The department of Information Technology (IT) provides leadership for the development of cost effective technical services and business solutions. The department is the foundation of the organization. The responsibility of the department is to store, transmit, receive, retrieve, protect, and secure information. Employees are able to rely on the assistance of software programs including consumers who are impaired. This infrastructure of the organization is essential to provide absolute immediacy with a clear and concise point of view (Palmira, 2012). A breakdown of the organization is inevitable without constructive communication of IT because new concepts improve the quality of products and the reputation of the company.

Spokane Industries has contracted Franklin Electronics for an 18 month product development contract. Franklin Electronics is new to using project management methodologies and have not been exposed to earned value management methodologies. Even though Franklin and Spokane have worked together in the past, they have mainly used fixed price contracts with little to no stipulations. For this project Spokane Industries is requiring Franklin Electronics to use formalized project management methodologies, earned value cost schedules, and schedules for reports and meetings. Since Franklin Electronics had had no experience with earned value management, the cost accounting group was trained in the methodology in order to bid for the project. Franklin Electronics won the contract because they had the lowest price. They developed a work breakdown structure that consisted of 45 work packages with 4 of the work packages being delivered in the first 4 months. They also developed a simple status report consisting of the work packages due, budgeted cost for work scheduled, budgeted cost for work performed, actual cost for work performed, cost variance and price variance. When they deliver the first status report, the Franklin Electronics project manager is called into an emergency meeting because Spokane Industries vice president is unhappy with the progress. This journal entry will discuss and provide examples of core values of a group leader and core knowledge of a group leader. In addition, the references that were used for this assignment include information from Chapter 3 in the textbook and the transcript and video tools provided for completing this assignment. Furthermore, the examples I provided may not necessarily fit exactly, however, to some degree they do and do not. However, I tried to find some examples that represent who I am and I believe that when reflecting upon these examples they do show a great reflection of many things that do fit.
When things are getting tough and people are looking for someone to take charge, I want that person to be me. I believe that I was born to be a leader, because my best work results from when I get control in a situation. In a group setting, something could be as small as a playing a board game or as big a final project, if I want it to go well then I need the lead. All through my life I have held informal leadership roles, such as the ones mentioned previously, and have earned formal leadership positions as well. A particular formal role that I have possessed was being elected captain of my high school varsity basketball team. This role taught me a lot about how to execute with a group of differently skilled people all seeking a common goal, a major component in leadership. The other position I held was being a Peer Leader for my high school, a club that involves mentoring underclassmen in their transition from middle school. This experience taught me to direct a different dynamic, people who need to be taught as well as lead.
