Personal Statement: My Career Goals

As I am preparing for a new chapter in my life, I have put a lot thought in about what I want out of life and what to look forward to as I get older. In order for one to achieve anything, they need to set goals to reach for. I have a handful of goals for my future, short term and long term, that I will actively work towards in my college years and beyond. In my time at UW Eau Claire, I plan to be involved and engaged in student activities on campus. Being active will help me meet new people, build a better resume, and have fun at college. At UWEC, I would like to get involved in anything musical, along with various clubs and Greek life. Similarly, another goal of mine is to have a job on campus. Having a job will not only help me make some

extra money, but it will give me experience for future jobs and give me a break from homework and classes. In order to balance schoolwork, clubs, activities, and a job, I will need to work on punctuality and time management. College will be a great time to improve such a skill, and I will carry it on throughout all I do in my future. Of course, though, college isn’t just about extracurricular activities and involvement,but it’s also about education. A big goal of mine for college is to be able to fully comprehend what is being taught and not just scrape my way through my classes. The only way to thrive and reach your full potential is to try your best and work hard. I plan to do both as I continue my education at Eau Claire. Coming from a town of around 4000 people, I am excited for the diversity that I will experience in the years to come. I will strive to be open to other opinions and perspectives and I hope to learn about other cultures and see from other points of view.
When my time is up at UW Eau Claire, I aspire to go to law school.

Currently, my goal is to get into UW Madison, and getting my undergrad at Eau Claire will give me the education needed to continue with my career goals. I would like to be a corporate lawyer someday, working in a company’s law department. Even when I am out of higher education, I aim to be constantly learning new things to benefit myself and others as a professional in a work setting. By doing this, I will be able to better myself in my career and work my way up the corporate ladder. I want to be able to take constructive criticism in an acceptable manner in the workplace, which will only improve what I am doing. My college experience will help me with this if I work on taking constructive criticism positively at Eau Claire. I want to find satisfaction in my career and feel good about what I am doing. This will help me to perform tasks better and more timely. As well, I hope to make connections with coworkers and clients so work will be more enjoyable. Making connections with other students and faculty in college with come in handy in a work setting with other

employees.
Something that I will work toward as both a career and life goal is to be financially stable.

Although money isn’t everything, being financially secure is very important. Money can’t buy love or happiness, but it makes life easier knowing you have a house to go home to, food in your fridge, and clothes to put on your back. My family had a hard time when I was growing up with making ends meet and I want to make sure that I do everything in my power to keep that from happening to my future family. If I apply myself in college and strive for knowledge, I will have the potential to become very adept in my field which will help me achieve my goal of financial stability because I’ll be able to keep a job. I also hope for my future that I stay open to new experiences, whatever the world may throw at me. I want to be able to travel and see new cultures, societies, and people. Hand-in-hand with traveling, I would love to volunteer all over the world, as well. I take great pride in doing volunteer work and it would be an enlightening experience to be able to help out around the world. Something else I am passionate about is music. I hope that I have the time and ability to continue on with my music career as my life progresses. Doing bands and music things at UWEC will help me to achieve this goal because I will learn immensely under great instruction. Going to UW Eau Claire will aid me in reaching all of these goals I have set myself. I am excited to see what my future holds for me

as I begin this new chapter in my life.
