DISTANCE LEARNING PROS AND CONS
For at least one hundred years, distance learning has been a method of teaching and learning. Distance learning simply means the process of knowledge transfer from instructor or teacher to learners or students by time or physical distance and through the use of internet, video, CD’s, tapes and any other forms of technology to accomplish learning. This essay will argue that distance learning is the best learning method for students in the Pacific Region. Firstly, I will discuss why it is the best learning mode for students in the Pacific. Then, I will give reasons as to why it is not good for student in the Pacific Region.
To begin with, distance learning is inexpensive. It helps to avoid high cost of sending people overseas for higher education and training. A learner can just stay in his own country and be educated rather than traveling from his country to another to achieve higher level of education. (Sikua, 2007, pp.1-2) For instance, Sikua mentions that one centre in Makira Province in Solomon Islands has already got online courses and others that helps to avoid high cost for sending people to Honiara for learning.
Furthermore, it improves access to education for rural people. The use of technology components such as Internet, Video, CD’s and tapes help rural people to be more realistic in their learning. Through the widely use of internet, a learner can stay wherever he is and ask questions regarding a particular course through emailing the course coordinator. A learner can take more information regarding assignments through internet search rather than sitting and reading through some books in a traditional library which consumes a lot of time. For example, in Vanuatu learners take information ...

...ng on their own. They may feel lonely or miss the social physical interaction that comes with attending a traditional classroom. As interviewed on the 3rd of May, Luke mention that he really miss his traditional classroom interaction because he has every opportunities to speak up, communicate with teachers and friends regarding school work compare to now where he is currently studying he is lonely and sometimes shy to ask question to his new friends and local tutors.
Therefore, distance learning is of a great benefit to Pacific Region student because it helps them to get better education in a more flexible and cheapest way of learning. However, it can be sometimes lonely, difficult and time lapse for learners to get information straight from the coordinator. For short, we can say that distance learning is the best learning mode for students in the Pacific Region.
In his article, “Can You Be Education from a Distance?”, James Barszcz effectively weighs the pros and cons of online education compared to the traditional method, while effectively supporting his position with factual information and statistics. While distance education proves to be convenient for students, Barszcz asserts that it eliminates valuable experiences necessary in order to get the most out of the material being learned.
Balancing the Penn Foster College Veterinary Technology curriculum with work and family is often challenging for me. Distance learning is so much different from a conventional classroom. There is no opportunity to exchange ideas with another classmate face-to-face, or have personal contact with a teacher to ask questions and get clarification on a given assignment. Yes, there is the student forum for posting questions, as well as e-mail and the telephone, but they are not the same.
Hira argues that the sources of this momentum include distinct demographic trends in the developed and developing world, changes in the workJack Cunninghan (2010), in an article “Self-direction: A critical tool in Distance learning,” explained how self-directed learning is key to successful online distance education. In order for instructors and students to succeed in online learning, both must pay attention to motivation and self-discipline. He also described that self-directed learners are generally more adept at transforming learning into meaning and life application than students who simply listen to the professor. The role and necessity of self-directed learning in distance education is therefore discussed, and also principles for teaching in online distance education are
Having this accessibility, people with disabilities and students who have things going on in their life that prevent them from attending a normal school are in need of accessing an education virtually. Students with disabilities say that the Internet has improved their quality of life. With this statement said, it is known that people with benefit from accessing education virtually. People with disabilities are falling behind in education and careers, so having this as an option can improve both of those things. To go along with benefits from technology in the educational setting, people who live in remote locations, or have full time jobs in another sort can also benefit. Despite what critics say about technology in the educational setting, there are many benefits for various types of people because of this

If a student goes to school everyday and has problems with his classes, he/she has teachers to help him with the subject they are having trouble with. At home, these students do not have such an option. Distance learning is supposed to help the student excel at learning, but how are they expected to do well in their studies if they don’t have a guiding hand to help them when they require it. One could make the argument that some student’s parents are teachers and professors and
There are many negative and positves intakes about theses classes. Some of the positive reason that these class could benefit people are because some people have children or have busy work hour and will like to further their education. Another reason that distance learning is a good choice for people is because it works with flexible time periods and can work on your own pace. A negative reason for going to distance learning could be that one could feel as if they are isolated and not really communicating with much with your teachers and peers unless needed to.I belive that it all depends on how people take it because if they find a good one that will take credits torward their gpa they should go for

As the economy has changed in the last ten years so has the schools budgets and they are looking for ways to keep costs down. There is much evidence that distance education can be more cost effective than traditional education. Everyone can save a substantial amount of money by going with an online education because schools would not need facilities and equipment. Schools would also save money by not needing to provide services and programs to students. Students would save by not needing to drive to and from school, buy school supplies, and they can earn a degree in half the time than a traditional school setting.

Such as class.com and University of Phoenix, etc. Distance learning is less expensive and is not constrained by geographic considerations; it offers opportunities in situations where traditional education has difficulty operating. Students with scheduling or distance problems can benefit, as can employees, because distance education can be more flexible in terms of time and can be delivered virtually anywhere. Under the unified leadership of the distance learning education, the modern distance learning education work gradual increase the number of school has now reached a certain scale. It can be said, for the purpose of developing the distance learning education and the hopes has not formed a consensus, which leads to very often difficult to form in the actual work force.
It is a constant truth that technology is growing rapidly and it is opening up many opportunities for students as well as teachers. Through the use of the internet information that would take scholars months to acquire out and interpret can be found in less than a minute though a Google search and not only is the information their, but in many cases the information that you wanted is shown in bolded so it can even be found quicker.
In a K-12 setting, distance learning or traditional learning requires careful planning that must take place in order for the educational process to work for the students. When we look at both forms of education there are still pros and cons to both. Although online learning has made a major impact in the world of education, many people have not accepted this form of education. One of the reason for their concerns is that students cannot get fast answers to their questions about the assignment from the teacher. Another concern is that the students cannot perform effectively in a group collaboration that is taking place online. Also, students may not effectively do their homework from an online program. Lastly, some families do not have the technology at home for online learning.
