Today’s class was very beneficial because we got to collaborate with our colleagues. Being able to use the curriculum document and create learning objectives was very useful. At my practicum placement, I am also teaching lessons and planning for them. An activity like this is relevant to my practicum placement, but will also help my teaching. For example, when writing your learning goals, I learned you could write “upon completion of this lesson students should be able to”. This is an excellent way to list the learning objectives for the lesson. In today’s class, my memory was refreshed about Blooms Taxonomy, which I learned in both my science and ELL class. However, todays class allowed me to understand it and apply it specifically in math.
I understand that there are key verbs attached to each level. As a teacher, I would have a poster of Blooms Taxonomy in class because it is very useful when creating and planning a lesson plan. I also learned that cognitive load is very important for teachers to understand. As an educator, we must reduce cognitive load. Unfortunately growing up most of my math teachers did not provide this option, however we are given the opportunity to do so. For example, some ways teachers can reduce cognitive load is by proving a guided reading of the question with the class. Providing students with manipulatives e.g. blocks, cubes, numbers lines etc. Teachers can also provide a picture of the word problem is required. The teacher can break the question apart and rephrase it differently without giving away the answer.

The aim of this essay is a reflective account in which I will describe a newly acquired skill that I have learned and been able to implement within my role as a trainee assistant practitioner. (T.A.P.) for Foundation for Practice. I have chosen to reflect upon neurological observations on patients that will be at risk of neurological deterioration. Before I begin any care or assessments, I should have a good theoretical underpinned knowledge, of the skill that I am about to put into practice, and have a good understanding of anatomy and physiology, in order to make an accurate assessment of a patients neurological status. I will be making a correct and relevant assessment to identify any needs or concerns to establish the patient’s individualized care, and make observations to determine an appropriate clinical judgement.
The students really enjoyed this activity because they were able to hear discussion about dialect and slang words that they currently use. Teaching this activity had to be the most rewarding because I saw the look of confusion change to understanding on the faces of so many students. One student said to me after class, "I always wondered why my grandmother speaks so different, and uses words that I never heard of. Tonight I will go home and ask her about it." That made me feel like I helped students think about an issue that they may have never thought of, and it was great! I must admit that I was a little skeptical of the way this lesson would turn out because the first day I had some difficulty. But after seeing my students engaged and excited about a lesson that I created, I knew that I would one day be one of the "great" teachers that I idolize.
This semester in Child Development has helped me a great deal. I came into this class wanting to be a Child Development teacher at the high school level. I am leaving this class with the same ambition to become a Child Development teacher. I have learned so much by taking this class and I know it will all be helpful in the future once I am standing at the front of a classroom. Also, just by watching the way Mary teaches the class, I have learned things that I want to take into my own style of teaching.

Over the course of this class I have pieced together many things about my own life that before went unnoticed. I am now able to see things in a bit of a different light. Now that I have been introduced to the realm of psychology I understand some of the reasons for behavior around me. I have learned that there is a reason for most everything and a lot of our behaviors and mental processes can be explained through psychology. Studies have been conducted for many years to try and pinpoint the source of our behavior and it is not something that most people think about every day. Having a better understanding of why we operate the way we do will help me to better understand myself and the others around me.
The lesson plan has been designed to align with the ACARA framework for Year 3 Mathematic Students (ACARA, 2014): The Measurement and Geometry Strand. The 3 sequential lesson plans from the new unit are part of a learning continuum, and have been developed around a student centred, constructivist approach. Explicit teaching was also important in reaching all the student’s learning needs. Experiences were motivating to promote on task behaviour to maximise learning opportunities. The lessons scaffolded learning, and students make meaning of learning through a variety of effective pedagogical approaches. (Battista, 1997).
I completed my practicum at the State University Health Research Center. The HRC was launched in March 2014 by the State School of Medicine. Its mission is to utilize the Community-based Participatory Research (CBPR) approach to build the community capacity and leadership for health promotion and disease prevention across the diverse populations of the county.
I have ensured that I meet my students’ science needs by assuring that the material needed to be cover in the class was covered. Furthermost, the students are able to learn from exploring, which is different from teaching the students how to and giving them the information needed. The students were still able to learn the material needed to be covered by discovering the content.
The understandings I have gained from this course have completely revamped my way of teaching. I have been using the unit plan and curriculum map I created in this course for the past two years, and my students enjoy it more and more each year. Learning the importance of using big ideas and essential questions in the classroom have made me a better educator and has assisted my students in learning content and skills that they can transfer to all academic areas and into their everyday lives. The concept that we discussed throughout the semester that was most surprising to me was that of meditation. Coming into this class, I had a biased view of meditation. As a senior in high school, one of my teachers used to make us meditate every Friday for an hour during her class. As seniors, stressed about college applications and lack of sleep, we all thought that this was the perfect opportunity to take a nap during the school day. From my experiences with meditation in that class, I really didn’t believe that meditation was helpful in any way or served a purpose. After taking this class, however, I now understand that meditation is more than just sitting in one position for long periods of time.
I consider myself very lucky to have the chance to participate in this course to improve my teaching which would be impossible without the feedback and support of my colleagues and tutors Mr. Shaun Walden Mr. Orlando Delgado Mata and Mr. Peter Nicolle.
In looking back at this class, I realize that I have learned more than I expected. My most valued learning experience was observation. The diversity of students is more than cultural or economic, students have different learning styles and personalities; for instance, some students eager to please authority work diligently, while less disciplined students struggle to focus on task and suffer for the distraction. Some of my classmates grumble about professors, work, or grades. Observing students allowed me to view them in the natural habitat and habits of students. Meanwhile classroom observation gave me an opportunity to observe a teacher maintaining a class. Having sat in class as a student and observing a classroom as an outsider allowed
I wanted them to dig deeper and actually try and find the answer instead of giving up and knowing someone else will answer it for them. I had to find the perfect balance of helping and pushing students to achieve. I believe by the end of my 45 hours I find the right way to assist students and further their rational. This experience was so amazing. From being in this class I know that teaching is what I want to do with my life. I was always excited to see my students no matter how bad my day was. I learned so much from my host teacher and I hope to visit

By applying CBT to take advantage of the potential of CBT, professors have more time to track the activities of each participant, presenting complex material in class and expect more from students(OTA, 1988).
