion facilitates human survival through evolution and serves as an adaptation in both intrapersonal and interpersonal aspects. For instance, emotions not only allow people to self-regulate their thoughts and behaviors in the face of challenges, but they also provide opportunities to share feelings and foster relationships with others (Shiota & Kalat, 2012). In my self-reflection journal, I would like to share my emotions, particularly anxiety, grief, and hope, relating to my past experiences. These experiences triggered strong emotional responses which tapped into my inner feelings. Basically, emotions comprise physical arousal, emotional expression and cognitive processes (Ciccarelli & White, 2012).
Before taking English 1A, I was a discouraged writer because as an English learner, I did not believe that I had any ability to be an acceptable writer. Therefore, I did not have any joy while I was doing writing assignments. However, I have gradually loved writing through this semester. I fortunately got plenty of helps from my classmates and professor; thus, my writing skills have gotten improved a lot. I currently can feel that writing is a quite enjoyable process, and I like delivering my ideas to other people by writing, too. I am really proud that I have enhanced my pre-writing skills, writing structure and revising skills and have learned how to write an effective thesis statement and how to deal with rhetorical analysis. However, I still have lots of deficiencies in my articles, such as grammar problem and the lack of logical transition.
