We all love recess if you like to play, read or talk. This will tell you why recess is fun and good for you and me. I hope you will agree with me. And know my reasoning for recess to stay. Recess can be beneficial for many reasons: socialization, exercise, and just plain fun!
Socialization is a big problem. Kids will not know how to react with people when they get older. Because they did not get recess. And the kids will not even know how to socialization with each other too. Now do you see my point.
Most kids do not get exercise. But are next generation will not be strong. It is your choose school system. Do you risk the next generation. Just For money.

to people against recess(kids can have more time in the classroom and longer class)ok I know that we should have recess. The only reason we have school is to SOCIALIZE and learn that’s why we have school. most people do not no that.taking your kids to school is stupid too.all the kid can easily get sick or a virus like the FLU which is still a big problem but there is one thing that benefits from school SOCIALIZE. But most school that take away recess because they want better test score. want money Better test scores=money. they just want to get payed. And recess stops bullying because SOCIALISE. Some people might say that middle schoolers shouldn’t have recess, but, middle schooler don’t always have gym, and they don’t get enough exercise, so recess would be beneficial to middle schoolers.
In an era of technological advancement and better machines, most people go to the gym to stay healthy and fit. People often forget that walking can be an exercise which has two benefits; one, that it can take you from one destination to another in an ecological and economic way (as people save money on gas and in return keep the environment clean), and another ,that it helps us remain fit and active. Research has also proven many health benefits of walking such as it can reduce the risk of high blood pressure and diabetes. Walking also energizes the body which makes us less lazy and makes individuals more productive. If walking is devalued, the next generation of kids will not value walking as an asset in our lives and this will make them lazier. As more people devalue walking, it will impact the next generation of kids as parents will not teach their kids benefits of walking and these values will start diminishing as new generations come with time. This will make kids lazier and more children would want to stay at home and play video games(As we can see with this generation of kids) rather than go walking. Who doesn’t want to have to do exercise? Everybody needs exercise to be in good health, but some people don’t like to exercise. They just want to stay inside and do nothing in life. Even though people don’t want to exercise all the time they could have a treadmill or a bike to exercise on instead of going outside and running or play basketball with friends just to lose weight. Sometimes students get lazy after work or school and don’t want to go outside and enjoy the nice weather. There needs to be Middle school sports or even more kids will become obese. When a kid starts playing a sport, he could really get hooked on it and play every week. Students should be familiar with all of these qualities, so that they can apply them to the real world. Negotiating comes into play when there are oppositions, group projects, or team sports. Children learn how to negotiate with each other by reaching an agreement. This is seen when children first begin to play games or sports with one another at recess. Negotiation is a significant quality that teaches students that they do not always get their way. Social skills can be formed through interactions with people. Recess provides students with the opportunity to interact with other children in order for them to learn different behaviors. This time that is set aside for recess teachers children about acceptable and non-acceptable behaviors. Students utilize their social skills to create special bonds with others at recess time. These bonds are friendships that teach children how to improve upon their social skills. Friends are the people who bring out the best in people. Getting the social time that comes with recess can help a child socially and emotionally. Recess gives time students time to interact with their peers and this is when they practice things like role playing, negotiating, cooperation, sharing, and problem solving; these skills are very important for life long tools.
In her Huffington Post blog article titled Here’s One Way to Wreck a Child’s Education: Take Away Recess, Haley Krischer takes an emboldened stand against the practice of eliminating recess; which is often done as a punishment or to make more time for instructional learning. I stand in agreement with Krischer. I do not agree with schools taking away recess for any reason with the exception of dangerous weather or environmental circumstances. Yet, research indicates how common the 86-ing of recess is occurring in schools. A study by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (2010) revealed 77% of school Principals reported taking away recess as a punishment, and 81.5% of schools allow students to be excluded from recess. Krischer begins the article by introducing her 9 year old son and his affinity for recess: “the only subject he will talk about”. She gives examples of how recess benefits her son such as other students who help him troubleshoot technology issues and challenging him to improve his sports skills. Indeed, the unstructured playtime allows children to explore their environment and develop new ideas and understandings of it and those within it (American Pediatric Association, 2013). Kischer also expressed that children need active play to combat restlessness and that this is especially important for children who may suffer from ADHD, noting that taking away recess as a punishment for misbehavior may be counterproductive and result in increased behavioral problems. A longitudinal study that followed over 10,000 students between the ages of 8 and 9 concluded that student recess of at least 15 minutes resulted in better behavior as rated by teachers (Samuels, 2009).
Schools all over the country are considering, if not already applying, the removal of recess for elementary school students. Receipts have been scientifically proven to play a substantial part in the social development of a child, their physical health, and the amount of attention they pay in the classroom. For example, the Tennessee Board of Education says, "It is the position of the NASPE that all elementary school children should be provided with at least one daily period of recess of at least 20 minutes in length" (National Association for Sports and Physical Education). Keeping recess in schools could help lower the childhood obesity rate, help children to be more attentive in class, and assist in the development of their much needed social skills. These aspects are essential to academic health and to your child succeeding academically.

In the 20th century children played sports more often, walked to school and more. The children of the 21st century make choices that are completely opposite. The sports children play these days include watching television, playing games and eating junk food. Watching television and playing millions of videos games are excuses to help children avoid exercising.
However, despite the unquestionable link to a brighter future for the children who engage in it, less and less time is being allotted for play in the classrooms. As standards for what children are expected to know at younger and younger ages continues to rise along with the demand for standardized testing from the state, time for play is being sacrificed. Adults are choosing to get rid of time for unstructured play and recess to make time for this new testing interfering with the time allotted for children to learn independently through play. Cutting play and recess is a mistake, and here is why: “recess gives students time for social interactions: for students must be able to initiate, negotiate, cooperate, share, and build relationships with one another--skills that are highly valued in the adult world but that often are quite different from work or play under adult supervision and control” (Chang). Those skills learned through play, are often not the sole purpose of a classroom lesson and could potentially be the only place they learn those needed skills. Play is an affective measurement in the classroom as well as outside of the classroom and children can learn so much from it if only given the chance
With more technology to feel the gap of physical labor for humans and poor nutrition, obesity is rising and people are not living up to their potential. Children have been spending more time indoors with a screen in their face and a controller in their hand. Lack of physical activity not only causes obesity, but lack of brain power and achievement. Children and their families need to be taught the proper ways of how to be healthy in physical education classes to maintain their health across their life span. By incorporating in more lifelong knowledge about health into our physical education systems, obesity rates will drop and students will do much better in school.
When students miss out on social opportunities in a typical classroom they are missing out on opportunities for academic enrichment (collaborating on projects, working in pairs, participating in class discussions) as well as personal and social enrichment (making new friends, playing games). The long-term goals are to continue building relationships over time and having greater social competence. “The earlier we can intervene with these children and teach the necessary social skills, the more likely it is that they will become adjusted and socially competent young adults and adults” (Stephens 2). Adolescence is a critical time in society; it is a developmental period where children have an experimental foundation for developing a variety of social skills. Also not exercising is an issue. If one does not get any exercise the fatty acids from the food consumed just sits in the stomach and builds up more fat. Parents need to encourage their children to get involved in extracurricular activities. Luckily, schools have Physical Education classes that students take part in. However, some schools don’t require their students to participate in their P.E. classes as much as other schools. For example, one school may require their students to attend P.E. class everyday for a half hour or more, and another school may require a half hour of P.E only twice a week. However, the senate passed a bill this past year that required Florida elementary school students to have 30 minutes of continuous exercise daily (The Associated Press).
