Public Transport and Private Car
Most of cities that people live are sequentially growing, daily routine of many people are also adapted for surrounding in the present. A lot of people have to spend most of their time with travelling though long distances to get from one place to another for connecting their businesses or other purposes by transportation. Most people use public transportation such as BTS and MRT to go each places while many people are using their own cars to travel. Thereby, both transportations have the same destination that is taking and moving people. People can choose vehicles from alter reasons depend on how people are responded to their needs by public transportation and private car that are different in convenience of travelling, expenditure of money and security of travel.
First of the difference between public transportation and private car is convenience in travel. There are many type of transportations that people can choose to travelling such as bus and van. People can save time to go work in morning and to back when they finished working. Even though, people have to go to work in a crowded bus, people can avoid and also less traffic jams from using their own car on the road. If they go to work or somewhere by private car, they will get serious when they get stick in their car for a long time. People do not have to find parking when they go out to work or shopping. Moreover, public transportation saves environment because it helps people decrease air pollution from using private car.

In contrast, private cars, it has more flexible, comfortable and more safe although it is also more expensive than public transport, private car is still be a choice for people. These considerably differences between public transport and private car will become to suitable options if people are deciding to choose vehicles for responding their demand in the travel.

In the July 1997 issue of Commentary, James Q. Wilson challenges the consensus among academia’s finest regarding the automobile in his bold article, Cars and Their Enemies. Directed towards the general public, his article discredits many of the supposed negatives of the automobile raised by experts, proves that the personal car is thriving and will continue to thrive because it meets individual preference over other means of transportation, as well as presents solutions to the social costs of cars. Wilson emphasizes that no matter what is said and done in eliminating the social costs of the automobile, experts are not going to stop campaigning against it.
“The automobile has created a dependence, society couldn't live without automobiles because mass transit systems” (Negative Impact of the Automobile 5). Apart from creating a dependence on the automobile, traffic congestion, air pollution and fatal casualties increased with the increasing number of automobiles on the road.
Transportation systems are what support the high levels of accumulation and concentration within cities. The bigger the city, the more complex its urban problems are if not properly managed. The largest transportation problems occur when public transportation systems fail to fulfill the many requirements of urban mobility. Urban efficiency is highly dependent on its transportation systems to move consumers, labor, and goods from one point to another. The most outstanding urban transportation issues in the United States are: traffic congestion, longer commuting, inadequacy of public transport, green transportation difficulty, and good distribution (Rodrigue).
Los Angeles, California is known worldwide to be a city designed specifically for the use of automobiles. Since Los Angeles County is so expansive, is considered to be one of the largest cities in the U.S and the World. The Government decided to accommodate its landscape very efficiently through the use of freeways by connecting each other from far distances into one by the use of intersections. On the other hand, since the landscape of Los Angeles was made specifically for cars, it has a horrible public transportation that people see car as a necessity rather than luxury. The government has done a magnificent job keeping
Before cars, people traveled by carriages, horses, streetcars and bicycles. These methods of transportation were not as effective as the car, so transportation over long distances was not entirely facilitated. This is why the innovation of the automobile was so important to the creation of suburbs and other areas of living outside the city. Transportation was facilitated and citizens could finally afford to leave the dirty and crowded city and commute from their quiet country homes outside of the mess of people and disease. Since World War II, cars have entirely reshaped cities and their near suburbs dramatically (Chafe). The automobile industry, mainly due to cars, has not only replaced the rail service that existed prior, and a great deal of the pedestrian popularity, but this industry has also strongly influenced the growth of inner city areas lacking in any type of transportation service. In the past, rails connected urban cores directly with their outskirts and suburbs before the invention of automobiles. In the past, city streets had generally followed the patterns of the streetcars as well as transportation routes and roads before them, however, it was just a matter of time before cars outgrew the capacity of the old routes. A journalist from
Trains provided a comfortable and reliable way to travel with its dining rooms and beds which made it perfect to travel long distance. Trains also provided the people with a quick trip without breaking the bank. The car was now finally affordable and people felt proud that they could afford one with their average work. The car gave mostly everyone a chance to explore the country and even take their families with them. But now, a whole new way of travel that no one thought of before was now becoming a reality.
A method used consistently has had some form of qualitative, empirical research and sometimes combined with quantitative data from surveys. I believe this was to help identify underlying complex factors. Yet, the articles don’t explore explicitly how these attitudes, preferences and choices are made. Consequently, referring to books written for transportation policies and problems surrounding this transport mode became necessary to understanding these
For formulating a more efficient transport pattern, there are some specific strategies. Firstly, government can encourage people to pay more attention to public transit. The actual data about transit use from most cities indicates that transit use is growing in many cities, in addition, some developed cities have been reducing their car use and pay more attention to the public transport (Newman, 1999). Encouraging urban citizens use more public transit is effective in reducing the quantity of private cars. It is generally known that private cars have brought great pressure on urban traffic. Secondly, government can restrict cars based on the “odd-and-even l...
Should students take advantage of the public transportation more seriously than owning a car? The public transportation can solves to numerous problems; the bus transportation can be a universal antidote for bigger issues such as global warming. By taking the bus can save students’ time and money, rather than students who have a car have deal with traffic and expensive parking fee. Students who own a car might experience sitting in such a long traffic, where during the traffic cars may produce noxious gases relieving particle of air that can contribute the affect to human health. The public transportation is the best solution for an enormous population of students, so students’ needs to get on the transit a try. The transition system in the
The development of urban transportation has not changed with the cities; cities have changed with transportation. This chapter offers an insight into the Past and the future of Urban transportation and is split up into a number of different sections. It includes a timeline of the different forms of transport innovations, starting from the earliest stages of urban transport, dating back to the omnibus (the first type of urban transportation) and working in a chronological order until eventually reaching the automobile. However, these changes in Urban transport did not happen for no reason. Different factors within society meant urban transport needed to evolve; points will be made on why society needed this evolution. In contrast I will observe the problems urban transport has caused in society as a result of its rapid progression. Taking account of both arguments for the evolution of urban transport, I will look at where it will go in the future.
In this article we are going to look at public transport via the private vehicle. There are advantages and disadvantages to both, yet routine and personal circumstances will often define which is the most appropriate to your lifestyle.
First of all, the difference is in the facility or convenience. Travelling on public transport could be a waste of time due to waiting for the bus especially in the rush hours’ time. It is quite hard to wait for a bus and whenever there is an urgent work and you have to reach somewhere in a hurry, you might get late due to waiting for a long period. In contrast to traveling on public transportation, driving your own car is more convenient and reliable. People can start their car and can go to anywhere that want without any wait or suffering from different kinds of problems. Going to an event or meeting can be helpful in your own car as compare to public transport as it can affect your personality.
Contemporary Event: Traffic &. Economies thrive on the ability to adapt to mobility. Mobility allows people to go to work, attend school and travel far and wide by using some form of transportation. It allows people and ideas to mix more freely. Over time, mobility has taken many forms, from the backs of animals, to carriages and now the automobile.
In conclusion, we can see that rail transport in Malaysia is very need the improvement from the trip ratio for transportation on current scenario compared to the target scenario in Peninsular Malaysia based on Figure 1 results. For next chapter, we will have a discussion about the relationship between factor influence and social behavior towards the railway transportation. Moreover, we have to find out some more reasons why people do not chosen railway transport as their movement
The most important reason why ownership of private vehicles should not be banned is that vehicles are an essential part of modern city living. Without vehicles, a lot of inconveniences will occur. For example, people would be forced to walk quite a distance to school, in the case of students, or to other places. They need to go through the hassle of waiting for and using public transport. This can be quite the problem in rural areas where public transport is unreliable at best and can even be non-existent. According to (Jong Gatoona 2010), One reason people avoid public transport is that it wastes valuable time. When it comes to going somewhere, public transit will in most cases take more time to reach the desired destination when compared to driving there. For example, 30-40 minutes of driving will instead take 45-65 minutes when public transit is used. This estimate of course does not factor the time taken waiting for vehicles to arrive i...
