Literary Criticism and Insight on Pushkin
Pushkin is Russia’s greatest poets, in fact he is Russia’s national poet (Leatherbarrow, 368). He has influenced many writers after his time and still leaves an impression on his readers today. He is known for his underlying meaning and the truth that he writes. He was influenced by many writers who wrote before him, he used lessons they taught him in his writing (Mirsky, 78). Pushkin has been compared to many great writers before and after his time. He is a very talented writer and will never be forgotten. He used the Russian language effectively and made a huge impact on his readers. Although his poems were very hard to translate, he still became a very popular poet throughout Europe (Mirsky, 76).

Pushkin had “intelligent respect” for the Russian Intelligentsia and the Christian church. Both the Russian Intelligentsia and Pushkin were not religious. “Pushkin had no strong personal views on what was right and what was wrong in other people, but he has an almost uncanny knowledge of the moral laws that actually do govern this world of ours,” Pushkin used this in much of his writing (Mirsky, 72). Russian Intelligentsia has a respect for writers and their “craft” which was just like Pushkin because he did not think of the profession, but rather the “craft” which was used by many writers. “Pushkin was of another Russia than the literature of the intelligentsia; he belonged to another and to an essentially different age,” both Pushkin and Russian Intelligentsia both held very different views, but still had some type of similarities, such as, respect for religion, specifically the Christian church, and for the “craft” of certain writers (Mirsky, 72). There is a question of why Pushkin is the national poet of Russia, and the reason is because he wrote in Russian. This was important to Russia because it kept its cultural tradition in his writing. Pushkin’s writing is very different from any other language, the vocabulary and grammar are totally different. The vocabulary is so different that it is very hard to translate, which could mean that we may not understand fully what Pushkin was trying to express. Any Russian writer would be influenced by Pushkin’s writing, for example, Dostoyevsky, as much as an English writer would be influenced by Shakespeare. Pushkin is known for his beautiful writing, and that is a reason why is considered to be one of Russia’s greatest poets. “Pushkin civilization” was considered the “Golden Age of Petersburg,” although the many issues during this time, Pushkin was “never torn from his soil.” (Mirsky,
Through this we are able to see the importance of Vladimir’s transition to Christianity because the writers of the Chronicle portray the act of moving from paganism to Christianity as one of divine will rather than desires of the flesh. This justification of conversion allows the reader to understand the importance of statewide adaptation in the world of Christian Slavs. To further our understanding of the deep rooted awe felt towards Vladimir’s Christianization of Russia, the Chronicle allows the reader specific examples of divine miracles which illustrate the admiration Slavs felt towards the conversion of Russia. When Vladimir attacks the Greek city of Kherson, he and his armies are unsuccessful and become exhausted by the constant charge on the cities walls. Relief finally comes in the form of a man set on aiding the ever-persistent Vladimir.

The peasants of Russia were known to not be so intelligent when it came to reading or writing, which was also considered to be upon the majority of the population. According to the magazine article, “Education, Literacy, and the Russian Revolution”, Megan Behrent speaks about how the Russian Revolution changed Russia’s society in a positive way. Indeed, Dostoyevsky was raised in a religious home, "I descended from a pious Russian family . . . We, in our family, have known the gospel almost ever since our earliest childhood . . . Every visit to the Kremlin and the Moscow cathedral was, to me, something solemn." 3 He was certainly well acquainted with the contents of the Bible, as his devoted mother used only the Old and New Testament to teach her children to read and write. Dostoyevsky also recalled his favorite nurse in the context of the prayer she taught him, "I place all my hope in Thee, Mother of God preserve me under Thy protection." 4 Such a strong female association in his early childhood perhaps influe...
There is a quote by my favorite musical artist, Jhene Aiko, which says “What you create for you, no one can take from you. Your energy, love and your soul is all that goes wherever you go. Everything else don’t.” This strongly resonates with me because growing up, I never had a place where I felt I could fit into , I usually had to create one. From being the only hispanic in my entirely West African/German-American family to being the only boy who wanted to be in the drama club more than the sports teams. This obligation to create a place where I belonged, often came with many challenges and still does.
