My interests in education stem from my commitment to promote educational achievement both domestically and abroad. For more than ten years, I have work to foster a professional philosophy on education that hinges on the belief that a pursuit of a 21th century quality education is one that fosters and promotes independent global thinkers who are able to compete in the rapidly-changing global economy. This is an ideal that I take seriously in my professional and academic pursuits- for to me educational equality is the civil rights issues of our time. It is also the notion that governs my personal philosophy on educational leadership. To promote 21th century learners, we must also work to develop 21th century educators. promotes collaboration and capacity-building, supports staff training and development, engages key stakeholders, increases community and parent partnerships, and promotes a positive environment where everyone feels empowered to foment achievement. As an educator with more than 10 years of professional experience in the field of international and domestic K-12 education, I can offer cross-functional experiences in curriculum development, instructional strategy, educational policy, educational assessments, and multi-project management.
One example of my leadership experience includes my role as Program Director for Acceleration Academy at Malcolm X Shabazz High School, a school for over-aged and under-accredited students. As director, I managed the overall operations of the academy including student discipline, team building, staff development, scheduling, and curriculum development and assessments. Other examples of my professional experiences in educational leadership include my role as the Innovative Zone Coordinator where I created curriculum modules for traditionally-marginalized students, lead professional development workshops on best practices in such areas as project-based learning, technology integration, and standards-based instruction. In this capacity, I also had the opportunity to pilot innovative approaches to learning in all content areas, mentor and coach teachers, write grants, and develop and maintain data reports on key academic
growth. To complement my professional accomplishments, I also hold a Masters in Arts in International Education from Teachers College, Columbia University and a Masters in Science in the Teaching of English to Speakers of Other Languages. I have also been the recipient of the New York City Teaching Fellowship. In these graduate programs, most of my academic research has focused on evaluating non-traditional school models for marginalized populations in the United States and abroad. This had also led to teaching, leadership, and research opportunities in Asia, Africa, Latin America, and the United States- all knowledge and experiences that I will bring to the program as a student of Lamar University. Most importantly, I believe that your university will give me the opportunity to advance my leadership skills and give me the credentials and knowledge I need to be successful as a K-12 administrator. My research of your university has shown your long-standing tradition of promoting leaders who are prepared to exceed the challenges of leading a 21th century school. Such knowledge will further equip me to be successful to lead staff and students in a K-12 learning environment.
Leadership training programs allow for teachers to use their professional experience as an educator and combine it with the academic and hands on experience of being a leader by providing a comprehensive program. Leadership “…is learnable by providing real world leadership training” (Ramsey, 2006, p.xx). The training program prepares educators to be leaders and equips them with the tools necessary to be an effective leader. There is a need for an “,,,infusion ...

It was only in college that I found my intellectual voice. I took a course in Medieval history with a maniacal professor who had a passion for the history of ideas. More than any specific content, he gave me a sense that I was a member of a larger community of scholars; that what I was doing mattered. He got me access to the stacks at the Library of Congress; he invited me, as an undergraduate, to present an academic paper at a conference at Villanova University. I eventually left the academic world for classroom teaching, but my transformation from a stereotypical “gen X slacker” to someone dedicated to learning has profoundly shaped my approach to both teaching and school leadership.
It is my belief that anyone with a desire to change the world would be fortunate to work in education. By sharing my vision with others, and building upon my skills while seeking constant growth, I strive to take an approach to leadership that fosters an effective, nurturing educational environment for the entire school community. By creating this type of environment, as well as through embracing and enhancing my leadership strengths, it is my goal to contribute to society by inspiring people to become better not only as teachers and students, but as compassionate human beings.
Potential aims and plans to accomplish need to remain stable.
As I am preparing for a new chapter in my life, I have put a lot thought in about what I want out of life and what to look forward to as I get older. In order for one to achieve anything, they need to set goals to reach for. I have a handful of goals for my future, short term and long term, that I will actively work towards in my college years and beyond. In my time at UW Eau Claire, I plan to be involved and engaged in student activities on campus. Being active will help me meet new people, build a better resume, and have fun at college. At UWEC, I would like to get involved in anything musical, along with various clubs and Greek life. Similarly, another goal of mine is to have a job on campus. Having a job will not only help me make some
What does leadership mean in the context of educational leadership? Many definitions of leadership in education co-exist, attesting to the complexity and multi-faceted phenomena of the concept (Elwell & Elikofer, 2013). Leadership is one of the most observed and least understood organizational and psychological areas of study. Despite volumes of research and numerous theories, no one theory of leadership emerged as the sole predictor of the success of educational leaders. The current body of knowledge about leadership consists of narrow definitions of leader effectiveness that are disconnected from their context (Latham, 2014). Educational leadership influences and affects every dimension of the educational process from the
What is my personal purpose? Is a question that I have never thought to ask myself until recently. Then when I started learning more about a personal purpose I started wondering if I have one and what it was. I never thought of myself has having a real purpose until a watched an interview Will Smith had did and he had said “When your life means something to someone other than yourself than you have a purpose.” That is when I realized that I have a purpose. My purpose is that I am the hug that let others know it is going to be ok. My personal goals is to be genuinely happy with myself and life and to make my parents proud, my career goal is to own my own business and being successful at doing so, finally, my educational goal is to get my bachelors degree and grauate with honors and even moving on to getting my masters. Having goals is important to me because I know that while I am in the process of accomplishing them I will have something great to look forward to in the end.
Becoming an instructional leader doesn’t happen overnight and is a position that strongly impacts student learning. Since student achievement is a top priority for school leaders, knowing what it takes to be an effective instructional leader should be the primary focus for anyone with the desire to become one. To pursue my dream of becoming an educational leader, the courses taken at the University of West Florida provided a wealth of knowledge and paved the way for implementing my vision and maximizing my leadership skills. Throughout the course of the program, emphasis on the Florida Principal Leadership Standards competently prepared me for certification in educational leadership.
After doing the developmental plan of my personal goal, I felt that this was an eye opener for me. I always have a plan just like a bucket list, but went I started writing out each topic of my personal goals and thought everything out it gave me a clear vision of what my goal really meant to me. It's going to take a lot of hard work and dedication to finish my goal.
