My understanding of kinesiology prior to enrolling in the course, is that I knew kinesiology is the scientific study of human movement , and that it involved sports and exercise and physical activity.I 'm interested in kinesiology , because I love anything that has to do with sports, and to get more of a detailed report on how human movement plays such a big role in the sports world.I have played sports for most of my life my interests our football, basketball, baseball.I started football my eighth grade year, and continued to play threw high school, until I tore my meniscus and mcl so I skipped my junior year of football , and came back my senior year had a really great season started at right offensive tackle.Missing my junior year in football really took a toll on me ,I could have gained so much more experience playing if so. My knee injury took a big toll on my preseason of my sophomore year going threw physical therapy instead of playing in the games . Exercise science possess many traits that attracted my attention whether it dealt with the different job opportunities or the ability to help an individual. There are two areas of exercise science that one can choose as a possible career path or as a major minoring in something else related to this type of work. One of the areas of study includes exercise physiology which can be defined by “the study of how the body’s structures and functions are changed as a result of acute and chronic bouts of exercise”. Not only does exercise physiology promote a healthy lifestyle, but it is closely connected to human performance, fitness, development/aging, and prevention/rehabilitation from disease or injury. Pursuing a degree in exercise physiology allows an individual in this profession to choose between several careers including physical education, exercise science and athletic training (Fisher, 2). In addition, becoming a chiropractor can be achieved through exercise science.
In 1973, Dr. Kenso Kase created Kinesiology Tape (KT-Tape) in order to reduce physiology effects such as pain, joint misalignment, and to further support the range of motion in muscles (Kase et al., 1998). Since then the fields of physical and alternative therapy have been using it to complement their patient’s exercise programs. This form of treatment has been found promising for sport injuries and musculoskeletal disorders, but also as treatment for side effects of cancer (Smykla, 2013).
Kinesiology can be defined as the study of mechanics of body movements, so I think that is very important to know the meaning of movement when studying kinesiology. Everything in kinesiology has to do with the movement. Every action the body takes is a movement which is what kinesiology is. You cannot be successful in the field of kinesiology no matter what you are doing if you do not understand what movement is. It is the study of human movement, performance, and function by applying the sciences of biomechanics, anatomy, physiology, and neuroscience. It looks at movement and which muscles are involved to create movement relating to strength exercising and sports technique. Movement is an act of changing physical location or position or of
A course in the sociology of sport and physical activity should be part of an undergraduate curriculum in a kinesiology program because social issues that impact sports and athletes are often overlooked within kinesiology program despite playing an important role within sports. Kinesiology programs tend to focus on the impact of sport and importance of sport and physical activity and could use the insight that sociology of sport and physical activity can provide. The more we know about the social issues around sport and physical activity, and how to limit them, the more we can understand sport and how to improve it and the equality within it.
As soon as I started high school, my goal was to play college baseball. I played baseball for a very competitive select club that traveled out of town every week from Thursday through Sun as well as practicing every Tuesday and Wednesday. All through high school, I sacrificed my free time in the summer to prepare myself for college baseball. After receiving offers from four year universities as well as junior colleges, I decided that a junior college would provide me the best opportunity to continue to develop as a player. Even though I decided I wanted to play at a junior college, I wanted the experience of going away to college and living in a dorm so I decided to attend a junior college in Iowa where they had dorms for student athletes. Being ecstatic to be able to go off to college and play baseball was short lived. During the first month of baseball practice, I injured my arm, spent two months in physical therapy with no improvement, and then finally receiving the bad news that I would need surgery to improve. Surgery was performed over Thanksgiving break, but I was now faced with months of physical therapy, which meant
The purpose of this paper is to gather all the strategies needed to be the best I can be in the future, as a professional. I will express all of my personal goals that I will strive to achieve during college. This paper will serve as a road map to my career path, and will help me better understand the job market. Currently my major is in the college of Kinesiology. The reason I have chosen kinesiology is because I am fascinated with the human body, and learning how to take care of it while it is in motion. This assignment calls for me to explore my options in this degree field by taking a career and personality assessment. Then, I will decide on a career, and major choice that interests me most. At this moment I will put forth all of my effort to obtain a degree from Sam Houston State University, and move onto becoming what employers are looking for. The research for this assignment will be coming from the Newton Gresham Library, Writing Center, Career Services, Internet, and O’Net
Physical therapy and kinesiology work in a close relationship to each other. Essentially one may think they are one in the same, however there are small differences between the two that provide different results when applied singularly. As a combined effort physical therapy and kinesiology work to heal the muscles and joints of the body, recreating movements perfectly as they were before injury or in some cases as closely as one can get to a perfect function. First one must understand where the lone is drawn between the two fields and how they balance each other to create desirable results in a patient.
The Squat is a natural movement humans have done since they existed. If you pay attention you’ll notice people all over the world Squat, often unconsciously. Quick examples… Babies routinely play while sitting in a Squat position, and will Squat to stand up. Asian people often
Growing up, I have always had a passion for baseball. To me, it is much more than just a sport. There have been times when it has acted as an escape from many problems in my life, as I feel that when I am on the diamond, nothing can hurt me. I am aware that many people feel this way about the sport they love, but sadly their careers often come to an abrupt end due to injury. I have a personal connection to this experience. The summer before my fourth grade year I was attending a basketball camp at Davidson College, when in the final seconds of a scrimmage game, my ankle was kicked out from under me. I immediately fell to the ground in pain as my ankle rolled over on itself. Coaches aided me in limping off of the court and to the training room
I chose Exercise Science as my major because I want to pursue a career in Physical Therapy. I have been through physical therapy throughout my entire life and it has always interested me and caught my attention. Most recently, was in 2015 after I needed surgery on my knee to repair a torn meniscus. The surgeon had to completely repair my meniscus because it was not just torn it had twisted and folded over on itself. I had to go through longer physical therapy than normal because this was not just a simple tear in the tissue. I will be getting another surgery on my knee in the near future so I will need to go through more physical therapy after that. It is better to have someone that has had those experiences and has seen things from the patient’s point of view so that they know how their patient is feeling going through therapy. I know I would rather have a physical therapist that knows what receiving the treatment is like and has gone through physical therapy before, rather than someone who has never received therapy and does not necessarily know what being a patient going through physical therapy feels like. I originally thought about majoring in athletic training to stay within more of an athletics type of atmosphere but exercise science will give me
The musculoskeletal system is comprised of bones, joints, cartilage, tendons, ligaments, fascia and muscles. Together these body parts work to establish a framework that is the musculoskeletal system. This framework is what gives the body its shape, form, and figure. It stabilizes the body as well as supplies the structural support. The musculoskeletal body features not only provide a framework for your body but allows your ability to create movement. These movements are monitored by the musculoskeletal components which then determine your degree of flexibility. Overall the amount of energy your body uses comes almost entirely from these musculoskeletal functions. Which makes sense because it
Before I committed over four years of my life to athletic training, I wanted to make that athletic training was the career path for me. To do so I took an anatomy class in the 2014-2015 school year and I am currently taking an athletic training class. Both of these classes have taught me various things
Kaplan will help me by providing me with knowledge I don’t have and helping me attain my bachelor’s degree. With this degree, I will hope to use as a part of my resume to help in the long run. I will also hope to use this so I can enter the best physical therapy program possible to eventually get the best job in the desired area I will settle down at.
My major is Kinesiology with a concentration in clinical exercise. This major allows me to become succeed in one of my dreams, which is to become a physical therapist. Physical therapy is a growing career filled with new and up coming research to cure or help prevent injuries and explore new ways to help people recover and get back on their feet when injured.
The definition of physical education is the educational process that includes physical activity to help individuals retain skills, fitness, knowledge, and attitudes that help lead to optimal development and well-being. Physical education can cover many different things, like the health and well-being of individuals, how to maintain a healthy life, and how to maintain or start healthy habits. In a class room setting it can simply be teaching students how to be coachable, how to play a sport, or how to take care of your body. Two careers in this field of study could be a gym teacher, or a recreation worker. A gym teachers overall description could be “To develop in each student an understanding of the relationship of body function
