Andrea, Thank you for emailing me! Below are my answers to the questions you presented. What are your goals for the course? My goal is to expand my vocabulary as well as my grammar. *What are some of the challenges you expect to encounter as you pursue your goals? I feel like my main challenge will be grammar and expressing my thoughts and ideas in a clear and concise manner. English is my second language and I’m definitely not as proficient as I would like to be. *What kind of learner are you? I consider myself a tactile learner. I like interaction and the opportunity to try doing things myself. *Describe a time when you received feedback that helped you grow. I appreciate when someone tells me what I am doing wrong and how to fix it.
As my high school career ends, I notice increasingly how much life that I have yet to live and the opportunities available to me in the years ahead. The past four years have been great preparation for my future endeavors, but college is the path leading to my full potential. In order to reach the end of this path, I utilize my most valuable trait—determination—to set short and long-term goals and achieve them. It is with this “can do” spirit—like the one my grandpa, a former Navy Seabee, evinces through his stories—that I have set my personal goals: to volunteer my time in service to others, further develop leadership skills through experiential learning, and excel at my school work no matter how challenging it may seem. Though these may be difficult to maintain, I have faith that my optimistic attitude will enable me to prevail over the challenges I am certain to face.
As a student in her sophomore year, I am still learning about what I can do and what I want to do. Although I am young, my mother always told me that it is never too early to start thinking about the future, which is why it is an honor to be able to apply for the membership of being part of National Honor Society. I have always loved challenges no matter what the result because nothing is equal to the experience of trying. I take the things I have learned from my past experiences and use them as a guide to help me in the future. I haven't ever once stopped to give up if I encountered an obstacle, but rather embraced it and thought of ways to overcome them.
There would be challenges, for sure. But I was ready. I was ready to learn and do whatever I had to to ensure I was a foundation for others. ================
I am a very hand on type of learner. I understand and remember much easier if I physically do it. I am one to never sit still for too long. I am a visual person I can remember things more if I see it over and over again. When taking a test I try to close my eyes and visualize what part of the book I saw that question and what was going on at the time to help. When I study or do my work I have to work for a little bit then get up and walk around do something else then refocused on my work. I am a person that touches it and can turn it this way or that, take it apart and put it back together I understand and learn it more. There is always so adventure to go on or something to do, fix, learn, or even just go for a
“Never underestimate your own strength. You were born for a purpose and are blessed with the power to achieve it” (Leon Brown). I have this quote printed out and on the wall next to my door so I can see it every day as a reminder to myself. I believe that we all have a purpose on this earth and that everything we go through on the journey there has a reason whether to teach a lesson or set an example. We have places where we want to end up and goals we want to achieve. We set these goals and dreams to help us fulfill the purpose we see for ourselves. I believe my purpose is to help people in their times of need. To fulfill my purpose, I will need to use my personal, academic and career goals to create a pathway to get to where I want to be
Learning is an amazing aspect that numerous people are interested in and some people aren’t interested at all. Tactile learning is a way people learn and some people judge the people that learn that way. These days people ¨ Oh she is just like me.¨ but some people need to learn to stop corrupting people around them when those people have a perfectly equal personality inside them already. If people dislike others for who they are, then they should find someone that has something in common with them and learn to accept the entire person inside and out of them. Tactile learning is hands-on and that is a great way to study something. Studying hands-on with something is a way that you should learn to study something. For example rocks to learn why they are rough, smooth, hard, etc. Learning is something that people aim for in life and if someone doesn’t crave to learn I feel horrible for them since they might not succeed in
Overall, I believe I have a lot to learn. I also think that with guidance and practice, using the techniques and skills such as verbal tracking, reflection, summarizing, and open/closed question, among others, will help me move towards my goal of becoming an effective and competent
I hate to shop. I do not use that word lightly either. I had probably rather clean out my closet than go shopping. My mom always did the shopping around my house while I was growing up.
I learned that I am a visual learner and tactile learner (both have the same total) and that true, I like to work with my hands then actually type or write an essay, as I get instruction for a project, I like the teacher to explain on the board then talking and talking in class, I like taking notes to understand. I understand more if I highlight or underline important fact, that is why my work is all kinds of colour.
Currently, my lifetime goals are to finish high school with excellent grades, attend Texas A&M university with a degree in Construction Science or Industrial Distribution, work at Pine Cove Christian camp as a camp counselor at least one or two summers, get an interesting internship, land a satisfying first job with a reputable company, and then start my own business. In my personal life, I want to marry the girl of my dreams and start a family. I want my wife and I to raise our children in a positive, happy, Christian environment attending magnitudes of Aggie football games. Meanwhile, always keeping my focus on my faith and creator. Without Him nothing is possible.
The opportunities I have taken advantage of in my college career have challenged me to think about my future goals. When I entered college, I was determined to teach
After nineteen years of living in a small town named Wasco, known by most for the prison, I moved to Long Beach. I grew up in a strict religion that discouraged questioning and required extreme dedication towards servitude of God. Attending college was discouraged by my parents and the church, as it took away from time spent towards serving God. Living in Wasco was my own prison. Moving to Long Beach meant freedom to me where I was finally able to stretch my constrained, clipped wings. Suddenly, the simplest of questions, for some, such as "What do I want to be?" and "Who am I?" plagued my mind. These answers should be easy to answer and yet, I didn't know the answers. I found myself in the most diverse of cities and my head filled with questions that would spark the most intriguing answers. I learned that who I am encompassed a passion and hunger towards helping others, choosing a major that allowed me to utilize the skills of love, caring, and patience, and an aspiration to achieve my educational goals despite financial hardship.
Many people tend to set goals. They can set goals for their personal life, academics, or even for their professional lives. You can literally set a goal for pretty much anything you can imagine. I believe that people should set goals, they help you stay focused and want to do better for the future. Goals change all of the time though, because of a lot of different reasons, maybe you found that one thing just really is not what you want to do with your life, so you find something else to do. To me that is just how life is, my goals will most likely change as I am getting older and trying to find what I want to do with the rest of my life.
In conclusion, auditory learners prefer to learn things visually; they prefer to listen to instructions. Kinesthetic learners rather touch and feel what they are doing. A teacher should evaluate her classroom to see what kind of learners she has in her classroom to be more a more effective teacher. Since in educational psychology there are many branches of psychology that are used to determine learning within the classroom.
What challenges do you anticipate on this program, and how do you plan to overcome them?
