Question 1: Qualities of a Registered Nurse According to Mason, Isaacs and Colby (2011), provision of care in the field of nursing calls for expertise, critical thinking and sound clinical judgment, ability to combine all dimensions of health, and a lot more. Registered nurses should therefore posses a number of important attributes in providing care in health institutions. A nurse should possess exemplary communication skills. A nurse should adhere to instructions with ease and explain clearly the health conditions of patients to their family. A nurse should also foresee the needs of a patient (Jacksonville University School of Nursing 2014). Watching people suffer and die each day can harden the feelings of a nurse. The nurse should have outstanding compassion and empathy to remain a great nurse. The nurse should empathize with a patient and with families incase of lose. A nurse does not work in isolation rather she/he works with other nurses, doctors and other staff at the health facility. The nurse should have exceptional interpersonal skills. With good interpersonal skills, the nurse will handle her patients gladly even when she has some friction with other staff (Sivamalai 2008). Duty can at times mean working longer, taking double shifts calling for flexibility in a nurse. At work, a nurse expects to lift patients and other heavy objects. A nurse should practice healthy eating habits, exercise, and a lead an overall healthy lifestyle. The nurse in doing so will be in a position to withstand physical tension thus work for longer and efficiently. A nurse should have respect for people and rules governing professional conduct of a nurse.
