My Story
My life started when I was raised by my grandmother who wanted the best out of me. She is the person that made me who I’m today, and I have her gratitude to go college, stay on the right track, and be whoever I want to be in life. My grandmother showed me the world when I was a child, and that’s reason why I want to work in the human service field and work with children. I was raised by both of my mother and grandmother and I learn from two different perspectives in life. I saw how each of them had different ways and I believe that is another way that I over come so many challenges throughout my life.

If we don’t understand someone beliefs or culture we need to find someone who can help the clients or have more understanding before helping the client. I understand as human service worker I need to be ethically in certain aspects with dealing with clients, confidentially is important because we can’t share their information to others. I like hearing and talking to others about their culture and their beliefs and being able hear it more in everyday matter; I will appreciate more and more and know where people are coming from. I don’t hold any bias but if I do I would manage best way I can, and If I don’t agree with something or someone I would recommend them to someone else so their isn’t any conflicts with each …show more content…
I know I can’t help everyone but if I can help one person a day than I know I did something right for that day. I want to get into human service field because I know I be good at helping others and I would love to go into work every day instead of hating my job. Working at my retail job I feel like I’m not doing anything with my life and I not helping people the way I want to help others. I do try to help guest anyway I can but it’s not the same feeling in the human service field. I believe God gave me my helping hand and I want to bring out the best in everyone and use it for good.
Conclusion
In conclusion I want to believe that my grandmother helped me be the way I am today and without her guidance in this world I might of turn up different person. I was told by others I was destiny to help people because I put others before myself and I been like that ever since I was a child. These are the reason why I want my career to be in Human Service Field and I’m glad I chose this
Why is so important to possess cultural knowledge in the field of human service? Firstly, is my understanding based on the class discussion and the text book information, that as human service professionals, we must constantly maintain direct interactions with other human beings. Secondly, knowledge about the client’s culture may prevent so many misunderstandings and help a lot to bring the expected outcome within the timeframe. Let’s make it clear with one example. Several days ago during a class discussion about a cultural topic, one of the students comment in the class discussion that she belongs from Haitian culture and in their culture making eye contact while talking is considered disrespectful. On the other hand, in American culture while speaking, if someone does not make eye contact, leads to believe that the person speaking is lying. Thus, it is a significant contradiction between two cultures and may creating misunderstanding if individual does not aware about these culture. That is why having some basic knowledge about a client’s culture plays a vital role In the Human
There are countless people who aspire to help people in their lives. However, if you think about it, nearly every career helps others in some way, shape, or form. Teachers, scientists, policemen and various other careers aid people in different ways. I, like many others, have always known that I’ve wanted to help people. Yet, I also want to do more than that. I want to help others, but also save others- emotionally or physically, mentor others, inspire others, and be there for others during their most vulnerable times. This is who I am- and I have always been this person. In first grade, I ran a lemonade stand at my school for the Make-A-Wish Foundation; I got my third grade class to raise money for starving children; and I put up with bullying throughout middle school because I befriended a girl who had trouble making friends on her own. The quality of pure selflessness and care for others that I have always possessed would allow me to do something great with my life- it just took me some time to figure out what.
...culture you need to understand who they are. Memorizing different facts about a culture will not necessarily help you in becoming culturally competent with your clients. The code of ethics is a valuable resource that should be used in order to keep the standards high in the profession of social work.

My overall experience in Intro to Human Services was phenomenal. This class was definitely one of my favorite classes this semester. I loved the way it was taught and I was able to understand how human services works while reading the book Precious throughout the semester. This course isn’t an easy class that you can just relax and breeze through. It has a lot of fundamental chapters that explain the jobs of helpers also known as human service workers. I loved how we were supposed to read the chapters before class and then we would review in class. It made more sense by doing it this way. It never felt like we were rushing through the material and the pace of the class was perfect. I also loved how professor Oropall always was willing to explain
Human Service professions are extremely important in today’s society. The Human Services profession is one which promotes improved service delivery systems by addressing not only the quality of direct services, but also by seeking to improve accessibility, accountability, and coordination among professionals and agencies in service delivery. In this paper we will be exploring five different Human Service careers. While exploring these careers we will be looking at the primary tasks of this career, educational requirements, population it assists the most, average salary, challenges and rewards, hiring outlook, and if this career would suit me in my pursuit of employment. The five careers I have chosen are social worker, psychologist, home health aides, parole
I have always been a person that must help, it is difficult for me to sit idle and to do work that is meaningless. I left a safe and secure career in retail when I did not find the meaning the profound affect my work had upon another. A year and a half ago I began that journey to help others through starting my role as a therapeutic staff support. I was able to learn many things, and at the ...

A social worker must present themselves as a learner and understand clients from all experts of their own experiences. I used to hate community service. I only did it if it was a requirement for graduation or for a program. Even when I did community service, I still waited until the very last opportunity to do it. When I heard the words community service, all I could picture is cleaning Philadelphia parks or streets that were filled with trash in either the cold or heat. My mind always went to that space because that 's what my first few encounters with community service consisted of. My high school always had us cleaning something; one time we re-landscaped the parking lot of a homeless shelter. Another time, we cleaned up the weeds out of the loading docks of the non-profit food bank Philabundance. One time my mom made me volunteer
