I like about this leading educational change’s course because it was really something new exposure for me in my learning. This useful and meaningful course allow me to explore deeper about leading the educational change. Throughout this course, I was able to equip myself with the new knowledge and experience regarding leading the educational change in advance. This course really provided me a great opportunity to explore the process of educational change and innovation, how to formulate a question of enquiry based on data analysis, how to design and undertake an organizational based innovation that leads to improvement and how to evaluate the impact of the innovation with suggestions for further refinement and change based on empirical evidence …show more content…
The learning outcomes were clearly briefed by the lecturer at the beginning of the lesson. It provided me the clear concepts and guideline for this course. I was able understand easily and clear about the objectives and requirements for the assignment in this course. I like the way lecturer conduct the lesson using the visual aids such as mind maps and graphics and multimedia such as video clips during teaching and learning process. It helped me to understand the concepts and the information easily and make the lesson more interesting. Besides, I also like the group activities, collaborative and interactive workshop conducted by the lecturer. During those activities, the two way interaction between me and my peers were fully established. It provided me the great opportunity to liaise closely with the lecturer and course mates as well. In the same time, it also created a good rapport among us and enhanced my soft skills too. Indirectly, the supportive learning environment was established successfully. Besides, the discussion activities conducted by the lecturer also develop my critical and creativity thinking, problem solving skills also my soft skills too. I was able to gather useful ideas and information from others during the sharing session. At the end of the discussion, the lecturer also provided the useful feedbacks and comments to us. It helped me to summarize up all the useful information and main points in advance. I liked the lecturer always encouraged students to ask questions and share their views. It was totally helped me to develop my critical and creative thinking during the lessons. Furthermore, the lecturer also provided us a good platform to practice the long distance learning via SPECTRUM. Dr. Tanisha L. Heaston, principal of Treadwell Elementary talks to me about educational change. In my first meeting and interview with her, she displays many if not all the leadership benchmarks of a Change Master and Facilitator. Defined by McEwan (2003), a Change Master is a highly effective principal who is flexible and futuristic. A realistic leader who is able to both motivate and manage change in an organized, positive, and enduring fashion. As a Change Master, she uses a situational approach since every school community requires somewhat different skills. Dr. Heaston respects change resisters, procures resources for her school, and trusts her teams which aligns with ISLLC Standard Six.
My life story began when I was born on June 18, 1990 in the United States. Lived in the U.S.A for about two years and my parents decided to go back to their county and continue living there due to their business. But after 10 years living in Egypt my parents again decided to come to the U.S. for a better future for my siblings and I. However I was blessed to be in a family of Christian. Throughout 10 years being in a Muslim country was something completely different than being in the United States. At the time neither me nor my parents were feeling weird about it because my parents brought me up in churches and placed us in Christian schools that were very stricked about our behaviors and living the Godly life. But in general just never had a problem living in Egypt, I loved everyone around me and didn’t have any problems at all being around different types of religions.
Leading Change was named the top management book of the year by Management General. There are three major sections in this book. The first section is ¡§the change of problem and its solution¡¨ ; which discusses why firms fail. The second one is ¡§the eight-stage process¡¨ that deals with methods of performing changes. Lastly, ¡§implications for the twenty-first century¡¨ is discussed as the conclusion. The eight stages of process are as followed: (1) Establishing a sense of urgency. (2) Creating the guiding coalition. (3) Developing a vision and a strategy. (4) Communicating the change of vision. (5) Empowering employees for broad-based action. (6) Generating short-term wins. (7) Consolidating gains and producing more changes. (8) Anchoring new approaches in the culture.
Change is a double-edged sword (Fullan, 2001). Change is a word that might inspire or put fear into people. Leadership is challenging when it comes to dealing with change and how individuals react within the organization to the change. Marzano, McNulty, and Waters (2005) discuss two orders of change in their book School Leadership that Works: First and Second. Fullan (2001) also adds to the discussion in his book Leading in a Culture of Change, with regard to understanding change.
Grading expectations at DKJA High School have risen over the past several years. Parents and students alike now expect “A” grades and are sorely disappointed when the student earns below an “A.” A good deal of their displeasure is guileless; many of the students truly believe that if they do all their work, they should get an A. As noted by the graph our standings in education is below average, especially with African Americans and Hispanic children compared to other states. If this is the outcome in elementary school what should we expect by grade 8. With all of the various reforms enacted throughout the 30 years the curriculum in public schools did not improve nor did our standing compared to the rest of the world. Even though in each presidency monitoring tool was developed to ascertain the level of learning based on the test. In states where students passing their test equated to more funding of the school as well as the school remains open, jobs for the educators. So oppose to teaching students the information needed educators taught to the test. This is due to politicians not addressing the core issues that prevent children in low social economic status of of color due to cultural biases. Then there is the political climate of education including ignorance towards the benefit of vocational schools and real world learning.
The ability to manage change and adapt to a globally competitive environment are intensifying (Cao and McHugh, 2005). The paradigmatic structure of leading effective schools is constantly evolving in response to societal changes. Essentially, educational change can be categorized into two distinct categories: piecemeal change, which involves making adjustments to the current educational model, and systemic change, which involves transforming the current model ( ). The effort to leading change takes a systematic approach to promote collaborative problem solving that includes reviewing data to determine existence, scope and magnitude of the problem (Senge,1990)

Throughout this course, my beliefs have been reaffirmed regarding the literacy needs of culturally and linguistically diverse learners in a few ways. First, I have been implementing sheltered instruction observation protocol in my classroom. “Sheltered instruction teachers use the regular core curriculum and modify their teaching to make the content understandable for ELLs while at the same time promoting their English language development” (Echevarria, Short & Powers, 2008, pg. 42). The sheltered instruction I have been using in my classroom includes slow and clear speech, scaffolded instruction, visual representations, connecting prior knowledge to learned knowledge, cooperative learning, and targeted vocabulary development (Echevarria, Short & Powers, 2008).
