Post-Course assessment My experience in Composition I was very good. The class’ atmosphere was welcoming, we used peer review effectively, and I got fairly good grades. I was slightly disappointed when I wasn't able to get into a class with the same professor as last semester. Although I did not get into the class that I was hoping to get into, I was prepared for the new experience. I also had my own set of goals and expectation. My goal in Comp II was to improve the presentation skills. getting good grade goal I was never very fond of reading or writing during my time at high school. My essay detailed the educational benefits that chess can provide. This was a topic that I had really wanted to cover for a long time, being a chess player. I had read a few scholarly essays before this class, but I had never written a paper quite like this. It required extensive research to find the right sources that expressed the information I was looking for. I wanted sources that explored the educational benefits of chess in every area of education, but it impossible to find sources that compared compared chess skills to the area of social studies. Since I was unable to find all the information that I wanted, I was forced to improvise and change my approach to writing this paper. Since information relating to chess and social studies could not be found, I instead found a sources that looked at chess’s impact on SAT scores. I believed, since the SAT’s are such a recognizable test, that a study that showed chess players scored higher on this test would be even more effective than a study focusing around social studies. However, I chose to do my presentation by myself. I didn't want to compromise with another person on what we should present; I also did not want my grade to be effected by another individuals actions. This presentation went fairly well for me. I chose a Ted Talk that I had seen before; a presentation about the faults of the criminal justice system, by Bryan Stevenson. For this presentation, I created a visual very similar to the poster I used for the first presentation, and the Academic Showcase for the fall semester. I was slightly worried about this presentation because I did not have long to memorize what I wanted to say. I did create notecards, but I chose not to use them, and I'm glad I chose not to. Having confidence in my ability to recite my presentation from memory truly benefited my presentation. It allowed me to focus on the audience more: more eye contact and gestures. Overall, this presentation was the one to stress me out the most, but I also believe that this presentation could easily be considered my best presentation of the
