During my first semester in college, I learned about time management, budgeting, study skills, and essay/writing. Time management has given me the advantage to plan my work ahead of time and use my time however and whenever I want. As students, we do not have our parents or guardians to let us know about arriving to class or going to work. We must be independent and take full responsibility of our actions. We have to make the time on our own by becoming organized and improving our punctuality. Ever since I have been here, I became organized and punctual. I take the time to clean and organize my room. The idea may seem dull, but I like cleaning. I also organize clothes, food, and personal products. My punctuality has improved as well. I arrive …show more content…
Scholarships can cover some students, but others, such as myself, must find ways to manage our money. Budgeting is a great way of purchasing items at a low price. If I want to purchase a good, I always choose a product at a cheaper price. The product does not have to be a name-brand because it can have the same effects. Another strategy is to check both the capacity and price of the product. If the product has a high price and a low capacity, compare it to the same product. The product that has a low price and a high capacity would be a popular choice. For example, a box of Gushers is $2.50 and has six packs and a box of healthier gummies is $1.25 and has ten packs in it. Gushers are unhealthy, but are delicious. If one was to choose wisely, the healthy gummies are a popular choice because of the low price and high capacity. The shopper would buy two boxes of these gummies because the price would equal that of the Gushers. When it comes to purchasing a product, I budget myself quite …show more content…
I study in my speech class by practicing my speech and organizing my ideas. I take notes and highlight my main points in my computer information systems (CIS) course. I like to make up math problems and develop different ways of solving problems for my math course. Freshmen Seminar has taught me about VARK and I noticed that I acquire all four. I am visual, auditory, reading, and a kinesthetic learner. I learn visually by labeling, highlighting, and using PowerPoint. Including images and charts is my specialty. I thought I was not an auditory learner, but I am. I can listen to music, and I can apply that music by playing it on my clarinet. I call it “Improvising the Hidden Piece.” I can skim through redundant paragraphs and search for the paragraph that provides a main purpose. Paragraphs can repeat the same information over and over again and does not seem to hold a helpful source. Kinesthetic learning applies to coordination with the body, such as dancing or exercising. When I first entered marching band, I learned to play and march with my clarinet. Marching was exhausting, but performing on our instruments was the
Just as they are standing face-to-face with each other, I am standing face-to-face with procrastination. I encounter difficulty managing my time with just about everything I do; I always wait too long. Throughout high school I was never in a hurry to get any of my work done. The work was easy to me, so if I waited until the last minute to do anything, it wasn’t hard for me to finish. I could always take my time to get everything done and still get a good grade in high school. Even if the work was harder and took me a little extra time, my teachers were all very lenient and accepted late work. My high school was very easy and allowed me to get into the bad habit of procrastinating.
Scheduling and planning are necessary to be successful as a working student. Setting time aside for school assignments is a priority, but it is also important to build in personal time for you, your family, and friends (Blais & Hayes, 2011). S...
I write this clear and concise reflection to identify and evaluate an academic problem that I feel is negatively impacting my studies which is time management; otherwise, I find lot of difficulty to manage my time.
On any given day, my time regardless of how planned it is by making lists can be thrown off track due to usually a sick child/pet. No matter how hard I try, I know my kids will get sick and they will expect me to take care of. Since I cannot usually control when that will happen, it’s important that I take advantage of what I can control, such looking ahead at assignments that will need my attention to plan adequate time to complete assignments a head of time, instead of waiting till the last minute. When I know what to expect I can make plans. Another
In the workplace, time management is an important factor in everyone’s day-to-day work. If a person’s time is well managed, it is possible to achieve a greater amount in a shorter space of time. How effectively people manage their time has a major influence on aspects of their working lives and their personal lives. Effective time management can have a hugely positive effect on a person, it can lead to a focused and disciplined mentality, giving a higher level of productivity, greater efficiency and an all round positive attitude in life. This benefits the individual, their team, the company they work for and also their friends and family. An example of this is an employee who prioritises their jobs at the start of the day; this gives them a structured day and ensures they have time to complete all of the important jobs. However, if time is poorly managed it can lead to inefficiencies, work overload and added pressure, this could eventually lead on to other issues such as stress.
In his major work (Hofstede 1991) Gert Hofstede introduces 5 dimensions of culture, one of them dealing with time measurement. He uses the concept of time orientation in terms of long term vs. short term. In long term oriented cultures future rewards play a major role and with this status in relationships, persistence, thrift, having a sense of shame. On the opposite in short term oriented cultures past and present are important, therefore values like tradition, keeping face, stability and steadiness are favoured.

Keeps you organised: Order is needed to effectively manage time. Knowing what and how to prioritise certain things makes a difference otherwise things can easily spiral out of control and the essence of time management is lost.
As you can see, I entered college an unprepared, semi goal driven individual with not so great time management skills. My college experience provoked a metamorphosis over the course of the last two years that has made a sizable difference in the way I handle tasks. I am no longer the person that shows up unprepared, unorganized with only the will to succeed. I now show up ready to go, fully organized with an iron willed drive to be the best. While college has incited my goal driven attributes, it has also inspired me to considerably improve my organization and time management skills.
What do we know about time management? As adults we should know a lot about time management. We all strive to become the best that we can be. This alone should encourage us to learn about time management. Every aspect of our lives depends on it. If we try to plan, organize, and execute our ideas most of the time we can manage it well, but when we go the other route, and jump out there feet first, most of the time we do not do as well. This is not the case in every light, but usually it is the norm. Even as we sit in class trying to better ourselves by improving on our education, we learn that we must manage time to the best of our abilities. This is not done only for school, but for our families for those of us that have children and spouses. A lot of the time, we manage to get everything done and leave ourselves out in the cold when it comes to making time for ourselves. If it is not our job or school we are trying to meet someone else's needs.
Time management is one of the most crucial factors to college success for every student in college. Firstly, while living on campus, time usually isn’t an issue to students because they live on school grounds. There are many advantages that come with time and one of them is getting to class on time. However, this is actually the opposite for commuters because getting to class on time is quite a struggle. They have to struggle to wake up earlier than usual in order to use the public transportation. Students living on campus also have more access to on-site facilities because they don’t have to worry about going home so there is no time limit on how long they occupy these areas. An example is staying in the library because this is where you can get help from tutors on subjects you are struggling with. Also, they can use the writing center for as long as it is open without worrying about time. In contrast, commuters are limited to the use of these facilities because they have to take time into consideration while staying at the library or work...
(Claessens, Brigitte J.C.2004). adds that time “cannot be managed, because time is an invariable factor. Only the way a person deals with time can be”. Nevertheless, time management has become increasingly essential to businesses and organizations. This is especially true over the last two decades, as a result of expanding global competition and increased demands for the immediate availability of products and services. Given the increased pace of everyday life, people increasingly need to be more organized. Efficient time management practices support business students in acquiring key skills that will assist them both in their educatio...
My professional development topic was time management. Ironically, I missed the first professional development assignment. Due to poor time management skills, I did not get the assignment turned in before midnight when it was due. The last 2 semesters at Ivy Tech, spring and summer 2016, I have had poor time management skills. Procrastination is a thing I have always struggled with, and something I want to work on.
When you control your time, and work more efficiently, you're able to learn more and increase your experience faster. Time management should also include more than teaching, scholarship, and service. Effective time management also means reserving time for recovery, and time for financial factors, time for family, and time for friends. Having a goal-oriented strategy that makes an effective use of your time will bring you success no matter how you look at it. There isn’t anything we can do about time itself. We can change how we deal with events
PMBOK guide defines TM as the “Use of available time and your own productivity along with the appropriate planning and management of the project schedule” highlighting the link between Time Management and productivity and its closely knit relationship to scope and cost areas. Max Wideman presents a wider definition for TM as the “function required to maintain appropriate allocation of time to the overall conduct of the project through the successive stages of its natural life-cycle, by means of the processes of time planning, time estimating, time scheduling, and schedule control.” Ultimately at it’s core however, TM is about time, its planning and control during all stages of the project. A further look into Wideman’s definition of TM by means of identifying its importance throughout the entire project life-cycle (Initiation, planning, execution, controlling and close-out) is required. It is hoped that by analysing how TM tools and techniques can positively and negatively effect the different stages of the Project life cycle a better understanding of productivity, TM and project success will result.
