Public transport become one of core topic while contributing a livable society. However, people tend to highly dependent on car, which is not only means of transport but also play an essential role in society such as sense of superiority and power (Steg, 2005). Accessibility tends to become the focus of transport planning (Morris, Dumble & Wigan, 1978). This essay will analysis the problems bought by shortage of public transport occurs in Mernda in terms of low accessible and higher car dependency. Then will point out solution to improve the public transportation to achieve livability by looking at the policy that was implemented in metro and state.
Mernda has a shortage of public transportation which currently only has bus. Few bus stops

The car dependency will tends to become relatively higher. In order to achieve sufficient access, people in Mernda have tendency to choose private car as their major transport to access the place. However, increasing private car use resulted in various environmental and social problems. For the environmental aspect, higher car dependency will increase the green house gas emissions as well as the toxic and harmful substances (STEG, 2013). It will contributes to global warming and other environmental problems such as smog and acid precipitation (STEG, 2013). With the limited capacity of the road network, higher car dependency will result in congestion (Jefferson, 1996 ). Therefore, the extension of road infrastructure was needed. However, in order to built a new road, the natural environment will be interrupted. In another word, it will ‘…cause distortion and fragmentation of natural areas’, and it will affect the natural habitat (STEG 2013, 27). Moreover, rare raw materials are used to produce cars and scarce energy are required to use cars (STEG, 2013). With the large demand for car, the problem of natural sources shortage will be further …show more content…
Tram system was extended from the Melbourne central to all direction (City of Melbouren, 2015 & figure 3). Compare to Mernda, it is easier for people to get around. Moreover, Each tram station well connected with completed facilities, such as lighting, shelter for sitting or waiting and adequate information. Furthermore, extensive train and buses are also offering a comprehensive and connected public transport system (City of Melbouren, 2015). Transport connectivity in Melbourne tends to increase the willingness to pay for public transport rather than car (McDougall & Maharaj, 2011). According to Australian Bureau of Statistics (2011), the usage of public transport in Melbouren is much more higher than that in Mernda (Chart 1). It mainly because of public transport in Mernda runs slower than car and infrequently, and also is inconvenient to use. However, car dependency in Melbourne was reduced by the public transport, which made the trip become shorter and quicker ( McDougall & Maharaj,
Automobiles play a major role in today's society. Almost every American owns at least one motorized transportation vehicle. Some say they make our lives better by reaching places faster than before. Others say they are a harmful to the environment. Have they made our society better or worse? They may be fast, but do we as humans want our environment to suffer because of time. Face it, cars pollute. And they release destructive chemicals into the air. Air pollution can threaten the health of many subjects in the environment including human beings.
“The automobile has created a dependence, society couldn't live without automobiles because mass transit systems” (Negative Impact of the Automobile 5). Apart from creating a dependence on the automobile, traffic congestion, air pollution and fatal casualties increased with the increasing number of automobiles on the road.
Public transportation is provided by the Sydney bus system, which is used by many work commuters back and forth to and from the CBD. Other residents like to make the drive to and from work.
The invention of the automobile in the early 20th century has had an adverse affect on our environment. Our society has used technology in order to advance the automobile to make it better and more efficient. The automobile industry knows what sells and they take advantage of that. With this growing technology to advance automobiles also comes flaws. The biggest and most obvious flaw is pollution. Because of pollution, we find ourselves asking the question of whether this technology has helped our society more than it has hurt it.
In fact, most documents and government websites relating to transport in Australia capital cities are all very similar in intent and in the ideas presented. This makes sense as while not identical in structure Australian cities share the common feature of the public being heavily reliant on private transport vehicles. This is due to Australian cities being really spread-out in urban sprawl which leaves transit system like buses and train, which can’t be used to travel directly to anyone location, at a disadvantage. One solution to this problem, one that a number of Australian cities have already began to adopt, is to adopt a more European transport infrastructure approach, meaning higher density land use zones and more diverse transit routes (Mees, P., 2000). As discussed above Adelaide’s plan to create a more reliable public transport system involves promoting safe cleaner stop stations, expanding existing routes and investing for higher quality.
Public transportation is an essential part of a city. A good public transit can encourage a city’s economic activities and can provide its citizen a convenient life. Does our Phoenix public transit work well? Does it provide sufficient service to the citizen? From my experience, the answer is no. This November I tried to attend the popular State Fair in Phoenix. However, I found that there were not any buses or metros could take me to the fair directly. It means I need 2 hours or more spend on the public transits. As the sixth most populous city nationwide (“Phoenix Quick Fact” 1), compared with Los Angeles and other big cities in America, Phoenix’s public transportation is indeed subpar. Due to Los Angeles has 154 bus lines and 30 metros (“Schedule”), New York has 316 bus lines and 28 subways(“Maps & Timetables”), while Phoenix only has 98 bus lines, and the number of metro line is only one! (“Route Schedules & Maps”) The problem is
Indeed, many global cities face compelling urban planning issues like urban sprawl, population, low density development, overuse of non-renewable natural recourses, social inequities and environmental degradation. These issues affect the cities themselves, the adjacent regions and often even globally. The resulting ecological footprint upsets the balance in adjacent rural and natural areas. Unplanned or organic development leads to urban sprawl, traffic problems, pollution and slums (as evident in the case of Mumbai city). Such unplanned development causes solid waste management and water supply to fall inadequate. Urban sprawl gives rise to low density development and car dependent communities, consequently leading to increased urban flooding, low energy efficiency, longer travel time and destruction of croplands, forests and open spaces for development.
With the development of urbanization, an increasing number of social problems have emerged. These problems will decelerate the urban development, however, there are many ways in which sustainable development can reduce the impact of these urbanization problems. “Sustainable development seeks to improve the quality of human life without undermining the quality of our natural environment” (Adams, W.M. 1999). Actually, sustainable development can partly solve the urbanization problems, for it can reduce the impact of the problems such as traffic jam, housing shortage and severe pollution, but it is difficult to completely solve these problems in a short time.
Most of cities that people live are sequentially growing, daily routine of many people are also adapted for surrounding in the present. A lot of people have to spend most of their time with travelling though long distances to get from one place to another for connecting their businesses or other purposes by transportation. Most people use public transportation such as BTS and MRT to go each places while many people are using their own cars to travel. Thereby, both transportations have the same destination that is taking and moving people. People can choose vehicles from alter reasons depend on how people are responded to their needs by public transportation and private car that are different in convenience of travelling, expenditure of money and security of travel.
Both of the two auto vehicles are brought into the human industry as the use of benefit students’ lives become more convenient traveler. In commons, the two automobile created opportunities jobs in the economic companies’ nation. Plus, several students did not noticed that both cars and public transportation have one major similar concept where two of the transit vehicle produce environmental pollution, traffic congestion, and oil consumption problems. Encounter, the public transportation and cars can cause a huge impact to the environmental which it can lead human health problems. Mostly, both of the automobile still release noxious gases into the air, and over time the built up can change the environment global warming to like an unhealthy

If you use public transport you spend on your journey as and when you need to travel, whereas if you own a car you are paying for it all the time, even if you are not using it, as insurance, tax and MOTs need constantly maintaining.
Most people take the urban public transportation system for granted. It is used in every aspect of our daily lives: work, education, medical necessities, recreation, etc. It is also important for the transportation of goods and services, which aids the growth and maintenance of our economy. Urban public transportation is the critical component of our quality of life and economic stability. The MBTA, the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority, is Boston and Eastern Massachusetts’s major transportation service.
We all use vehicles for transportation. People usually go to their desired destination either by driving their own cars or traveling in public transportation. Actually, it might be tough to choose that which one is the best selection for people to travel. Many people choose one of them according to their comfort while traveling and both of them have advantages and disadvantages in different conditions. Public transportation and driving own car both shares differences and similarities in many aspects, such as facility, cost, and comfort as well as traffic jam and accident occurrence.
In conclusion, we can see that rail transport in Malaysia is very need the improvement from the trip ratio for transportation on current scenario compared to the target scenario in Peninsular Malaysia based on Figure 1 results. For next chapter, we will have a discussion about the relationship between factor influence and social behavior towards the railway transportation. Moreover, we have to find out some more reasons why people do not chosen railway transport as their movement
