Have you ever think about the influences of celebrities that affect in people life. Celebrity is a kind of pop-culture that combines between interpersonal communication and media, and it creates desires from the people assumption or expectation. Celebrities are the important tools to attract audiences. The media scholars produce the celebrity content from what people expect from life. Celebrities may drive the directions of living such as habits, tastes, attention and ambition among people (Turnere). Nowadays, celebrities are all around us. They are one of the important people who can influence the media such as movies, drama, music magazines, news or even represent the nation. However, Celebrities’ influences would not always be good for everyone because they are not always reliable. According to Boorstin who called the modern world as a world of contrivance and warned about personal and social dangers of living and he called it a wall of mirror because there are people who extremely concern about self-worth and social authority. And these people are tending to develop their achievement of life to a celebrity status since they are highly addictive, passionate with celebrities’ behavior. The results of individuals can be a problem among because these people have stronger emotional support and give more meaning to celebrities than family, school, nature and community. From these, celebrities succeed in becoming a significant part of their life. In particular, it can cause the copycat behavior and various form of self-harm from celebrities such as burning oneself with cigarette, attempt suicide or becoming a murder. Psychologists also suggested that individuals who have suffered from some type of psychological and social disorder through divorced family are likely to have greater dysfunctional symptom (Boorstin, McCutcheon). Several celebrities like actors, musicians, athletes or comedians establish plenty of positive self-images which can motivate or inspire many young people. Plenty of celebrities’ names have been used for encouraging voting, raising funds for victims from natural disaster and creating a charity, or many campaigns like anti-violence or anti-AIDS. There are many celebrities who give back to society. The positive side of celebrities can inspire people. People may do some charity for giving back, do well at school and avoid many troubles (Muhammad). Many of them turn their fame to work for various organizations that help people such as Angelina Jolie became a UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador; she helped many refugees around the world. Moreover, she and her husband, Brad Pitt, have created the Maddox Jolie-Pitt Foundation, which aims to focus on the poverty and provides elementary and secondary education also protect natural resources and wildlife (Celebrities Using Their Fame to Do Good). Additionally, Shakira, a famous singer, has founded the organization “Pies Descalzos Foundation” that provides the education for people in Colombia, South Africa and Haiti (Celebrities Using Their Fame to Do Good).
