"I shall not commit the fashionable stupidity of regarding everything I cannot explain as a fraud."

"Parapsychology is a belief in search of data rather than data in search of an explanation."

For years, ghosts and poltergeists have been a part of our popular lexicon. From stories told around the campfire, to motion pictures like The Haunting, to books like the Scary Story series, everyone has heard a good ghost story or two. Many people claim to have actually been party to a few supernatural experiences themselves. But for as long as we have told these frightful stories, science has been attempting to explain them beyond the typical bump in the dark.
This investigation into the paranormal eventually evolved into the field of parapsychology. Current research in parapsychology has three focuses: psychokinesis (PK), extrasensory perception (ESP), and survival-after-bodily-death experiences. Psychokenisis is direct mental interaction with objects animate or inanimate. Extrasensory perception is a general term for obtaining information about events beyond the reach of the normal senses ("Parapsychology FAQ"). Survival-after-bodily-death is the investigation into events and phenomena dealing with life after death.
In this paper, I intend to look at parapsychology and the study of survival-after-bodily-death. This area of parapsychology is perhaps the most recognizable, yet also the least investigated. I intend to look at the rise of this field of inquiry as a science, the arguments for it and against it, and why survival-after-bodily-death is not as prominent a field as it once was.

If death is really real, based upon the animistic quality of our five physical senses, then how do we know that we are truly alive and breathing, not in a dream? It has been proposed that people aware the existence of surroundings majorly rely on their five senses, which may cause illusions. The ethereal, yet grounded, theory of existentialism provides the landscape for a more positively identified pathway which reaches across the separation exists among humans.
The mind is a very powerful tool when it is exploited to think about situations out of the ordinary. Describing in vivid detail the conditions of one after his, her, or its death associates the mind to a world that is filled with horrific elements of a dark nature.
To survive in society, one must fit in. There are many reasons that people always try to be like everyone else. Some are unsure and others are afraid of being different. Many people change themselves just to fit in. Although tattoos used to be a sign of rebellion, they are now common. In Tattoos were once a sign of rebellion – no...

Near Death Experiences is a controversial phenomenon that has been debated among researchers, physicians, and the general public. The debate is whether or not what people think they experience is real or if it can to be explained by science. There are twelve characteristics of these experiences that are frequently experienced across the board including out of body experiences which lead to the questions: Does the conscious require the brain, or is it a separate entity that can exist and function on its own? Is there really life after death? Skeptics will answer in the negative and offer many possible explanations, but I can find no good explanation that can account for many of the experiences people have during an NDE.
Patient one, a man attempted to commit suicide, by electrocuting himself because of depression. After the incident, he told his psychiatrist, that his brain was dead, but his body was living. That he no longer needed to eat or sleep. However he acknowledged that his mind was alive, but could not understand if his brain was dead how his mind could be alive. Still though he kept insisting his brain was dead. Psyc...
Parapsychology is the branch of psychology concerned with study of extrasensory perception and psychical experiences. Whereas psychology and psychoanalysis deal with the corporeal man... parapsychology deals with the spiritual man. This spiritual branch of psychology was known to the Greek philosopher Aristotle as the science of metaphysics. We are told by him that, "the spirituous body either undergoes a certain breakdown or, by being out of symmetry, troubles and hampers understanding"... mental derangement and dulling of the understanding of man is due to changes in the spirit. That academic psychology would backtrack to seriously consider the hypothesis of the "spirit-body" and the metaphysical nature of man in the 20th century seems absurd. The thrust of parapsychology, however, appears inexorably driven in the direction where contemporary science, philosophy and religion blend into a single universal understanding, enabling man to know himself in the fullest context. Today's rebirth of this science is Parapsychology.
For many years, people have debated whether or not spirits are real. Some people get scared at the fact that there might be something unknown lurking in their house in the middle of the night making their footsteps known to everyone in it. Maybe that person feels watched upon or feel some kind of presence in their home, or even sees shadows moving their way through rooms. Different people around the world have their own opinions based on religion and experiences when talking about angels, demons, and the spirits that have life after death. New technology is getting closer to detecting these energies happening in the world today. The history of haunting dates back many years, and more people want to get involved because of the new technology.
Before studies of near-death experiences begin, scientists and doctors first have to understand what they are. So, what are they? A near-death experience is an unusual experience that takes place on the brink of death and usually involves a variety of components including an out-of-body experience (OBE) or a vision of a tunnel of light. These “out-of-bo...
Do you ever wonder how many times you use a light bulb? Do you ever think how your life would be without light bulbs? Well, without the invention of the light bulb, our lives would be completely different than it is today. Furthermore, just by the help of most of the oddly shaped, wired figures have helped a vast variety of people to conquer the day and we hardly even realize it. The light bulb was invented somewhere in the 1800s by a man named Thomas Alva Edison. Thomas Edison is one of the most powerful human beings who ever lived. Without his creation of the light bulb, the world would possibly not be where it is today.
Documents and scriptures on Alsace go as far back as 58 BC. Through the centuries it has been invaded with success by numerous Germanic tribes. Including the Franks, Celts, the Alemannic tribe and not to mention the Nazis and the Third Reich led by Adolf Hitler. With so much history the country has a large population base of Germans. The area itself speaks its native French language with a somewhat German accent. Its structures and clothing were traditionally of German roots, as well as its food. However the beautiful province of Alsace still holds true to its French ways none the less. The Alsatian love their wines and cheese dishes just as much as the rest of the country and even house some of the world’s best dry white wines. However, while the wine in the area is magnificent to ...
I was very excited to take Death and Dying as a college level course. Firstly, because I have always had a huge interest in death, but it coincides with a fear surrounding it. I love the opportunity to write this paper because I can delve into my own experiences and beliefs around death and dying and perhaps really establish a clear personal perspective and how I can relate to others in a professional setting.
These unsuccessful endeavours typically benefit individuals as opposed to executing their enthusiasm and motivation. Without experiencing failure, it is possible that Thomas Edison may have never become America’s most well-known, outstanding and productive pioneer. Edison is recognized as being the godfather of all inventors and is viewed as an iconic symbol in the field of discoveries. His journey to success, however, was met with many obstacles and road blocks. His brilliant mind kept working despite the challenges faced and ultimately resulted in the development of the enhanced incandescent light bulb. This discovery was a prime example of the creative problem solving process at work and became the icon behind the name Edison. In 1878, Edison began his attempt to build an electric light on the premise of coiled platinum wiring. The project was quickly abandoned after he encountered one single problem; the filament would fall apart after a short time. Edison identified the raw roots of this problem as being directly related to the uneven resistance of the current that flowed through it. This underlying failure revealed a truly curtail discovery. It proved that the filament must be composed of continuous fibers that would have the capacity to handle the current that flowed through it. After unveiling a solution, Edison started to investigate and experiment on distinctive types of
Imagine yourself back in third or fourth grade, reading one of the many additions to Goose Bumps. Have you ever found yourself wondering if perhaps something similar to those spooky paranormal stories could ever happen in real life? R. L. Stine's creations will probably always remain trapped in the world of fiction, but the paranormal is a rather broad category. Perhaps the monsters under the bed are not real, but what about ghosts, near death experiences, precognition, and the mind body connection? Those topics of the paranormal are very different.
