In Coercion, Douglas Rushkoff explains how easily people are easily coerced. For example, Rushkoff states that people are convinced by car salesman to pay more for a car than they wanted to. In Julius Caesar, Marc Antony asks to speak at the funeral of his dear friend, Julius Caesar, after one of the murderers, Brutus, speaks. Brutus convinces the Romans that Caesar would be a tyrant if he did not murder him, while Antony convinces the Romans that Caesar is not ambitious and there would never be another ruler like Caesar. While watching my video I did notice that I was able to understand and clearly know what the main point was. I spoke in a clear and a tone loud enough for everyone to hear. The speech was organized very well, so one idea or thought flowed to the next. I don’t think I need to change anything in regards to my central idea being clear. I was satisfied with that part of the speech.

At the beginning of the semester our class was introduced to a new term, listenability. The level of listenability is at the mercy of the speaker, not of the audience. During our semester, we were taught to harness the listenability keys of strategy, structure, support, and style in order to achieve a high level of listenability. Examples of listenability include when a speaker engages the audience by asking questions, using narratives or stories that people can relate to, and has stimulating visual support and content. These are only a couple of keys used to create a listener centered speech.
Over the recent four months in Communication 1402 class, I have addressed three formal speechs and completed a number of chapters in the corresponding textbook “Communication Works”. This course of Communication aims to provide general information what public speaking is and how to address a public speaking. Recalling back the experience during the processes of completing the Speech to Imform, Speech to Persuade, and Group Presentation, I will draw a conclusion about this course and these three presentations in five aspects, comprising my previous perception of public speaking before this course; learning from the Speech to Inform; the goal and evaluation of Speech to Persuade; learning from the Group Presentation; the most important thing learned from this course.
The main topic developed throughout this chapter is the importance of organizing while we give a speech. First, the general definition of organizing is exposed, stating that although we may have identified the principal points in our speech. And have the three parts every speech should have (introduction, body and conclusion). Many times the way we express our ideas can make listeners confuse about what they are listening to, not knowing the timeline of what was explained; and therefore, not getting a full understanding on the topic. After that, several useful recommendations are given: how to choose the main points we are going to develop, write a clear and concise thesis statement (which should state our specific goals for giving the speech), how to create a decent

Good informative speeches contain several different scholarly source citations throughout the speech. To show that the information you present is accurate these sources should be up-to-date, reliable, unbiased, and directly related to the topic of choice. Even if you plan to give a speech about an activity you have done all of your life, you will still need to seek out additional sources for your speech. Doing this will show that it’s not just coming from the information you’ve learned and been experiences with, but also from other professionals studying that topic as well.

After observing and comparing all the charts above, I have come to the realization that every single speaker shared a personal story or thoughts of their own on how they view things. It varies from, being in jail, getting arrested for being against violence, having psychopaths in the family, coming from poverty to being a ballerina, and so on. The speakers all share this for a specific reason. The stories and thoughts they share have significance and play an important part to the speech. Personal experiences, stories, and thoughts are shared with the audience to create a connection between the speaker and the audience.
