Introduction
Ray Kroc said it best when he stated, “the quality of a leader is reflected in the standards they set for themselves.” This is deemed true for every leader that I have admired throughout my life. Take Tom Brady, for example. He would have never won five super bowls had he not set the standard of being an elite-caliber quarterback from the beginning.
And this is not to be considered arrogance. It should simply be considered confidence, and admired by all in his ability to dream. I find this ability consistent in every leader I have admired; being, the ability to project the future and implement it one goal at a time. So, he must have trust that his team can do as good of a job when tackling the challenges of client satisfaction and acquisition. This entails daily meetings between him and his team. The meetings allow for their relationships to be maintained, only to aid in the relationships they each have with the clients. In reflection, many of Patrick’s actions included at least one of the six leader behaviors of the adaptive leadership model. For starters, “getting on the balcony” is very apparent when he addresses the technical and adaptive challenges. It is vital that he, as a senior advisor, observe the market to make the best choices for asset allocation. Also, in the adaptive challenges he faces, understanding perspective is vital for relationship success; both within the team and between clients. Another noticeable behavior would be Patrick’s ability to regulate distress. The daily team meetings, mentioned prior, provides the team with an environment to be comfortable in when analyzing their challenges. They each rely on one another for their success, so having the ability to recognize such is incredibly valuable. Lastly, for Patrick to be successful, he must maintain disciplined attention.
