Reflection on the Part A assignment feedback My reflection on my Part A assignment feedback will be guided by the Gibbs reflective cycle model of reflection (Husebø, O'Regan, & Nestel, 2015). This feedback made me feel confident in my ability to write a good university level assessment by following the provided criteria. When I first read the feedback, I felt good about myself and proud of my piece of work. I was quite excited about having done well, as it was one of my first university assignments that I had completed. For these reasons I am still …show more content…
The lectures and readings educated me on many different communication skills and their individual importance for a health professional. While I knew many things about communication prior to starting this topic, the weekly workshops encouraged me to reflect on my actual communication abilities. The workshops were one of the most valuable aspects of my learning as they included whole class discussions, which promoted active listening and addressing large groups of people, and small group discussions, which promoted friendliness and confidence. The core workshop groups were also very helpful in developing my communication skills due to having to collaborated with multiple people to put together a presentation, whether this was the point to ponder or the final role play assessment. These mini presentations helped develop my feedback skills and clarity of my ideas. The final aspect of this topic that assisted in developing my skills was the informative and activity handouts. The notes on these about varying communication skills and their importance are a good reference for my future as a health …show more content…
I have been able to practice this through multiple group activities and through academic assignments across all my topics. Based on the feedback I have received, I reckon I have improved on this skill. This skill will come with further practice in everyday conversations. I will learn more about the concepts I am discussing so I can think about what my point is and then deliver it clearly. Confidence I need to become more confident when speaking to larger groups of people as it demonstrates that I know what I am talking about. My confidence in communicating in larger groups or with people I don’t know has also always needed to be developed. Through frequently communicating with others about a wide range of subjects within this topic have helped improve my confidence a little bit. I can develop my display of confidence through ,y non-verbal communication skills such as making eye-contact and making statements rather than delivering my opinion as a question. Non-verbal communication skills In professional situations I need to show continual engagement throughout the conversation to indicate to others that I am paying attention, listening, and interested in what they are

I am the person who talks to the people in the grocery store line and leaves by having already given a verbal dissertation on my life or viewpoint. This is a downfall/habit I believe I learned from my family, I am the third generation of "20 Minute talks" I have an inability to stop talking or openly discussing with people. As I have learned to harness myself over the years, I see how it aids in my influencing people, because if someone hears something enough they will begin to believe in your vision or your observation. This also is my direct line to building trust, because it is not only spewing out words and explaining it is paired with listening and being attentive to what others are saying. I align everyday discussion with purposeful direct professional advices. Communication does help me with students when they are trying to explain something and lose words or cannot describe things, it helps them fill in blanks. In Physical Education it is key, I not only have to show visually the movements and actions but verbalize and communicate the sequences for students to use as guidelines for success. If my communication is not clear I had a bank of different word approaches to get through to students if it must be differentiated for them. For many years I have had administrators tell me I over-communicate, verbally, email, and memos. Which is a great thing

In Mark Twain’s Life on the Mississippi there is an important relationship between young Mark Twain’s teacher, Mr. Bixby and Mark Twain. This relationship has many ups and downs and for that many readers believe Mr. Bixby was a bad teacher. Bixby is not a gentle soul to say the least but he takes care of his student and wants the best for him and knows how to give that to him. Mr. Bixby is trying to teach young Mark Twain how to pilot a boat. Many instances arise where Twain and his teacher have to be interacting in a way that makes Mr. Bixby’s teaching effective. Some of the interactions between student and teacher are not very pleasant but they are all for the bettering of Twain as a pilot. The worst interaction can be seen when Bixby gets frustrated at Twain but later retraces his steps and calms down. Bixby can be seen as a poor teacher but closely analyzing the different situations will show that he was a really good teacher. Mr. Bixby’s skills of preparing his student, making corrections and being knowledgeable all make him a really good teacher.

I like communicating with other people, and much of my life consists of me with my friends. Communicating with people is a good way to become social and comfortable around people. Public speaking is my least favorite part of communicating but I feel if I go into business, it will be one of the most important things to learn. If I have to give a big speech, it could be the first time several upper management bosses really hear what I have to say, and if I give a poor speech and look frightened, it could make them think I am incompetent and cannot communicate.
The module composed of seven classical themes, consisting of topics such as Gibbs cycle, language for debates, changing NHS culture, mind maps, leadership for academic skills, communicating in difficult situations, health education, presentation skills, etc. A presenter’s appearance

My perception of myself as being introverted and lacking confidence shows in my behaviour and mannerisms during communication with others. In my everyday life I show signs of nervousness while engaging in conversation or other types of communication. For example, I avoid confronting others because of uncertainty of the situation that may arise following confrontation. My nonverbal communication suffers in some areas because of my self-concept as well. In feedback I received during the lab activity “speed dating”, I need to work on making and maintaining eye contact and keeping open body language. According to Belcher, eye contact is especially important because it can either reinforce or diminish our verbal communication (2014). Another common comment was that I need to work on trying the “confrontation” skill. This is consistent with my own observations. Feedback from seminar activities states interpersonal communication skills I am good at include active listening (clarifying and repeating what someone has said), asking open ended questions, and making sure the “client” knows I comprehend them. In communication with others, I need to work on my nonverbal communication cues. However, I am able to engage in active listening, and convey a good understanding of what is being said to
Non-verbal communication doesn’t involve words, but is a powerful form of communication. The way your body language is tells the other party whether or not you are receiving their message or just listening. When your nonverbal behaviors align with the words you’re saying, they indicate to the person you are communicating with that you are trustworthy. When non-verbal behaviors do not align with your message it sends mixed signals on what you are trying to convey. When communicating in business it is imperative that you are conscious of your own body language and nonverbal cues as well as that of
I feel that obtaining good speech skills can be vital to resolving workplace issues. Becoming more direct and getting straight to the point with my speech has impacted my experiences in increase my ability of not losing my listeners interest and avoiding improper articulations by speaking or communicating clearly and effectively to obtain a good impression of his or her listener because a person only gets one time to make a first impression. We must understand the power of the tongue. Changing our words can change our situations.
Learning how to overcome fear through building self esteem and confidence will always have the most important impact to me as a communicator. Public speaking anxiety results into boring and poor speech which is made in hurry. Through my communication lessons I have known how to prepare and practice, get organized, know the details of my topic and learn how to visualize on my success as a communicator in order to beat the fear of public speaking. This in no doubt will have a great impact to me as a motivational
