At the start of the semester, my oblivious state of nature associating with the Chinese culture reached an unacceptable level. Implementing a necessary change, I decided to educate myself on different cultures starting with China. I failed to ponder that such a rich, deep culture existed outside America. Encompassed by this country’s unique yet suffocating melting pot culture, my outlook believed ideas such as uniformity between American Chinese food and Authentic Chinese food. After this course, my bigot perspective widened as I witnessed diversity in the world. Before this class, when I thought of Chinese food, my connotation jumped to thoughts associated with chop suey, but as I progressed my education, my mindset gradually pondered foods like steamed buns or “New Year Cakes” with authentic Chinese food.
One benefit of college is that you will have better self-discipline after you get out of college. This is true because people who don’t go to college only have a high school education in which they babied you to get you through. College allows people to grow and develop into more mature people. Once you have matured from college you realize you have to prioritize your life. Having a higher level of education will make you stand out on an application; if it is you and someone without a college education
As I thought of this article, many of the issues I have faced as a single Hmong woman in her mid-twenties came to mind. Should I discuss the functional reasons why marriage is so important in the Hmong culture, especially for women? Or do I talk about the lack of eligible, older Hmong men? Better yet, should I complain about the attempts by my relatives to find me a good husband as if it were an unfortunate circumstance that I was single instead of a conscious choice? Thinking it over, though, I decided that all those questions boiled down to one fundamental truth – the Hmong community is still trying to learn how to treat the increasing number of Hmong women who, like me, are making the choice to stay single in their mid-twenties.
As the former president of Harvard University, Derek Bok wrote “The most obvious purpose of college education is to help students acquire information and knowledge by acquainting them with facts, theories, generalizations, principles, and the like. This purpose scarcely requires justification.” America needs educated citizens to help maintain the level of intelligence we have in society. Students need to be taught to their specific career and the knowledge needed in that career. Though education students are strengthened for their futures as good citizens. Getting a degree in a college is not as simple as I thought. Since the difficulty to get a right education for my degree, depends on whether I know my obstacles or not. During my childhood I wanted to be a doctor; my teens, a veterinarian. Now that I’m soon to finish high school, I’ve decided I want to be an animator. Animation has been around since the beginning of 1900s, there are a variety of animation styles which make it more interesting. Since I want to pursue a career in animation, I will start with a graphic design degree. It will help me start a foundation with drawing and using the software used by animators. Drawing is a necessity for animation. Though I’m bad at it, I finally have the motivation to practice. I love animation, and have a burning passion to start learning how to animate.

The creators of such amazing arts and creation are animators.
My college life began with a mandatory meeting for all the filmmaking students of the campus. However, as a student whose concentration is animation, I understand animation as a unique form of art that is different from filmmaking. Unlike filmmaking, everything in an animation is made of the animator’s intention. For instance, the shape of clouds represented in a film mostly depends on the mother nature. But in an animation, the clouds are designed only by people who are making it.
