Over this semester we have and are continuing to discuss the many articles, case studies and watched seminars surrounding the idea of what popular culture is.
I believe there is many positive and negative affects regarding pop culture in our society. Our everyday lives are influenced by the current pop culture around us. Pop culture effects people in different ways it can be influenced through society’s behaviour, culture differences or within current fashion trends. In my option celebrities have the most influence when it comes to various forms of pop culture in today’s society. There are some positive and negative affects to pop culture today, today’s pop culture scene is not all bad. for example today’s society has gained a true acceptance towards the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender community, (LGBT) it has become accepted and even celebrated in pop culture today. In addition we are allowing same sex marriages and have Transgender Celebrities such as Caitlyn Jenner openly taking about her struggles within the transition period, she gives hope and encouragement to people in

For example we see in many magazines stars sporting a certain expensive designer purse or shoes. When we see our favorite celebrity wearing these accessories we tend to find ourselves wanting these fashion trends to look cool and emulate the popular stars, this is now trends began.
In conclusion I believe celebrities have truly influence pop culture in today’s society. Within this essay I have mentioned the many different influences that celebrities have on their fan, popular culture and society at whole. Celebrities hold a strong power to influence the lifestyle trends of an audience. As members of the entertainment industry, celebrities are looked up to as role models by a large general public. With such high exposure, celebrities essentially hold the power to positively or negatively influence their followers, from fashion trends to behavioral tendencies, the attitudes and lifestyle habits of celebrities influence cultural qualities and the way in which many people function within society. Mindy Kaling’s career started when she became an intern on the popular show “Late Night with Conan O’ Brien”. Whether entertainment media has a negative or positive social influence depends upon the individual participants and their perspectives. Because everyone is raised differently and has different experiences in their lives they also have a different perspective of events; therefore, no two people see or hear the same thing. This has been demonstrated numerous times by witnesses of a crime. If you have five witnesses and ask each of them what they saw, you will get five different responses because each of them saw the event differently.
The number of American troops killed in Afghanistan and Iraq between 2001 and 2012 was 6,488. The number of American women murdered by a current or past partner during that time was 11,766 almost twice the amount of people we lost to war. However, this does not just affect women. 1 in 4 women will be victims of severe violence in their lifetime, but 1in 7 men will be, too. In this paper, I propose that popular culture contributes to the high rate of domestic abuse in the United States. I will prove this by analyzing popular music, movies, and even looking at the news in today’s culture. Popular Culture has changed drastically over the decades with the biggest question being whether or not popular culture is a positive or negative expression of our ideas and reflections. American Pop Culture has an extremely important role that influences the United States and around the world. There are countless topics that make up pop culture and it is nearly impossible to name all of them. Some of the topics are Television, Music, Religion, Politics, Arts, Economy, Education, Family roles and structures. Three of the cultures that I believe has changed the most and seems to cause the most controversy are television, music and religion.
The term ‘pop culture’ refers to the ideas, style, and images that are popular and familiar in today’s society. Different things such as clothing, cars, music, technology and decorative accessories are considered pop culture. All of these things have changed throughout the decades. Guys now like to drive big trucks and sports cars and wear pants that look as if they are about to fall of. Girls are obsessed with being thin and need to have to latest style of clothing whether it be UGG boots or baggy sweaters. Besides for all of these, music is one of the biggest things in pop culture. Music is what influences the youth in a drastic way whether it be rock music or rap music.
According to Epstein, a celebrity is something or someone who can be talented and full of achievements and yet wish to broadcast ones fame further through the careful cultivation of celebrity, while one can be the total opposite of achievements and be less talented and yet still be made seem otherwise through the mechanics and dynamics of celebrity creation (Epstein2). Celebrity culture today is epidemic; some might agree that it is sweeping up America in a harmful way, while one might argue that it is beneficial to our society. Over the last few decades, celebrity and fame has changed dramatically, from Alexander the Great to Kim Kardashian. The Effects of Popular Culture on Society Popular Culture is music, dance, theatre, film,T.V., poetry and Art which is enjoyed by a wide group of people. Some people would argue that popular culture in the 1960's cause harm. Other people however argued that other factors brought harm and change to society. Some people would argue that music would cause harm because of the lyrics in pop songs. Lyrics like 'Lets spend the night together' by The Rolling Stones, influenced young people to have casual sex.
