We are looking at the Teachers Pyramid of Influence and how the modeling is considered to be the foundation for influencing others. Modeling is one of the biggest things that teachers do regard to teaching. In the book on page 3, it talks about how a non-smoker teacher talks about the harmful effects that would arise if you were a smoker. This can have a great influence on children when someone they respect or know says negative things about certain things. The only other influences in many of the children’s lives are their parents, and siblings. The reason the teachers influences might be the most powerful is because they spent and interact with the student for the most amount of time throughout the day. So, when a child is told something …show more content…
Yet, that would not be tried and most if not all teachers would agree with that. When you look at where we put the most energy it is in the attempt to teach the students between lesson plans and activities. Yet, that’s not what we need to teach them. We need to teach them the different between right and wrong and how they should act in different situations. When I think of an effective teacher I think of my 7th grade resource teacher. She helped me not only with grades but helped me become the person I am. She was strict; there were times that I hated her and then there were days where she was my best friend. To this day she is my favorite teacher and is one of the reasons I want to be a teacher. The reason I shared that store is because that is what I think you need to have to get an effective teacher. You have to be strict with your students, and yet, have to be his friend and talk to him about personal issues the student might be facing. On Gordon.edu they say that, “effective teachers ask probing questions to challenge accuracy and completeness of …show more content…
I think the big two concerns for me are the effects of media into days society. My second thing is something that we need to focus on as Physical Education majors; diet and nutrition. I think as teachers we need to understand our students more when it comes to social media. For many of us it’s a way to stay in contact with our friends we live in different cities or states. But, for students a life line something that many need to be cool or have that social status in clicks in the school. According to, http://listcrux.com cyberbullying is the number two for the cause of suicide for teens. We need to let how much damage bullying kids can do. If a person kills themselves because someone told them to do it, it can be considered a crime and could end someone in jail. Unfortunately, for many students they don’t think it will happen to them if they make fun of someone photo or make a post bashing them. The second thing we need to do is teach everyone about diet and nutrition. Why do I think this is important? That is because of the obesity rate in are schools todays. Right now we have over sixty percent of people are considered over weight in America. That is a crazy number and most are caused because of unhealthy eating habits. We as health and physical education teachers need to promote healthy eating. Not just by saying it but by demonstrating it. We need to do what we
Another important quality of an outstanding educator is competence. Outstanding teachers are highly capable. They know how to do their job, and they do it very well. They are smart, well ed...
Furthermore, Getting better grades, being more safer, and having more self confidence can lead to a better more happy life. If students or teens keep on using social media they might receive bad comments and post about themselves and they could inflict self harm. This is bad and teens would not want to do this to themselves but for some reason they feel like they should because of all the mean comments that they read. Getting better grades is also an important If social media got banned and teen didn't go on it they would have a more happy life where they could be more safe and get better
The effective teacher exhibits positive expectations for all students. Having positive expectations simply means that the teacher believes in the student and that the student can learn. Students will live up to the expectations you set, and to be effective- your expectations should be positive for all students. The effective teacher establishes good classroom management techniques. Classroom Management is practices and procedures that a teacher uses to maintain an environment in which instruction and learning can occur. Effective teachers manage, ineffective teachers discipline; this book guides you in practicing procedures with your students. The effective teacher designs lessons for student mastery. Mastery simply means a student's demonstration that a concept or skill can be performed at a level of proficiency determined by the teacher. Student success in the subject matter of the class will be the result of how well the teacher designs lessons and checks for mastery. You must know how to get students to do their assignments, pass their tests, and work cooperatively. Wong states that what you do on the first few days of school can determine your success for the rest of the year.
In chapter two of Ryan Cooper’s textbook, Those Who Can, Teach, he lists eight characteristics of an effective school: “[1] high expectations for student performance, [2] communication among teachers, [3] a task orientation among the staff, [4] the ability to keep students on task, [5] the expenditure of little time on behavior management, [6] the principal’s instructional leadership, [7] the participation of parents, and [8] the school environment” (51). While all eight characteristics above greatly contribute to a school’s overall success, some characteristics have a greater ability to affect the success of a given school. Educators Wong and Wong point out that research consistently says effective teachers exhibit three characteristics: 1) they are good classroom managers, 2) they teach for learning and mastery, and 3) they have positive expectations (8-10). Because I believe the foundation of school effectiveness relies on teachers, I consider the characteristics with a focus on effective teacher-to-student interaction most important. Taken from the list above, those characteristics are (1) teachers who exhibit high expectations for student performance, (3) a task orientation among the teaching staff, and (4) the ability to keep students on task.
Bullying is a prevalent issue in school communities across the world which has caused great damages to the bullied. In fact, suicides is one of the leading cause of deaths in students 10 to 14 years old and the cause of suicide was overwhelmingly from bullying. Bullying is pervasive amongst all age groups; statistics show there is an estimated 1 in 7 students grades K-12 who are being bullied. Social media is increasingly becoming the new medium for bullying where anonymity allow bullies to be as toxic as pleases them. So what good solutions has our schools came up for this? Nothing, most students agree.

Everyone knows that when it comes to making a difference in a child’s academic and life achievements, their teachers play a large role. A teacher’s ability to relate to their students, and teach them to achieve both socially and academically, contributes to how effective they are. What does it mean to be an effective teacher? Overall, there seems to be an emphasis on teacher effectiveness related to how well their students are performing on standardized testing. As teachers, we know there is more to being an effective teacher than just teaching our students based on tests.
Everyone has had that one teacher in their lives that they either loved or despised. After watching the film of “Freedom Writers” I began to think back at what qualities made me prefer certain teachers over others. Reading the Psychology Applied to Teaching textbook opened my eyes into realizing the reasons why there were some teachers that I was very fond of and those that I was not. I realized that teachers have an important and impactful role in either increasing your love towards a subject or decreasing it. There are certain qualities that make teachers effective, including: being aware of the child/student, realistic expectation of their students, and never accepting low-quality work.
Have you ever thought about other people in general, why some people are the way they are, or in other cases why they act a certain way that may not be to your liking?
Todays’ teaching is tailored to student’s interest and strategies. Teachers are taught that a well-developed lesson plan should be engaging to students in order for the students to learn. This philosophy is the total opposite of what is being taught in education programs. I cannot imagine a classroom that does not teach its students based off a curriculum that meets the student’s needs and interest. It is proven research that everyone learns best when information is tailored to meet the specific learner interest.
There are many things which make a teacher great and they all can`t be defined. However i`ve always considered several of them essential. In my opinion a good teacher is someonewho first of all creates interest in studying, doesn`t underestimate the children, has equal expectations of siccess from everyone and last but not least likes his job.
There are all types of teachers some are better than others. Through my life I had some professors who were well prepared and some who were not. I had some teachers who just came into the class and stared teaching. They did not get involve with the students. I rarely talked to them. Those teachers did not showed any concern about what the students were feeling.
Every teacher has their strong points as well as weak points. Teaching is very hard work and some of them never grow to be anything better than mediocre. They do the bare minimum and very little over and above the call of duty. There are several ways to become a great teacher. Teachers are truly dedicated workers who put a lot of time and schooling into being able to teach for the rest of their lives.
In the classroom teachers need to be flexible to put in to practice many different
It is also a necessity that parents have an understanding of digital media to avoid the generational technology divide. This is a divide that is quickly growing because children are learning about digital media at a faster rate than their parents. If young people have an understanding of how to make good choices on digital media than they are less likely to negatively affect their future college applications and jobs through what they post online. Cyberbullying is a large problem among young people, and this is often because they are able to hide behind a screen while posting anything they want online. Bullying has always been a problem amongst students, but digital media has created a whole new form. There have been countless suicides as a result of cyberbullying. If young people have a thorough understanding of the consequences of digital media then cyberbullying is likely to decrease. Social media can beneficial in connecting people together and allowing them to build relationships, if young people are educated they are more likely to know how to communicate with one another in a positive way (Dotterer). Digital media can be beneficial to young people if it is properly used, it can assist in their learning and it can connect them with people globally. It is important that parents are monitoring what their children are doing online, to protect and to encourage them. It is important that young people are aware of the consequences that are a result of using digital media to ensure that they can avoid misusing this
