The value of integrity The world we live in today is far from perfect. Hearing about murder and violence is something we have all become, accustom to but does that make it right? Absolutely not. Media has influenced an affected a key value of human beings and that value is integrity. The value of integrity is severely lacking and society needs to reestablish the ability to look beyond race, gender, and sexuality. I have seen on multiple occasions’ individuals jumping to conclusions or judging someone simply off the way they look or dress. This has been an issue I have witnessed throughout my high school career and in my everyday routine; media is a large contribution and something needs to be done. I see it every day with disrespect, racism, and discrimination. There are numerous amounts of influences that distort society 's moral values. Music being the number one in my opinion; rap and hip-hop is a huge industry in today’s popular music scene. The problem is that it is not sending out a "positive" directive. Rap music derived from hip- hop, which reflected upon the violent lifestyles of kids and young adults in inner city neighborhoods. Rappers corrupt moral values by their disrespect towards, authorities, women, and laws. A rap group named N.W.A. even has a song titled "F*** The Police". This industry has created a world where minors and even young adults think it is cool to disrespect our authorities, and laws. Correcting this issue will be difficult, but possible. Throughout high school I did not have the best values that I have today. I did what other kids thought was cool like any other high school student trying to fit into a new place. In the future, I plan on pursuing a career in education. I plan on demonstrating the values of equality very thoroughly. Making a safe and pleasant environment is what I am hoping to accomplish. A teacher can impact a student’s life heavily. For example, my sophomore year theology teacher Mr. Finnochio, was a man of integrity. I never met a nicer, more thoughtful person in my life. The way he spoke to the class and respected everyone else’s opinion was extraordinary. He never judged or excluded anyone from anything and he impacted my life greatly. Mr. Finnochio is the reason why I would like to fulfill a career in education. I have experienced it and I know teachers can make a difference in this
