Peer Review Assessment
The peer review assessment was very helpful for me because I learned the faults about my paper through my fellow students. I realized my strengths and weakness in my paper. The strengths of my paper are my use of details. The weakness of my paper is I get extremely off topic and start to wander off. I have learned to use more vivid imagery to describe my writing. I was extremely impacted by this peer review because I worked with people that I like.
I was very attentive when doing peer review because the information being handed to me was valuable, I able to learn what was wrong with my paper without having credit taken off because it was wrong. Peer review helped me learn a lot about my writing not only in the class
but in general. I also received good feedback that helped me improve my papers drastically. Peer review was also a challenge for me because the reviewer did not always offer constructive criticism. In the beginning I got a lot of things like “great paper” even though it was not my final draft I knew it wasn't a great essay. After we got more comfortable with each other I started to receive real criticisms. Another thing that was not great was I was not sure if the there comments were right or not. I let my friends peer review my papers before I turn them in and everyone had a different opinion on what I should change. The only opinion that matters is the grader so I was not sure if I should follow the peer reviewers guidelines. Other than that I liked the peer review process.
In the article of Daniel Richards, the author mentions about in-class peer review. Daniel shows the readers about two types of students who were facing the in-class peer review. One student acts very nervous and he is scared about being shamed if he read his draft in front of his classmates. Other student acts like very confident about his writing and be ready to show his classmates how good he is in writing. In-class peer review exists some social factor about feeling. It may get hurts, the emotion of your classmates and your teacher, feeling shamed when your classmates rate your draft bad. However, the feedback from your peers will motivate your writing somehow. You will know which your weak side and strong side are, then you use it in order
Getting feedback is very helpful. It can make you a better writer, it helps you to determine that you understand the assignment and to make sure you know what you’re talking about. With the feedback that was given to you in the original paper you can implement in your final piece by following through with feedback for example the feedback states that you have grammatical errors correct those, margins are out of place fix it, etc.
Introduction During the process of research, professionals collect data or identifiable private information through intervention or interaction. While this is a vital part of the scientific and medical fields, every precaution must be taken by researchers to protect the participants' rights. Ethics, outlined by the Belmont report; requirements, described by the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS); and regulations, laid out by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) are verified by an Institutional Review Board (IRB). This procedure ensures that all human rights are safeguarded during the entire research process. The Institutional Review Board The IRB is an administrative body which has been established to make sure research participants' rights are protected.
Once the application and all consent forms have been submitted you have the right to know the phone number of the research ethics board that has approved your research study in case you or your participants have questions concerning the process in the research study. According to the (Veritas IRB, 2016) the research conducted should be to improve the welfare of the human population and that all human subjects can participate regardless of current health conditions or affiliations with a group. The issues that may impact my research studies will be to identify the target area of my research due to the vast amount of areas open to further research. The next step that can impact my research will be determining the research participants that are motivated to participate because of the benefits of the research study. By understanding the process and answering all questions presented the research participants can be assure that integrity, and ethics are always imposed during the research study.
I learned from my peers that I am a better writer than I thought I was and that increased my confidence in my writing ability. This didn’t just teach me about myself; I learned how to write several different types of papers. I improved throughout the semester as I learned how to analyze for rhetorical appeals, research an issue, and evaluate a topic. I am glad that I was able to learn a lot from this class, as well as read my peers work. It was intriguing to see how others write and what topic are important to them. Lastly, I was proud of all my work that I accomplished in this
While Joyce’s and Eliot’s story’s are very different, one was deemed illegal for obscenity, whereas the other was the first and last of a dying breed. They both come to reflect the magazine for what it was, an avant-garde magazine. A magazine that published completely out of the box ideas, while still remaining relevant to the public; Joyce and Eliot were pioneers in the modernist movement, but what was unique about them was their type of modernism; one which blended old ideas with new concepts. These were the men who represented The Little Review with their words, while their valiant leaders: Margaret Anderson, Jane Heap and Ezra Pound were the ones who represented The Little Review through their admonishing of their past lifestyles to take on a new adventure—or maybe an old adventure in a new light.
Gradually through the whole semester, Peer Review sessions became a great and positive influence on my writing. It is very helpful to have two people with different views on writing read and critique my paper, and give me feedback on what they think I should improve or correct. We didn’t change peer review groups and I was very delighted because I have gotten a chance to see my group members grow as a writer. When it’s time to revise my paper before I turn it in for a grade, it is very helpful to have some options on what to exactly revise in my paper. For example, in my comparative analysis essay, both of my peer reviewers wrote that my introduction was not effective and i...
After using the free electronic-review services Smarthinking and Paperrater, I have to say I was not expecting the responses that I received. I worked hard to make sure I used proper grammar and spelling. Furthermore, I proof-read my work many times to ensure it was correct and I still had a couple of grammatical errors. It was also suggested that I change the wording in my first sentence and add an explanation sentence at the end of the first paragraph.
What have you learned about review and critique in this course, and how has this impacted your work in the projects and final
The first English course I took in college was a basic introduction to writing, during this course we learned how to write a good essay, we learned techniques to improve our writing and we learned how to organize our ideas and put them in a logical manner. We did a lot of discussions and during this class was the first time that I was involve in peer reviewing. My second course I took was with the same professor, Mr. Braun. I believe he was a great educator and he really showed interest in helping their students that’s why when I had the opportunity I choose him to be my professor
In final analysis, my writing has greatly improved during this semester, and having looked at the area's I most need to work on has given me an awareness of what my weaknesses are. Examining what I have learned and what I need to learn allows me to generate a strategy to fortify my writing skills. Critiquing my own work has given me insight into how my writing is progressing in this class and allowed me to see short comings I had missed previously. Self-evaluation is a helpful tool for anyone who wants to continue to learn what areas they can improve upon and how much progress they are making. I believe those who appraise their own work will have a better understanding of their strengths and weaknesses then those who do not evaluate themselves.
I do my own work for many of my classes. For example, in Global I make my own outlines for the sections and chapters assigned to me. This helps me understand the class more. In middle school Social Studies was not my strongest class. This is because I didn’t do my own work and when I did I often only did part of it just so I could get credit. This year in Global I started to do my own work and my grades showed. Global is now my strongest class and my highest average. Many people think that by copying someone else’s homework it is the easy way out for doing your own work. However, doing your own work does have some benefits. By completing your own work you have a better understanding of the class. It allows you to have a better grade for the class and makes studying for exams much easier. Having good integrity in your school life has many
... I was able to extend more on researching and writing to join a scholarly conversation about any topic and not just simply reporting any first facts. Due to the writing rubric, I believe that I stand in the range of a B. I put all effort into each paper that I write, and I make sure that they are handed in or posted on the due date. I never slack during work
According to Liu (1998), peer correction is a process in which learners read each other’s writings and provide comments on grammar, usage, content, word choice, and the structure of the essay. Hansen and Liu (2002) defined peer response as “the use of information and interaction between each other” (p 1). They found that peer comments could lead to meaningful revision. Revision based on peer comments can be better in vocabulary, organization, and content. Also, Nelson and Murphy (1993) described peer review as a process-based technique in which students evaluate each other’s' working drafts for the purposes of exchanging feedback. Hyland (2003) explained that peer review is a process in which students exchange their papers with one another and provide comments in oral or in written form during class
During this College Composition course, I came across numerous obstacles and educational involvements. Every factor of this course contributed to my overall learning experience. For starters, we often read out of our textbooks, “The Little Seagull Handbook” and “They Say I Say”. These books helped showcase proper writing techniques. In addition, we would have class discussions that everyone would participate in. This opened my eyes to different viewpoints that could influence my writing. I recall one class we had a debate over a topic and everyone had to choose a side to argue. Then when we wrote argument essays, even though they were on a different topic, it helped me view my topic in different ways. Lastly, the most helpful to my writing was peer review. We were told to read our paper out loud to our partner. Although personally I am quiet and dislike reading out loud, I found this very helpful. Instantly, my partner and I could find grammar mistakes that one may not pick up on while reading silently. Then we could also talk about other possible revisions for my paper. For every paper, we would have conferences with the professor. This was effective as well to have a professional giving corrections and ideas. When we would get back our graded rubrics on the assignments we completed, the instructor would leave comments to
