Katherine Whitehorn once said, “Find out what you like doing best and get someone to pay you for doing it.” Katherine Whitehorn is referring to the thought of finding a job that a person enjoyed so much that it did not seem like a job at all. This is an goal that many people strive to achieve, but most of the time fail to achieve. Knowing this, I am making this my goal in life, and I will achieve this by pursuing a career the in the science field as a lab technician in a hospital. I made the decision to pursue a STEM degree because of the enjoyment I will feel waking up every single day.
A substantial part of the enjoyment that will come from pursuing a STEM degree is knowing it is something that I have always wanted to do since I was a young girl. When I was about 10 years old, I started to watch the Discovery Channel on television. These shows captured my attention and my love for science, and ultimately led me to want to pursue a career in the science field. Then, when I was a freshman in high school, I realized my true love of science from honors Biology and being introduced to the microscope. Now, three years later as a senior in high school, I am continuing my love of science by taking AP Biology. Throughout my life, my experiences have only strengthened my love and enjoyment in this field.

Another small but important part of the enjoyment that will come from pursuing a STEM degree is knowing that I will be bettering someone’s life through my work.
Being someone that wants to work at a hospital, the purpose and goal that I will have is to improve the life of every patient in the hospital. As a lab technician in the hospital lab, it will be my job to run the various tests on the hospital patients to determine vital information in order to treat them accordingly to increase their chances of survival. This feeling of being able to improve and better someone’s life is what will give me the feeling of enjoyment of being in this
career. The enjoyment that I will feel when working in the science field as a lab technician is what led me to pursue a STEM degree. Hundreds of different degrees and majors exist throughout all the colleges in the United States and abroad, and even though there are much fewer, there are still many STEM degrees that exist also. Many reasons exist for why people choose to pursue STEM degrees, but the only reason that I pay attention to is mine, which, stated by Confucius is, “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.”
Growing up, my parents stressed and lecture hard work and the importance to become a respected person in the STEM field. To be a doctor, lawyer, or pharmacist was the most important for them, to be able to glorify
...to communicate with your patient in order for them to be updated with their family’s sickness. And also have compassion towards them. You are likely to see a lot of injuries and scenarios play out among patients that have been admitted to the hospital. There are many achievements in this field that you may accomplish. And priorities that you have to deal with. For instants your time you have to adjust your schedule.

This job shadow taught me what I want to work for in the future. The part of the hospital I want to work in is the more fast paced part. Also that the nursing part of the hospital is intriguing to me and that is a profession that I am taking seriously for my future. I am extremely appreciative of the opportunity of getting to job
College is a place where people go to learn and to grow as a person. Most people go to college for the same reasons. They want to set a good foundation for getting a job, experience new things, or because their parents wanted them to. All of those reasons apply to me also.
careers in the field. Being open-minded may not be easy initially for students, but it can boost
Attending college is one of the greatest accomplishments of my life! After earning a high school diploma, I promised my mother I would earn a college degree. My mother would repeatedly say “earning a degree, working hard, and raising a family” were the pillars of life. Instead of following the “pillars of life” I decided to shake things up a little. She was astonished when I joined the United States Army. Now that I have retired from the United States Army after twenty years, it’s time to finally fulfill that promise. Obtaining a college degree will make a better life for me and my family. A better life sounds like a term that is used loosely in a crowded room full of broke people. A better life to one person can mean something totally different
...to see every patient feeling better but you know that some of them may not be cured. Also finding a job is not easy in this field.
Have you wondered what would be the best degree to have in your life? The STEM vs. Humanities argument is a decades-long debate, but in this new era, the answer is quickly becoming clear. The STEM field is rapidly growing, with new and innovative advances. STEM degrees are becoming increasingly useful for young adults, far ahead of humanities and liberal arts degrees. STEM majors make more money, are better employed, and are better educated and prepared for work. STEM graduates are making nearly $16,000 more than their liberal arts counterparts and are more likely to hold a full-time job. The job market for STEM fields is also favorable for young adults, with the unemployment rate of STEM majors being a full 1.6% lower than the unemployment
I have always been good at biology and mathematics. This is one reason why one of my many goals is to major in biomedical engineering. I am very excited to start studying biomedical sciences, and hope to use my newly learned skills in the medical field. Achieving a college education in such field will pave the road for my future career, by teaching and instilling knowledge that would not have been learned otherwise.
I was both excited and scared on my first day. I was curious about everything that I could see, smell and hear. I was excited because everything was new to me. The office was very quiet, all the physicians were concentrate on their work. Everything in the office was organized very well. The equipments were gleaming as they attracted me to touch. The smell of the ink was still dimly in the air. I got a little scared when I stepped into the hallway. It was really crowded, people seem very busy no matter if they were patients or physicians. People were everywhere. It was really easy to pump into someone. Rapid footsteps made flap sounds on the marble floor. The smell of the hospital special antiseptic solutions was very pungent. The call bells in the wards were very sharp, and they were coupled with the red lights in front of the wards and white walls. I had never felt more nervous before. I felt dazed because I had no idea what I could do, but this was piqued my fighting will more. Overall, I like this place. The department where I worked in was called the comprehensive internal medicine ward, and it also included a rheumatology clinic. Though I had volunteered in hospital for a very long time in school, I’ve never got a chance to get in the real business as a volunteer. So I was eager to learn everything. My instructor was a really person. He was near my father’s age, so he took care of me like his daughter....
I have always been intrigued by the field of science and that is the reason I pursued the field of Biochemistry for my undergraduate studies. How The Human body works and the different determinants that can affect one's health or a community as a whole have always been captivating to me. I wanted to emerge in a profession that is beneficial for me, my community, and the world I live in. I came to realize through various science courses and health care experiences that a career in health care was the best path for me to outreach my community and the world.
A liking for science, and a passion towards technology enabled me to choose Earth Science as a profession. From a very younger age I became very passionate about the day to day marvels of science happened around this curiosity of mine eventually was discovered by my teachers and to have a better understanding on every day science I took science subjects in my O and A levels.
As for science, I have always had a passion for it, always been interested in finding solutions to problems. Whether that be STEM related, people related or otherwise. You give me a problem, most of the time ill attempt to d...
For me, Biology is a subject that is fascinating. It is so complex, but its applications and ability to help people are huge. It has enabled me to develop my holistic perspective of the natural world and furthered my interest in it and its ecosystems. Studying Biology and Chemistry at A-level has helped me develop a critical, analytical mind-set. This has helped me understand and interpret complex scientific concepts and theories, while also allowing me to notice errors and improvements that could be made in experiments and theories.
