The Internet allows us to connect and receive ideas from a vast variety of individuals all over the world. A non-traditional way of obtaining this information is through crowdsourcing. “When you crowdsource, you take a task that an employee or a contractor usually performs and instead outsource the task to a large group of people, usually via the Internet” (Evans, Martin, & Poatsy, 2016). This way allows an abundant number of individuals to work on a job for the benefits of accumulative intelligence. You can also use crowdsourcing to accumulate and analyze results of responses to make educated business choices. Crowdsourcing gives a chance for people to be heard and lets these volunteers contribute to larger and mostly better results. The Internet …show more content…
Doritos decision to allow anyone to participate and contribute to designing an Ad connects people from all over the world. People get to share their creative side, while also looking at other perspectives. People are allowed to express their voice and share their content with everyone. The power over the consumers is huge, and the Internet has allowed them to create and participate in opportunities like these, especially advancements in technology. Doritos has used the Internet and social networks to obtain ideas fast and for cheap to display the most valued Ad created by a consumer due to crowdsourcing. Doritos has to rely on the consumers to create the Ad for the Super Bowl, which can be challenging. It is one of biggest and known events for commercials, so Doritos has a big decision. Using crowdsourcing has made the decision a little easier though. Although, they do have to higher services, such as Goodby Silverstein and Partners to go through all of the 6, 200 ads in five days. They have to pay attention to which Ads will be able to perform at the Super Bowl. There is a lot of work put into selecting one Ad and although it is cheap to find one, they have incentives they need to hold their promise too, which can get costly. Doritos choice of using the Internet for crowdsourcing was a great idea in picking a Super Bowl Ad. There are far more pros than cons in a situation like …show more content…
The Internet has allowed these types of situations seen in Power’s and Erickson’s articles to take advantage of crowdsourcing on the Internet and obtaining the information and support they are looking for. Crowdsourcing allows individuals to participate in a huge group and voice their opinions and ideas to help with some type of cause or event. The positives are endless with crowdsourcing, but you always have to be aware of the negatives that come along with such an enormous process. Crowdsourcing can be difficult to distinguish information and find exactly what you are looking for, as well as dealing with bias participants in obtaining answers and information. Feedback may also be unreliable and the quality could be questionable. With all the advancements in technology and use of the Internet, it has influenced the power and pitfalls of crowdsourcing, seen in Erickson’s “Crowd-Powered: Why Doritos Lets Fans Make Its Super Bowl Ads” and Power’s “Crime solving by crowdsourcing: On Internet, thousands sift through photos, trying to identify bomb suspects”, through gaining a numerous amount of inexpensive ideas really quickly, but also questioning the quality and reliability of crowdsourcing results. Crowdsourcing is a great communication tool to use and has great benefits to business and other individuals utilizing crowdsourcing, as well as the
For centuries humans have depended on natural evolutionary processes for intelligence. Gathering information or doing simple research was a process that required large amounts of time and equipment until the proper information was found. Over the past several years we have seen how technology has advanced for the better of humanity. In “Get Smarter” by Jamais Cascio he brings to our attention some of the ways technology has benefited us today and how it could continue to benefit us in the future as well. The internet has become one of the largest breakthroughs in technology and become one of the most helpful tools created so far.
For most companies, advertising can be a costly affair. On the one hand, customers are getting more information about new products, goods and services. While, on the other hand, it has to be effective, noticeable and remembered long enough to make potential customers into actual ones.
Super Bowl is one of the most watched American television broadcast. In 2011 Super Bowl become the most watched television program in the history with an average audience of 111 million. While Super Bowl get the attention of the audience and keep increased the viewership, the top company found their way to make commercial for their brand and products, and broadcast the commercial during the Super Bowl games domestically. Super Bowl commercial became a culture among the people. Most of the people even don’t watch the games but the commercial during the games. The top brand companies also start spending big chunk of money to make the best attractive commercial for their audience. Among those best polished commercial was the Chrysler automobile corporation commercial, which changed the public view of Chrysler, and did a great work by using pathos appeal to attract audience by stimulating their emotions.
Advertising is as old as civilization itself. They are forever interconnected. If one changes then so does the other. So as our society evolved dramatically by the influence of technology and social media, so did the way we advertised. With the power of technology, advertising gained the ability to be everywhere at once. These locations ranged from billboards, to projector screens that hang from skyscrapers, to even in your homes in the form of commercials. The evolution of advertising in the modern world is both somewhat disturbing and innovative at the same time.
In the Doritos commercial advertisement, the logo is seen with the brand title. The Doritos logo is the more powerful of the two based on this information, because of how Doritos is widely known and recognized by all, while many of the sponsors on the billboard aren’t as immediately recognizable. The video describes how our society may not even care about the product being advertised, but we still read the billboard or watch the commercial. Also mentioned was the use of colors in a commercial, the marketing effects in politics, and even market research obtained by studying different cults.
The advantage to such a large audience for a national brand is the immediate exposure to an extremely large target audience, so the opportunities to see (OTS) with a frequency of just one day is of great significance (Clow & Baack, 2016). Although, clutter is a disadvantage to advertisers during the Super Bowl, as viewers are barraged with an overwhelming number of commercials throughout the run of the game. Utilizing unprecedented or unique advertising can increase sales if a company is larger, has more brand equity, brand value, and brand awareness (Kim, Freling, & Eastman,
For instance, one ad that catches the shoppers' attention is Walmart. How does Walmart do this? First, they break their Black Friday sales into several “Events” starting at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day and ending, with the final Event at 8 a.m. Black Friday (Walmart Black Friday Ad, 2013, p. 10). This strategy is designed to spread out the onslaught of shoppers, and extending their sales period. How Walmart accomplishes this is that each Event is set up to lure shoppers with a limited number of highly popular electronic items offered at an immense discount. Second, Walmart has added another new marketing plan, which they called “1-Hour in Stock Guarantee”. This is an in-store only enticement on six hot deals is for one hour on...
The growth of social media and the power of the internet gave Doritos an idea to use crowdsourcing by turning to their customers with a challenge. They asked them to come up with their own super bowl ad. Thirty-second to come up with the best super bowl ad and a chance at one million dollars. In order to win the ad must place number one on the USA Today AdMeter. The USA Today AdMeter also added an additional chance to win a million dollar via the power of Facebook giving two entries a chance at a million dollars instead of just one. Moreover, the winner of the 2007 Super Bowl ad called “Man’s Best Friend”, cost merely twenty dollars when other companies Super Bowl ads cost millions and millions of dollars for thirty seconds of airtime (Erikson, 2012). This crowdsourcing that Doritos used paid off big for their company and each year they reexamine to ensure having another Crash the Super Bowl contest would be a good idea.
The Internet gives us a seemingly endless supply of resources; we can search for information, communicate with others, or use it for our own personal work or pleasure. The Internet connects us to the rest of the evolving world, in all different countries around the world. With the ability to seek information on the Internet, we can gain knowledge about an endless supply of topics. For example, if someone wanted to learn how to plant a tree they can simply navigate to Google and type in “how to plant a tree.” Furthermore, thousands of pages will appear with step by step instructions demonstrating the process of planting a tree. This knowledge has made our society smarter because we can figure things out on our own, but at the same time save money; we do not have to pay someone else to tell us how to plant a tree. It can really benefit students in school because it allows u...
The Mountain Dew case centers on the decision that the BBDO team and Pepsi executives made in regards to the Super Bowl advertisements to be aired in 2000. The creative team came up with 10 possible scenarios. Since their meeting took place in October (4 months prior to the Super Bowl) they had little time to produce the ads. The 10 concepts were quickly whittled down to 5 and the executives wanted to whittle them down to 3 in which to produce. From those 3, the best 2 would be selected to air at the Super Bowl, but all 3 would be run throughout the year. The 5 advertisements that they whittled down to were Labor of Love, Cheetah, Dew or Die, Mock Opera and Showstopper.
The Superbowl 2016 was a very entertaining game to watch. But one of the most entertaining parts that everyone loves the most is the commercials that they play each year. There are so many different commercials for different products that people are trying to advertise more. Out of all the commercials that i had watched this year i believe that one stood out the most. The Doritos commercials get better and better each year and this year it stood out the most. This year the Doritos commercial even though a little awkward was still entertaining. I know for a fact every time i go and buy a bag of Doritos i'm going to remember this commercial.

People need to be aware of the advertisements , setting their behaviors correctly and carefully and need to be smart about their consumption . This is exactly how people should act against the advertisements and advertisers should be conscious about what are they doing . They should analyze and check their project before releasing it . What is necessary and what is not really needed should be balanced according to Ethical Standards . Unless they do not obey the rules , government should break in and put some restrictions .

The Internet has made access to information easier. Information is stored efficiently and organized on the Internet. For example, instead of going to our local library, we can use Internet search engines. Simply by doing a search, we get thousands of results. The search engines use a ranking system to help us retrieve the most pertinent results in top order. Just a simple click and we have our information. Therefore, we can learn about anything, immediately. In a matter of moments, we can become an expert.
