Preparing Women for Public Leadership: Programs and Strategies
While we know that women are underrepresented in all facets of public leadership – from political to corporate and local to global – we have a particularly compelling reason to explore this issue in our immediate regional context. Pennsylvania ranks 44th out of the 50 states (CAWP, 2003) in women’s political participation and serves as an excellent local example of the need to empower more women and to change the climate in which they attempt to practice leadership. The Pennsylvania Center for Women, Politics, and Public Policy (PCWPPP) was created in 1998, through a seed grant, to address this historic under-representation and to provide programs to increase the level of political participation of women in Pennsylvania through education, public service, and research. Over the past five years, hundreds of women have attended Center-sponsored programs and activities, including the NEW Leadership Institute, while others from across the state have participated in the e-MERGING Leaders electronic mentoring program. More specifically, current PCWPPP activities include public leadership and political training seminars for college women, candidate training, a fellow-in-residence program, topical lectures for the campus community and the public, data collection about women, sponsorship of Washington D.C. seminars on women and public policy for which students earn academic credit, the Conversations with Women in Politics and Public Policy lecture series, voting drives, and a variety of community partnerships.

The women of the state of Arizona have always played a significant role in politics. Before most women even had the right to vote, two women from Arizona, Frances Munds and Rachel Berry, were the first women elected into the state legislature. Today, Arizona has the highest percentage of women in the state legislature. More impressive is the fact that Arizona is the first state ever to have an all-female elected line of succession. There is no doubt that these five women greatly contributed to making 1997 the "Year of the Woman," where there was a dramatic increase in women's representation in the House and Senate. Why women in Arizona have flourished in the political arena and continue to do so is a question our group will try to answer in our research. More specifically, I will discuss women in current Arizona politics. In reviewing the role of women in current politics today, I will discuss the reasons as to why women have such strong political power in the state of Arizona, and the difference, between the views of voters in Arizona and other states. I will also discuss not only the future of women in Arizona politics but the future of women in national politics as well, and what to expect as the new millenium approaches.

In the American society, we constantly hear people make sure they say that a chief executive officer, a racecar driver, or an astronaut is female when they are so because that is not deemed as stereotypically standard. Sheryl Sandberg is the, dare I say it, female chief operating officer of Facebook while Mark Zuckerberg is the chief executive officer. Notice that the word “female” sounds much more natural in front of an executive position, but you would typically not add male in front of an executive position because it is just implied. The fact that most of America and the world makes this distinction shows that there are too few women leaders. In Sheryl Sandberg’s book “Lean In,” she explains why that is and what can be done to change that by discussing women, work, and the will to lead.
This essay will inform and relay information about sexual harassment. The issue that is facing this country is recognizing what sexual harassment is and how to combat it. Personally, I think it comes down to an issue of awareness. If everyone knew what sexual harassment was and how to deal with it in a mature manner, we would be able to control this growing problem. We will talk about what to do if you are put in a harassing situation, why this happens and how do deal with it on a personal level.

The horses and mares were seen doing different domestic things. There was a resemblance between the bodies of the human beings and the yahoos but those yahoos were most filthy and detestable. Houyhnhnms never lied or told a falsehood. Infact, Gulliver found no notion of lies and falsehood. The houyhnhnmsns refused to believe Gulliver that in his country horses were looked after by the human beings. They could not believe that yahoos could be endowed with reason. Gulliver’s equine master wanted to know about human war and the causes for so many murders and killings, because there were no wars in the world of horses. The master observed that the yahoos were known to hate one another more that they did any other species. They seldom were able to kill one another for want of such convenient instruments of death as we (the civilised human beings) had invented. Gulliver also tells that for want of foreign war to engage their attention, the yahoos engage in a civil war among themselves. The yahoos were idle and crazy as they were mischievous and vicious. Sexual harassment is so ordinary in the workforce that frequently we fail to even recognize harassing behavior as immoral. This is because so many of us--women and men alike--have become desensitized to offensive behaviors. Sexual harassment in any form is unacceptable behavior and should not be tolerated by anyone. It undermines our ability to study, to work, and to feel like effective, empowered people in the world.

Each year many people first become aware of sexual harassment when they are harassed in the workplace. Today in the United States there still seems to be a need for general information about sexual harassment. Many people are unaware of exactly what sexual harassment is, how it affects its victims, where it happens, and what to do if it happens to them. There are many laws that protect people from sexual harassment and provide them with information about what to do if you should ever be in this situation (Wyatt, 2000).
Sexual harassments- the issue of sexual harassment has been under controversies based on the fact that it can hardly be quantified or qualified. Some actions can be seen as sexual harassment by the employer to the employees but due to legal bureaucracies, where the plaintiffs are required to prove their cases beyond reasonable doubts, their cases may fail despite the fact that they were indeed sexually harassed (Aggarwal, & Gupta, 2000). This has made stakeholders to try and come up with comprehensive ways to prevent or deal with cases of sexual harassments.
For organizations, harassment can affect their reputation and success as it threats its employees’ personal security leading to less satisfaction not only with their job, but with the organization as a whole. And the lower the employees’ satisfaction is, the higher the turnover and absenteeism rates are. This may also lead to less productivity and innovation. Organizations may also be exposed to lawsuits and fines as well as other compensations and penalties. Sexual harassment is not only against the law but it also decreases the efforts for productive work and a good learning environment, thus lowering the chances of organizations progress (Laxman et al, 2014:
