Throughout my time at Northern Arizona University, I have taken multiple classes in the field of public administration. I have previously taken various public administration courses such as: Introduction to Public Administration, Organizational Theory and Application, Personnel Administration in the Public Sector, Public Budgeting and Finance, Ethics and Policy Administration, Research Methods in the Social Sciences, and lastly, Managing Change in 21st Century Organizations. I gained vast amounts of knowledge regarding public administration due to these courses. As a result of studying public administration, I have specifically learned about budgeting, leadership roles, differences between the public and private sector, and the roles of public administrators in government. The first module focuses on external pressures on public administration. I learned about external forces on public administrators in Introduction to Public Administration, and Managing Change in the 21st Century. Though Introduction to Public Administration only gave a vague overview of external pressures, Managing Change gave greater detail on how there are forces outside of government, including citizens, interest groups and private sector companies who all will influence the decision making process. These same courses also focused on the internal pressures within organizations and government that will also impact the decision-making processes of public administrators. Budgeting is also a topic that I have experience with. Budgeting in the public sector is entirely different than budgeting in the private sector. Lastly, my previous public administration courses emphasized the importance of performance expectation and improvement. Public Administration involves the development, implementation and management of policies for the attainment of set goals and objectives that will be to the benefit of the general public. Since Public Administration involves taking decisions that affect the use of public resources there is often the question of how to utilize public resources for maximum public good. The National Association of Public Administration has identified four pillars of public administration: economy, efficiency, effectiveness and social equity. Public administration as a field of study and as a practice has continually evolved with American society. The United States has survived and thrived through major cultural shifts, varying degrees of economic climates, and both civil and world wars. Through out all these changes in our country, one thing has always remained the same, the fact that we are an ever evolving and always changing nation. Theories and forms of practice of public administration have also evolved parallel with the history of the United States. There have been numerous events in American history have lead to changes in society and the practice of public administration has both led and followed in the adaptation process of such monumental changes.
Since its emergence as a field of study, there have been some important contributions to public administration. Its goal has always been to improve productivity which then improves workplace performance. All of the contributions have been aimed at completing the work with the highest level of efficiency and at the lowest cost.
In the future I would like to see myself, as a continuously promoted public official who could possibly become a pro-active politician in today’s demanding political arena. To achieve this, I would like to gain more knowledge which can help me reach intellectual maturity to the latest practices adopted in the field of Public Administration. My desire for self-development in this area and curiosity to learn past and contemporary developments in different societies will help me to solve the problems easily.

For the spring semester gone and this summer session almost all classes were tied into my major, giving me a better understanding on what I want out of my degree. Two years ago, I was writing my letter of intent for my application to the Master of Public Administration (MPA) with a concentration in Healthcare Administration revealing my failures, and most significantly, that I lost my passion and didn’t know where to start. I also conceded that I was relatively unaware of the field of Public Administration (PA). Little did I know, examining PA theories would enable me to connect the final dots in the big picture of my life, where I came from, who I’d come to be, what choices I’d made, the relationships I nurtured, and my dreams and desires for the future. Although confidence came slowly and awkwardly, I discovered my desire to contribute to the advancement of public health policies. I am writing to express my interest in continuing to the Doctoral program in the School of Public Administration at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO). I am absolutely interested in the commitment to the advancement of knowledge, and confident my experience in higher education and academic research will contribute to my successful completion of the Ph.D. program, in the specialization area of public policy.
The meaning of leadership has many different meanings but there is one that really sticks out to me which is, being a leader of a group, and having that feeling of importance. In leadership of philosophy we learned that there not really a real difentation. According to John C Maxwell, “ A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way. My view of leadership is teamwork, teambuilding, a group leader, and group work. Leadership is a very important in order to be successful.

The Leadership role has it’s exceptional demand on it’s own when it comes to big metropolis organization. The organization I work at it has chain facilities where leaders are not judged by the followers. The followership quotient definitely depends on the behavior of the leader, and most followers follow the footsteps of the leader. Perhaps the organization I work for has it’s own defaults when it comes to leadership. I often look at my manager as the leader of the team, and other times, I look at our scheduling leader and feel she the leader of the team. However my perspective changes based on the scenarios that get handled by each of them.
Leadership, as shown in the video, is very broad. Leadership is grouping people and influencing them to work together as one in order to achieve a common goal or vision. It can either be the promoter of world peace, a powerful innovation, or even the initiator of war. Leadership, in both ways, requires someone to do what one loves to do because leaders excel in their own ways and in their own fields of interest. Every day we meet leaders, some from religious organizations, some are from political parties, school organizations, professional organizations, and others are from rebellious organizations.
