Random Act of Kindness
We performed a random act of kindness at the Aurora fire station. Brittney, one of the members, suggested that it was a really good idea. She got the idea because she watches the show “Chicago Fires.”Our whole group agreed because we think that firefighters don’t get recognized as much for their work as much as police officers do. Also, many firefighters are strong and brave so we thought that it was a really amazing idea.
We demonstrated five teachings in our random act of kindness video. Which included: charity good will, character, salt and light, and friendship.
The first teaching is charity. We noticed that firefighters do not need charity in the same way as homeless people need food or shelter. But we still wanted to show that we care and recognize that their job is challenging. So our charitable act was to show treat five firefighters to a special meal. We made lasagna, deli sandwiches, salads and a variety of desserts.
The second teaching is good will. Firefighters are good community members who often help out with events that are outside of their jobs. The men we met showed good will in welcoming us to the station and showings us the locker room, the truck, their uniform and what it sounds like when there is an emergency. We show showed good will by recognizing firefighters for the contribution they make. We

wanted them to feel valued and appreciated. In our video we showed one of the Sermon on the Mount teachings, which is salt and light.
We showed light because we were spreading our kindness around the fire station since we held a big dinner to that the firefighters. After that night all the firefighters emailed our teacher saying how happy they felt after we all left. “The world is like a dark night, but you are to be the world’s light.” This quote relates to our Rak because being a firefighter can be hard at times. But I feel when we visited them we “lit up” their world. We were their light, and we made a big difference when we went to the station and held the
dinner. The RAK project allowed us to open up and meet new people and share a meal together. We all shock hands with the firefighters and introduced ourselves. We were all really nervous, but we tried to open up to them as much as we can because it was a new experience for them and for us. We talked about our lives. They asked us many questions such as what are our future goals, what's happening at school, what grade we were in, What kind of part time-jobs we had. At the end they also gave us badges from real firefighters uniforms, and we also gave them each dessert boxes to keep for later. All of them were really kind to us, and they really appreciated the food.

These ten things are necessary for any new firefighter. If you wish to be successful you must respect the job, ask questions when in doubt, manage your ego, understanding failure equal death, how to maintain a truck, handling an emergency, safety, accountability and keep an open mind to learning new things. It is hard work, but it totally worth it in long run. Remember stay hungry to learn, study new fireground tactics. Learn by doing, reading, and listening.
I am excited to pass the skills needed to be a good firefighter down to the new firefighters through drilling and coaching. I have honed these skills by mentoring several new firefighters. I am able to operate all tools that are used by the Cincinnati Fire Dept. and I can operate all fire apparatus.
I will teach my students the power of not giving up on what they believe in. In this book “The Warriors Don’t Cry”, we are told not to be afraid and resist the norm; if something is not right we need fight it and make it better. Melba and the other members of the Little Rock Nine was able to bring about change, they were able to shift the power of one group of people over to another through resistance. Resistance doesn’t have to be violent, it can be peaceful. Melba’s Grandma India teaches us all that you can get a lot of things done with just passive resistance. Smiling in the face of your enemies as they try to cause harm to you. Not only shows them that you are strong enough to take anything they dish at you, but also so you have
Fire safety education is a crucial aspect of fire prevention. The general public needs to know how big of a threat fire is to them and how they can do things in their everyday lives to improve their safety, as well as preventing the threat of fire to begin with. The commission also realized that it was critically important that people know how to properly act once a fire has started. It is important that people have the knowledge to act quickly, safely, and effectively. When people don’t understand fire they can react in many negative ways such as panicking, not evacuating effectively, or by trying to fight a fire that they are not going to be able to extinguish. All these human reactions can decrease safety and end with tragic results. In the commission’s report they approximate that nearly 70 percent of all building fires were due to people acting carelessly because they did not understand the fire dangers that were present. The commission cited studies like one conducted in southeast Missouri. In the southeast Missouri community, a huge emphasis was put into public fire safety education because the fire death rate of the community was much higher than the national average. After increasing fire safety education in the community it was no surprise that the rate of deaths and injuries decreased
For centuries, the men and women of the fire service have been pioneering new ways to “do more with less”. When faced with a predicament, these individuals use the resources available to them to find a suitable resolution. How will this be possible if those resources are not available?
Effective Altruism is a combination of philosophy and social movement that involved moral values to improving the global, for example, poverty, death of disease and starvation. The values of effective altruism consist open-mindedness, critical thinking, and global empathy. Which means, doing things that bring largest positive influence, applying evidence and aim to identify the effective ways, and valued all lives. In Singer’s speech, he said that "Effective Altruism is combined with head and heart. Define how necessary it is and doing in a right direction. Singers also gave examples of a two-year-old girl who has hit by two truck and preventable disease--Malaria." (TED, 2013) Like, “the ripple effect” (TED,
“Teaching has both hurt me and helped me in the fire service. I have to keep up with the latest trends in the fire service. This is an advantage to most people as the fire service because it is reared that most crews keep up with current trends. Unfortunately, officers like there (old School) training so what I know is sometimes looked down upon as (textbook) firefighting.
This subject is relevant to the audience who are in their early twenties to thirties, Ken makes his main statement to the audience when he declares: Our educational systems need to be more tailored to the student, instead of the student catering to the system. When Ken spoke the audience’s reactions were as that of little kids on Christmas day, they were highly receptive to what he said. He used a personal story to further their interest to his topic, he told a story about a fireman he met at the bookstore. The fireman talked about how when he was in high school his teacher told him that he should be something rather than a fireman the teacher made fun of his student.. Six months after the student became a fireman he ended saving his teachers life. Children have ideals, and we should be careful to tread lightly on
From Greek origins, storge can be defined as a natural affection between family, friends, and the community. This innate bond allows for understanding, compassion, and attachment between people. This concept of storge can be seen in Miriam Toews’ A Complicated Kindness, as the teenage protagonist, Nomi Nickel, undertakes the responsibility of restoring her family and friend’s happiness and hopefulness through small acts of kindness. Ultimately, the force of storge influences Nomi and her family to rekindle the happiness of the citizens in the Mennonite community, which suggests the transition of the citizens’ characters from static to dynamic.
Random acts of kindness is a great way to encourage others to be kinder to people. By doing this project we would be showing people that it is a good thing to be kind. We would be setting an example for people all around Jackson County. We feel people in Jackson County need help on how to be more kind. This is the reason why we will be doing random acts of kindness. Once or twice a week, depending on what we choose to do, we will both, separately or together, do something kind for someone without planning it out.
I went to the grocery store and got cases of water, bags of bread, and stuff to make the sandwiches. I had finished preparing the bags and each had granola bars, fruit, ham and cheese sandwiches, water, toothpaste, and other hygiene products. My dad and I had arrived outside the homeless shelter and were ready to pass the bags out as we saw the swarm of people. Hundreds maybe even thousands of people gathered sitting in what little shade there was. I knew we had a homeless problem, but not to this extent and the bags I had made were going to make little to no difference on the vast amount of people that had been sitting outside. I was a little disappointed at first to be completely honest because I was not prepared for that many people. If I would have known there would have been so many people I would have made more bags. We drove around the block planning on what we were going to do and saw some tents set up. My dad and I were curious as to what they were, so we got out the car and saw that these people had been giving people food and I walked up to them and asked if there was any way I could help them. These people in the tents were actually an organization called Open Arms Outreach and a few girls scouts. They gladly let us help and we brought a few cases of water and the bags I had made and helped pass them out. The organization Open Arms Outreach
George Vaillant. Oxytocin is the hormone responsible for all sorts of interpersonal bonding and attachment between parents and children or romantic partners. Thus, hugging really lowers stress and the negativity that peoples experiences. Hugging also helps improve immune system. This however takes effect when you hug a person whom you trust. According to a neurophysiologist, Jürgen Sandkühler, a hug would lose its effects if the person hugging you is a complete stranger who you do not trust, if the associated feelings are present mutually and if the corresponding signals are sent out, or if the hug is not desired by both parties. When we receive unwanted hugs from strangers or even people we know, the hormone oxytocin is not released and anxiety levels rise. When this happens, stress rises and the hormone cortisol
One may voice that generosity cannot be taught for the reason that no one can educate you on how to conduct yourself in a generous way. I for one would be against that just to say an individual is not being instructed by a physical human being what it means to be generous but you are merely discovering by trial and error what true generosity is. It’s up to that individual to take their experiences and turn it into actions of true generosity. virtues identical to generosity, is essentially required to be present and enthusiastically encouraged and trained in sequence to converting into consistent habits. This can alter our logical attentiveness to activating and giving routine to influences supporting
The most joyous season of the year in our house is Christmas. All the family gets together, gifts are exchanged and we give thanks for all that we have. This Christmas however, was one that I will never forget. If it weren't for the help of a stranger coming to my rescue, my holidays would have been ruined. He reminded me that a little kindness really does go along way.
