The Conflict Between Two Families in William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet The play ‘Romeo And Juliet’ is very dramatic one. The conflict between the two families is key to the play as a whole. If they’re where no conflict they would just be allowed to be together. Also the play would not get anywhere. No one would watch it. The use of the prologue in giving an introduction and background to the conflict is wise. As it was certain phrases and words, to show how the families are in anguish and don’t like each other. ‘Two households, both alike in dignity’. ‘From ancient grudge to new mutiny’. And then at the middle of it all there is a pair of lover, both from different families. The way in which the conflict and the brawl, which makes the violence of the conflict apparent is that the two servants Sampson and Gregory, are having a friendly fight against each other. ‘Put up your swords’. But then the other side in the form of Abram enters and starts to annoy and anger the other side. ‘Do you bite your thumb sir?’ Then the Capulet enters. ‘Give me my sword’. Then the Montague enters. ‘Thou villain Capulet’ When the prince says his big long speech he says about how the two sides have disturbed Verona on a whole. Plus what he is willing to do to stop the issue and violence. ‘You men, You Beasts’. ‘With purple fountains, issuing from your veins’. ‘You’re lives will pay the forfeit’. For the fact that they have disturbed everyone they will be put to death if they do anymore, to annoy the people of Verona or the prince himself. The way in which Shakespeare uses Tybalt to highlight the conflict between the two families especially at the party is a good one. He does this as he uses Tybalt as the communicator between the two families. But Tybalt is very angry with Romeo, as he has come to the Caplets feast. ‘Tis he that villain Romeo’.
