“My bounty is as boundless as the sea, my love as deep; the more I give to thee, the more I have, for both are infinite” (Shakespeare). “Romeo and Juliet” written by William Shakespeare presented two families separated by a long time feud started by an unknown cause. Romeo and Juliet, the two young young lovers from the opposing houses fall in love which causes problems which make the two families come to terms and end their fight. “West Side Story” directed by Jerome Robbins and Robert Wise is a plot based around two groups, the Sharks and the Jets, are feuding because because of racial differences during the 1950s in New York City. Two characters from each groups find love and make the lasting feud end. Although people may stay that love is overcomable, it takes time for that to happen and in both plots they did not have time, so the love had to come to an end. The arguments and actions between two opposing groups can cause a relationship to fail, as exemplified in “Romeo and Juliet” and “West Side Story”.
The most apparent problem in the play, Romeo and Juliet, was family feud, which caused problems among the two families. First of all, the reader may find out that the family feud really had no known reason to why it had started, so, in theory, there was no real reason to why they were fighting. During act 1 of Romeo and Juliet, William Shakespeare quotes, “The quarrel is between our masters and us, their men” (Shakespeare). Although they know they are in a feud with each other, the Capulets and the Montagues, the men don’t really give a specific reason to why it started it or why it keeps going. This so called “feud” causes a lot of problems, even though it really does not have any reason. Even so, the large fight in act 3 wh...

“My bounty is as boundless as the sea, my love as deep; the more I give to thee, the more I have, for both are infinite” (Shakespeare). Arguments and actions among two opposing groups can cause love to fail as found in “Romeo and Juliet” by William Shakepeare and “West Side Story” directed by Jerome Robins and Robert Wise. If you were part of one of the groups, you would say that there was a reason behind the feud, but there is not, racial differences or family differences don’t need to be fought over among two groups, it is something that would happen if you are apart of a group or not. Love can overcome anything no matter what it is, but it takes time. In these two plays, love did not overcome fast enough and the problems and arguments over took it instead. This caused the relationship to fail and tragic deaths to happen.
Romeo and Juliet, written by William Shakespeare, is a story of two young lovers. These two hearts, Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet belong to feuding families. The family feud causes them to keep their love a secret and therefore only Romeo, Juliet, Benvolio, the Nurse and Friar Lawrence know of their love. Romeo and Juliet are able to look past the feud and let themselves fall in mad love with the other. They let themselves do almost anything for the other and at times it seems like too much to do, even for the one they love. Although fate and character traits play a key role in the play, ultimately Rome and Juliet’s personal choices lead to their downfall.Fate originates all of the conflicts in Romeo and Juliet, from when they met until they die.
Since Lord Capulet and Lord Montague are in an unnecessary feud, Mercutio, Romeo, and Juliet have all lost their lives. This theme is important to the story because the unnecessary fighting is causing many casualties, and disturbing the peace of Verona. If the feud never existed, then Verona would have order, and the six people who died would still be alive. This fighting is the driving force between all of the negative events in the play.
West Side Story is the story of two lovers from rival gangs who cannot be together. This musical was heavily inspired by William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. The music was a combination of jazz, pop, and classical which was influenced by Aaron Copland, which was Leonard Bernstein's friend. This
The play West Side Story, by Arthur Laurents, is based upon the play Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare. Despite a few differences, both works, in essence, have the same plot. The source of violence in Romeo and Juliet and West Side Story is the ever-present hatred between families and between gangs, although, because of the "star-cross’d lovers" motif in Romeo and Juliet, the hatred plays a larger role in producing the ending of West Side Story than it does the ending of Romeo and Juliet.
The feud meant that they had to keep their relationship under wraps and tip-toe around their families. The ancient grudge between the two families meant that if one member of either family found out about Romeo and Juliet then they would be killed, ‘If they do see thee, they will murder thee.’ The family feud between the Montague and Capulet families could also be held responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet because they both grew up with people dieing within the families because of the grudge. For instance Mercutio and Tybalt, Mercutio was a very loyal friend of Romeo’s and Tybalt was Juliet’s cousin. The deaths of these characters meant that Romeo and Juliet were both distressed and unhappy, and thus could have given more reason to their own deaths, ‘ A’ Thursday let it be, a’ Thursday, tell her,
Love is a beautiful thing, it always works out in the end. Everyone is always happy and no problems occur. West Side Story, a musical by Leonard Bornstein based on Shakespeare 's Romeo and Juliet parallels a love story of two star-crossed lovers. The play takes place in 1961 in New York City. This musical displays importance because it shows that nothing can overcome the power of love. This play is based on a love story between the main characters of Maria and Tony. Theses two are from different gangs that trouble to get along. They are from different gangs that do not get along at all. Roughly two hundred blocks make up Manhattan’s West Side, which stretches from Central Park West to the Hudson River. For the most part, the street youths
Romeo and Juliet and West Side Story share many similar themes. Romeo and Juliet both chronicle a story of overcoming prejudice and hatred, forbidden love, and defying stereotypes that nobody thought could be broken. The two stories are similar in a multitude of ways, even though their settings are centuries apart- Romeo and Juliet set in the 1500’s, and West Side Story set in the 1950’s. Romeo and Juliet and West Side Story both teach a lesson of how prejudice can teach you how to hate, and how one of your rivals may be the one who helps you remember how to love. In both Romeo and Juliet and West Side Story, prejudices are so strong between two distinct groups of people that the hatred is passed from generation to generation, always against the same rival group.
‘Romeo and Juliet’ by William Shakespeare incorporates the theme of conflict through many different characters and situations. The definition of conflict is “a fight, battle, or struggle; especially a prolonged struggle; strife” The play mainly focuses on the tragic lives of Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet; the two characters belong to the Montague and Capulet households respectively, which have held ongoing grudges against each other for years. The play ends with both main characters committing suicide, to be together in heaven. As with many of Shakespeare’s works, the theme of conflict is a strong one. For a start, there is the ongoing conflict between the two families; the Montagues and the Capulets. The audience is unsure how this grudge started; this reflects how tedious some ongoing grudges can be. This is a vital conflict to keep the structure of the story, as without this conflict Romeo and Juliet would not have encountered the problems they had with their marriage. However, there are different ways of putting this grudge across - through dialogue, such as Mercutio’s intell...
The Conflict Between Two Families in William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet The play ‘Romeo And Juliet’ is a very dramatic one. The conflict between the two families is key to the play as a whole. If they’re where no. conflict. They would just be allowed to be together.
Firstly, the Capulets and Montagues are at odds with each other. Members of each house and servants break into a sword fight, clashing with each other. Sampson says "Draw, if you be men. Gregory, remember thy swashing blow." (Act 1, Scene 1, Line 60). The feuding between the two families motivates Sampson to challenge the Capulets. Another example of how the two houses despise each other is what Romeo and his friends have to do to get into the Capulet feast. So they will not be recognized, Romeo, Mercutio, and Benvolio wear comic masks to hide their faces. Mercutio says, "Give me a case to put my visage in" (Act 1, Scene 4, Line 29). They do not want to be recognized because of the hatred between the two houses. Also, Romeo and Juliet are not supposed to be in love: "My only love sprung from my only hate! / Too early seen unknown, and known too late! / Prodigious birth of love it is to me, / That I must love a loathed enemy." says Juliet (Act 1, Scene 5, Lines 137-140). They are not supposed to love each other because it just so happens that each of their houses despise each other. It is unfortunate for Romeo and Juliet that their two families are against each other, because this means that they are not supposed to be married.
The book West Side Story written by Arthur Laurents is set in the mid 1950’s, created as modern version of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. West Side Story is a romantic tragedy about two characters that are supposedly completely different and aren’t accepted when they fall in love. The “difference’s” between these characters is centered on the prejudice’s they had against each other. Prejudice is a harsh opinion or feeling formed previously without any knowledge or reason. The Jets and the Sharks used many prejudices against other races, sex, and age. What they didn’t realize is that they have more similarities than differences.
In the beginning, there was a huge brawl between the 2 families in the streets. As well as, there was a duel between Benvolio and Tybalt, Romeo and Tybalt, and Paris and Romeo which also adds to the murder example because Benvolio died to Tybalt then Romeo killed Tybalt then after some time Romeo killed Paris. In the world today, murder is very common in the world today because people think to solve each others problems is to get rid of them which happened a lot in the story. In Romeo and Juliet, Lord Capulet was abusing his daughter because she wasn’t going to marry Paris. Compared to the world today, children and even the spouse don't obey there commands. Usually the father, tend to beat them and make them feel superior and powerful and hope to enforce that he/she is the boss of the house and do what they say. Towards the very end, a suicide death occurred between both Romeo and Juliet over each others death even though they weren't actually dead before they died. Suicide is a very leading death in America and possibly around the world where teenagers like Romeo and Juliet kill themselves because they think they have lost everything and can no where near come back from this
In William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, the death of these “two star-crossed lovers” is caused by the feud between their families. Because of the feud between the Montague and Capulet families Romeo kills Tybalt, Juliet’s dad doesn’t know about her marriage with Romeo so he arranges for her to get married, and Romeo and Paris are both in love with Juliet. For these reasons, the rivalry between the two families lead to death and conflict.
The feud between the Montagues and the Capulets causes the young couple to have to sneak around to one another. Broken family relationships in both families add stress since there are less people Romeo and Juliet can trust, and feel comfortable talking too. Miscommunication not only between Romeo and Juliet, but almost all the characters, affect the couple in a poor way because they are constantly being misinformed about one another. Romeo and Juliet may not like that they have been greatly impacted by all these factors but these actions are ultimately what shaped their lives, and affected how they lived them. This demonstrates how the influences around you can change the way you feel about certain things. If they had better family conditions, and ways to communicate, it is possible they could have lived their lives longer and
In Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, these arguments and fights are quite persistent. Within Verona, the Montague and Capulet families share a deep hatred for one another. Their families would prefer to not interact and cooperate with one another, due to unknown reasons. Lords Montague and Capulet make it apparent to their families that it would be an outrage for members of both parties to befriend one another, let alone have a romantic relationship with each other. Despite the beliefs and orders of their parents, Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet find that they deeply love one another, and
