Just like Richard Rodriguez one can have struggles with school and home, for instance at home one is taught to speak their mind, told that everyone will understand. At home formal does not exist; serious and organized is an option. Yet at school one must learn to think before speaking, to raise your hand and to make sure you sound just like everyone else. At school one is taught to not make a fool out of themselves, to be serious and formal to be just like everybody else. But yet again as a student, although one has been taught to be like everyone else, one can still feel like an outsider, like Rodriguez describes you still don’t fit in. In psychology there are six modern psychological perspectives. These perspectives are behavioral, psychodynamic, humanistic, cognitive, sociocultural, and biological. Each perspective has its own unique way of explaining the human behavior. I believe to truly explain the complex mental processes and behavior, each perspective must be examined, not limited to just one. The following is my explanation and comparisons between two of these perspectives: psychodynamic and behavioral.
System Theory was developed in the 19th century. It was developed to explain historical development as dynamic process. This theory uses a complex system to explore the behavior patterns that humans experience. System psychology focuses on affective, motivational, cognitive and group behavioral patterns. Systems theory in therapy applies to a group setting like couples, organizations, or families. Systems therapy identifies specific behavior patterns within the group and how each member will respond to anxiety within the dynamic. The value of the system theory is by using the people involved will change their behavior patterns to more productive behaviors (Goodtherapy.org, 2017). By changing their behaviors he or she will stop using the behaviors that are causing problems in his or her life.
The theory our learning team is studying is the psychodynamic approach or what is sometimes called psychoanalytic approach. The main contributors to Psychodynamic approaches was the founder Sigmund Freud (1859-1939), Anna Freud (1895-1982) gave significant contribution to the psychodynamics of adolescence and Erik Erickson (1902-1994) called the “new” Freud but with an emphasis on ego (conscious) forces, termed as psychosocial theory (Craig & Dunn, p 11-13). Psychodynamics is the explanation or interpretation (as of behavior or mental states) in terms of mental or emotional forces or processes (www.merriam-webster.com)
Imagine being alone with no friends and no one to talk to. Now, place yourself in a location where you are surrounded by closed tight-knit groups where acceptance from those groups is a challenge to obtain. Then, picture yourself back when you were in high school, but this time, apply the image you have created for yourself. Do you wish for acceptance? Or friendship? Do you feel confident in taking the challenges that high school will bring? High school has a significant impact on an individual’s development. Whether it is their personality or behavior, an individual who goes through high school can see changes in their characteristics. A common stereotype in high school that is largely portrayed in the media is the existence of cliques. Cliques can give an individual a sense of belonging or a sense of betrayal. These two behaviors are commonly seen with the acceptance or rejection from these groups. An immediate result from these two actions is a change in morale or confidence for that individual. Cliques exist in high school due to individual conformity. An individual conforms to the group in order to feel accepted or to feel secured. Groups or cliques in high school have a significant negative effect on an individual’s development of characteristic and personality and the reasons as to why individuals join these types are not justified.

I couldn’t express my viewpoints to faculty members like I do now in college. For instance, in college when I need help in a certain class, I can just go and talk to the professor or even to my counselor. Unfortunately, in grammar school, I didn’t know how to talk about the situation. As a result, in college I have been determined to change my study habits and take back control of my identity because I see how a student cannot survive with inefficient study habits. I realize now that, as a child, I was disadvantaged in many ways. Today, I have to be prepared to do extra to make up for a poor educational background by spending more time studying, focusing on school, and controlling my life.
The Civil Rights Movement was a difficult but necessary time of change in America. In 1963 Daisy Bates, President of the Arkansas chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People said “More than any other single event in many years, Little Rock demonstrated the gaping discrepancy between the Declaration of Independence, one of the most precious documents of American history, and the reality of twentieth century America… The impact on Americans and on the world was one of Little Rock’s historical contributions to the over- all crusade for rights and dignity.” Our county was built on equality but to this day we continue the crusade for it, racially, sexually, religiously, etc. It takes courage to change and the Little Rock Nine embodied that.
I arrived at Sacred Heart Cathedral for my first day of high school. As my friend’s mom drove through the populous streets of San Francisco, I sat in the back seat of her car running through the pages of the planner I had received at orientation. As the thick, smooth pages ran through my fingers, I worried over finding my classes, being on time to my classes, and having time to out my books in my locker. I found the page dated August 24th, my first day of high school. I had all six classes that day, French, English, Honors Algebra, Physics, World History, and lastly Scripture.
To further more for a better understanding, I will explain the Bronfenbrenner 's Ecological systems model and how each level help in forming our human development. The ecological system model is a five different level model that contains people, places, and things that is believed to help a person 's develop in life. The first level is known as microsystem. The microsystem is the system that contains the closest and direct contact to a person, such as family, friends, school/work, and church. For example, my microsystem would consist of my home and work. At home, I tend to interact more with my parents and siblings. At work, I 'm more interactive with my boss, co-workers and the customers. Secondly, the next level of the ecological system is the mesosystem. The mesosystem consists of interaction between the different parts in the microsystem. For example, back in 8th grade I attended a catholic school. I had a nun as teacher and her name was Sister Anna. She was a very caring and loving teacher. I wasn 't a bad student, I just had bad habits. I tended to not do my homework while I was home, instead I rushed to do it in the morning before class. Sometimes I would finish in time and other times I would not. She would always ask why didn 't I do my homework at home and I would simply not know. So her and my parents sat down together to agree for me to stay with her after school to

In this theory, changing one’s behavior is a process that someone wants to do due to relationships encountered with people over their lifetimes. It is a rational theory that shows when new bonds are formed, people can adapt to change and lead a conforming lifestyle in society.

The design of the intervention program for loneliness and bullying that I thought of would be towards middle schools. First, in the textbook, it states that there are two types of kids that are in loneliness. The first type of is that the person is rejected from society or people because they cannot avoid conflict. This creates chaos and problematic with others. Because of this, an idea that may be put in the program can illustrate to students about how important it is to keep harmony among others. For instance, presenters can show an example through a clip or have students prepared for the act. Students can then take a quiz based on the information. The quiz includes questions such as what the student will do in certain situations to avoid conflict. This will help students to realize what they should do and shouldn't do.
