Integrity What is integrity? Integrity is “the state of being honest and having strong moral principles; moral righteousness.” People all over the world, sit back, hiding, in order to not get caught. Instead of doing the right thing, and coming out to tell the truth. I was always raised to be honest, no matter what the consequence may be. The word integrity is a very strong word, with a very powerful meaning. Having the courage to tell the truth will get you further along in life for the future, rather than hiding in the back being scared. Having the courage, and having the heart to stand up and speak out for what you believe in, will play a much greater role in the way your life plays out, rather than As and Bs you receive in High …show more content…
One day at the beginning of September, as students filled the classroom, the teacher provided an explanation about honesty. As she spoke, everybody’s ears perked up to her, and she stated that it was time for people to tell the truth because it is the right thing to do. I sat there within my chair in the fourth row, thinking, but immediately knew the action I was going to do. As the class period ended I stood up, and walked straight to the teacher saying “I’m going to be honest with you, and tell you the truth.” The teacher with brown hair stood there smiling ear to ear as I came out. Following this action I walked down the hall, immediately I took out my phone, and texted my parents about my actions. I walked to my next class proud of the honesty I showed, and I did the right thing. Everyone’s papers were similar, as people worked together. The teacher frowned upon all of us, but I stood up by doing the right thing, and told her the truth, and that is how every situation should be resolved. The honesty that I displayed, regarding this issue, hopefully will regain my teacher’s trust, so that she can look for me for honesty of events. The actions that took place were not allowed, but I did not know that at the time, but I told the truth no matter what the consequence may be. One wise man once stated, “work smarter, not harder” so the students had worked together in order to help one another. Upon submitting the assignment, the teacher was very disappointed with the students. I stepped up and told the truth by saying, “yeah I helped other students on their work, and students helped me on my homework”. I knew the consequence might not be what I was looking for, but it was the right thing to do in showing courage to step up right away, and tell the truth. With myself stepping up and stating the truth, others came to me
Integrity can be described to who a person is when no one is watching. A person with integrity does the right thing even when they are alone and they know no one else is around. An example in the Marine Corps would be standing a post by yourself. If you are all alone on a post and no one else is scheduled to come out for hours, does the person continue to walk their post or do they
Integrity is the quality of having honesty and strong values. In the story “from Sir Gawain the Green Knight” Sir Gawain had to face many challenges and still had integrity. Although he botched some of his tests, he also exceeded some of the trials. His integrity helped him throughout all the challenges he faced. Due to the all the tests that were given he had to face them all. They were set to an ingenious mark on the King. The king’s test was to prove and see if he was conscientious, robust, and committed.
Based on Merriam-Webster, Integrity means to have the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles. In the article “The Insufficiency of Honesty” by Stephen Carter, the author described that Integrity is a form of honesty, although honesty itself stand for something else. This is why he sees those two virtues as partly different . Carter realized this difference between complete truth and righteousness. Honesty is to tell the complete truth, but integrity is more about righteousness. Sometimes telling the truth could hurt somebody’s feelings which could be a disaster. “The truth hurts”, but having integrity means to not only be a truthful person, but one with moral values, being able to put other’s first and being able to keep promise. Equaling honesty to integrity is downgrading the great meaning behind the word as the author stated one person “may tell us quite truthfully what they believe without ever taking the time to figure out whether what they believe is good and r...
Integrity to me means going above and beyond with everything I do. I think this will fuel good grades and completion of assignments. Having good integrity also came with some confidence, because I had to do more and go outside of the crowd. I did and do more than everyone else, that made me fell a lot more confident about my actions. Confidence has pushed me to make suggestions that I otherwise wouldn't.
Integrity is an idea that has been discussed by individuals with a verbal acuity far beyond anything I could ever hope for. With that in mind, I will not delve deeply or poetically into what integrity is or should mean. However, I will simplify the meaning of integrity; at the core, integrity boils down to doing what is right even if nobody is watching. See a piece of trash on the ground and nobody is around...pick it up. Driving down the road with no cops in sight...drive the speed limit. Arrive at a tollbooth and no attendant is working…pay the toll. An applicant is not readily available to sign a form for enlistment…track them down and ensure they sign it. I could write examples until infinity becomes paltry in comparison, yet I am sure I have made my point clearly; the greater good must be upheld regardless of who is there to ensure it is happening. It seems obvious that integrity should be a trait every individual is hardwired with from birth. However, integrity is a thankless trait; nobody is around after all. An individual cannot expect someone to clap, to smile, to thank them, to do anything actually. By definition, integrity should be something that is followed through with simply because an individual wishes to do what is correct, not because they expect accolades of any sort.
Integrity is how somebody lives their life. In this life we live, we face choices every day that only we can answer. We dictate how we run our own lives, and they way we run them defines us. Integrity is doing the right thing versus the wrong thing. People, if nothing else, can always have their pride, their integrity. It is something that means a lot to some people and then nothing to others. The ones who value their integrity highly are the good people in this world, and the opposite is true for those who do not value their integrity.
The world we live in today is far from perfect. Hearing about murder and violence is something we have all become, accustom to but does that make it right? Absolutely not. Media has influenced an affected a key value of human beings and that value is integrity. The value of integrity is severely lacking and society needs to reestablish the ability to look beyond race, gender, and sexuality. I have seen on multiple occasions’ individuals jumping to conclusions or judging someone simply off the way they look or dress. This has been an issue I have witnessed throughout my high school career and in my everyday routine; media is a large contribution and something needs to be done.
4) Why is integrity an important characteristic for a social worker to possess? How will you be certain you act with integrity?
Integrity is the quality of being honest. When you are honest about something or a certain situation you are considered a person of integrity. Also when you have integrity you have strong moral principles. When you have strong moral principles you know what is right and what is wrong. “Having integrity means doing the right thing in a reliable way. It's a personality trait that we admire, since it means a person has a moral compass that doesn't waver. It literally means having "wholeness" of character, just as an integer is a "whole number" with no fractions.” Furthermore, having integrity is a quality that many strive to have because it often means that you are a good person.
It is well known that when we are confronted with the view of people outside of our daily existence, we are forced to question our assumptions about who we are and what the way we live life means. When you drive around with a messy car filled with fast food wrappers, you don’t notice them until you offer to give someone a ride. When Montaigne met members from a more primitive society in Brazil it made him confront his own ideas on what it meant to be a moral human being. This confrontation opened up many great thoughts on the subject.
The term “ethics” refers to an external set of rules that have been established by an institution or organization, for example, a university, and the members are expected to follow them. On the other hand, integrity refers to an individuals’ internal set of principles that guides their actions and behavior (Czimbal and Brooks n.p.). As a rule, people are usually rewarded when they follow ethical codes of conduct by an external committee or board that monitors their behavior. For a person of high integrity, the benefits are usually intrinsic. Moreover, such individuals always make the right decisions even when they are not being watched. Therefore, this feature of character is often influenced by a person’s upbringing. In
Honesty and integrity are very important in the medical field. We as healthcare workers are given such trust and responsibility. We should always strive to do our best and when faced with tough situations. When we don't always know what to do or the proper way to react we should always be honest. Let our superiors know what is going on and ask for advice when we need to. This would show that we are honest. When we come into contact with patients they rely on us to do the right thing and always perform our job with integrity. Often people’s lives are in our hands. We have to care about the patient and care about our job in order to continue to provide quality care. If someone hates their job they are not going to give their best in every way they can. The medical field is not a place for that person.
Honor and integrity are two fundamental principles of society, stemming from past civilizations. In my opinion, honor is something accredited to person for doing the right thing repeatedly, regardless of his or her personal circumstance. Honor can be established through self-sacrifice, honesty, and other good deeds. Honor is also an action that can be shown to other people, much like respect. Honoring one another’s needs and wishes, a group of students can operate more effectively and happily. Integrity is knowing when to do the right thing and doing that thing. An honorable person would have a strong sense of integrity and follow it. Much like in society as a whole, honor and integrity are key elements to a successful student body in a university.
The degree that I am working for is of a major importance in every aspect of my future career, it contains the value to help develop my work ethics, aptitudes, and more not only in the human resources field, nevertheless any other occupation I may decide to attempt. Reputation and integrity is what makes a degree indispensable, it encompasses values that only the recipient is accountable for the vocation fails or success, consequently, to stay on top of priorities follow with excellent comportments can help virtuous results. Academic integrity is a learning project, in which, I enjoy being updated because not every company have the same work policy’s, thus, it can benefit me to understand and comprehend the most out of my professors advise. I had learned from my academic courses to be responsible and conscientious of my actions, hence, I will continue with my excellent work ethics that as of today I have learned from my instructors.
Integrity is, in my opinion the important characteristics because it’s a core quality of a great life, building a big “character” to ensure that someone knows right from wrong. My mom said to me “Without integrity you’re just a living failure”. Throughout my whole life I have used integrity in some way, shape, or form. Like playing sports, I have always been the leader of every team I played for if it was in basketball, baseball, and football. In sports having integrity is very
