Whether or not psychic abilities are in fact real or not, they are with no doubt, fascinating. Being able to predict what is going to happen or being able to know what someone is thinking would be absolutely incredible. Powers like these have been talked about for hundreds of years. Proving whether or not abilities like these are real can be so difficult because there are so many different types of abilities. No single experiment has yet been able to prove psychic abilities to be factual, so there is no real answer to whether or not psychic abilities are real or just a sham. Before anyone can form a solid opinion on what they believe to be real or not real, it is imperative that he/she becomes knowledgeable on the many different types of …show more content…
As late as the seventeenth and eighteenth century, psychics were still believed to be witches and were put to death by the church. This is ironic because a huge majority of psychics today identify as religious and believe in God. Many experiences with psychics and mediums can be heard are almost unbelievable. An example is when a medium was reading a woman when suddenly a man appeared next to the woman and showed the number five to the medium. The medium told the woman of this. The woman was extremely taken by surprise and immediately took out a photo of her father. Written on the back of the photo: "Dad, if it's really you, say the number five". Experiences like this one is what keeps people believing in psychic abilities and the supernatural. It is also believed by some people that all humans act as "mediums" for the transmission of thoughts and impulses origination in minds of others. All humans live in the world as a great whole. Certain types of megalomania, or exaggerated egotism, are often accompanied by psychic lesions where the sufferer imagines that he/she is being led to the performance of great deeds by some angelic guide. These patients are said to be "clairvoyant". Some explanations for telekinesis include that it is the psychics astral limbs extending out and lifting objects; that it is some frolicsome nature …show more content…
There are dozens of different types and each has specific details that play a huge role. Trying to prove psychic powers to be real will continue throughout the years and will always fascinate people. But for now, because of the several failed experiments, psychic abilities can be said to be real or unreal. No matter the opinion of any person, everyone can believe what they wish about the subject whether it is scientific fact or not.

Like clairvoyance, clairsentience, etc. mediumship is a spiritual gift. Most mediums are born with genetic psychic abilities. This gift ‘awakens’ in others, as small children. It can be a difficult life for kids who talk to spirits, when they grow-up in a strict religious environment.

Several eyewitnesses have had experiences with the afterlife that can be proven to be real. Zak Bagans, the famous ghost hunter professional from Ghost Adventures, thinks that the paranormal is real. As Bagans remarks,“I never

Sensing – Focus on target truths and circumstances as saw by the faculties (seeing, feeling, hearing). Fantastic forces of perception. Manage how things are instead of on how they could be. Lean toward clear, unmistakable information. Practical, exact with attention on utility and exacting elucidation. Need to handle all the certainties before endeavoring to get it. Experience issues accepting or depending on something without tangible confirmation. Will depend on past experience when taking care of issues.
This investigation into the paranormal eventually evolved into the field of parapsychology. Current research in parapsychology has three focuses: psychokinesis (PK), extrasensory perception (ESP), and survival-after-bodily-death experiences. Psychokenisis is direct mental interaction with objects animate or inanimate. Extrasensory perception is a general term for obtaining information about events beyond the reach of the normal senses ("Parapsychology FAQ"). Survival-after-bodily-death is the investigation into events and phenomena dealing with life after death.
False memories being created is obvious through many different ways, such as eye-witness testimonies and past experiments that were conducted, however repression is an issue that has many baffled. There seems to be little evidence on the factual basis of repressed memories, and many argue that it does not exist. The evidence for repression in laboratories is slowly emerging, but not as rapidly as the evidence for false memories. It has been hard to clinically experiment with repressed memories because most memories are unable to be examined during the actual event to corroborate stories. Experimenters are discovering new ways to eliminate this barrier by creating memories within the experiment’s initial phase. This is important for examining the creation of false memories during the study phase. This research study will explore the differences between recovered memories and false memories through research and experiments. Other terms and closely related terms will be discussed, while examining any differences, in relation to repressed memories. The possibility of decoding an actual difference between recovered memories and false memories, through biological techniques. Because false memories can be created, examining these creations in a laboratory setting can shed light on facts overlooked. Exploring these issues will also help with the development of better therapeutic techniques for therapists in dealing with memories. This can lead to an easier process for patients and therapists if they must go through the legal system in relation to an uncovered memory.
Paranormal activity is manifestation that lies outside of the normal experience which can’t be proven to be real. Most people have become interested in the haunted houses and stones due to the lack of support that they are getting from the community of science. The lack of support from the community will be hard to get because most people do not believe in this. According to the unknown, “paranormal activities and sightings usually fall into categories: spirituals entities, crytids, which are organisms whose existence is told by legends and myths.” Most people think that paranormal deal with just ghost and their hauntings but it is much more than that. Paranormal phenomena are not accepted by the scientists because they feel the evidence should be required. According to Psychic Readings, "ESP stands for extra sensory perception. While clairvoyance, or seeing clearly is primarily an optional phenomenon." A clairvoyant psychic is someone who shares a vision of unseen in telling about their health or future. "Clairvoyants are people who specialize in supernatural skills," states Psychics Reading. People like this have a magical ability to see into the past, present, and future. ESP is normally addresses as the sixth sense. "The term 'ESP' was used often in 1870 by Sir Richard Burton." Psychical research does not support that everyone is born with this capability. It is said there are people who have experienced at least one ESP in their lifetime. However to Schmeidler, another theory claims that ESP is a super sense which evolves in the nervous system. From David’s perspective, “hundreds of years ago to possess the gift of clairvoyance, one was considered a witch - as unknown knowledge was 'feared' (the emotion which keeps us trappe...
Perception of future events (precognition), communication through thoughts (telepathy), material manipulation without physical contact (telekinesis), sight of an object or place millions of miles away with enough accuracy to draw it (remote viewing) – these are a few cases of what is referred to as "psi phenomena," also known as parapsychological or psychic phenomena. "Psi" refers to "anomalous processes of energy or information transfer... that are currently unexplained in terms of known physical or biological mechanisms."(1) Long dismissed by scientists and other skeptics all over the world, these occurrences are often attributed to trickery, hallucination, lying, chance, and even spiritual influence. Claims of psychic ability come from many varied sources. From the friend who has premonitory dreams and the dog who knows when the master has decided to come home, to the glamorous astrologer with a 900-number and the clairvoyant with a TV show, stories of paranormal abilities range from personal and thought-provoking to distant and Hollywood-esque. Are these things really possible? What does the scientific community actually know about these phenomena? Ultimately, one must ask the question, what can the scientific community know about these phenomena?
between living organisms and their external environment that seem that seemed to transcend the known physical laws of nature (The Rhine, 2013). According to (Nichols, 2011) parapsychology was studied over 100 years and in that time amassed thousands of cases studies and formal experiments in order to better understand these non-ordinary realms. In the study of paranormal activity, they have been studying them in lavatories. When studying parapsychology, people try to get an understanding and hope to get their questions answered about the phenomena aspects of these subjects. Scientist who study paranormal activities are trying to discover why these events occur. Parapsychology came about in the 1930s. When in a paranormal situation it is weird and scary and sometimes unbelievable.
Paranormal activity better known as parapsychology is a non-fictional idea. Parapsychology is the scientific study of interactions between living organisms and their external environment that seem to transcend the known physical laws of nature. (Teresi, 2000) The Society of Psychical Research was established in London in 1882 (Teresi, 2000). Major parapsychological studies had not begun appearing in mainstream scientific journals until the sixties and early seventies (Teresi, 2000).“Furthermore, groups such as the Committee for the Scientific Investigation of Claims of the Paranormal (CSICOP) which publishes the Skeptical Inquirer and the James Randi Educational Foundation (JREF) have been formed to disseminate credible information on the paranormal. Credibility should be less of a problem in the future” (Teresi, 2000).

V.S. Ramachandran’s Phantoms in the Brain is a well-written book for what he believes to be the causes for some neurological theories and mysteries. He covers many syndromes such as Phantom Limb syndrome, the Capgras Delusion, Cotard’s Syndrome, Hemi-neglect, Blind-sight, Motion blindness, Anosognosia, multi-personality disorder, and the Zombie with in each of us. When he talks about these syndromes he is arguing for the theory of not having a soul because it is not physically tangible and using the neurological theory of consciousness to prove said argument. Though there is a theory of the soul he consistently proves that there is no such thing as a soul that we can physically obtain in our world. So, the question is, do souls exist or are they a figment of imagination and a coping mechanism for humans? Souls do not exist because whether one believes in them or not, they cannot physically be dealt with in the real world as shown through patients with Phantom Limb Syndrome, Capgras Delusion, and Blind-sight syndrome.
The development of psychology has enabled people to link human’s mind – personality and psychological problems – with his belief in the paranormal. Every man has a distinctive personality that drives them to think and act in a certain way. For that reason, personality plays an enormous role in dictating human’s belief in mysterious things. According to scholar Carla L. Smith, human’s belief in paranormal phenomena can be predicted based on the personality constructs (85). Smith finds that people who have personality relates to Open to Experience and Sensational Seeking, two types of personality constructs, “correlate positively and significantly to belief in paranormal phenomena” (92). In fact, she records a data that shows both Openness to Experience and Sensational Seeking account for about 20...
It’s a combination of telepathy and the four psychic senses. Telepathy is where thoughts, visuals verbal and feelings (emotional and physical) are sent directly back and forth from mind to mind. The four psychic senses are clairvoyance (seeing) , clairaudience (hearing), clairsentience (feeling), clairgustance (taste, smell). Using all these abilities helps me communicate with animals.
