In this portfolio, I have learned how to determine the zeros of a function through various algebraical methods and graphically and solving quadratic equations in the complex number system. With these skills and concepts, I was able to apply them to real-world situations. This portfolio shows the various methods to determine the zeros of a quadratic functions. I had learned the four different methods: solve by factoring, square rooting, completing the square, and using the quadratic formula. If an equation is factorable, all four methods can be used to determine the zeros. If an equation is not factorable, the only method I can use is the quadratic formula. To identify the amount of real solutions, I applied the nature of roots of a quadratic function, also known as the discriminant. To find the discriminant, the formula b2-4ac will determine the amount of real solutions. If the discriminant is greater than 0, there are 2 real solutions. If its less than 0, there are no real solutions. Lastly, if the discriminant is equal to 0, there is 1 real solution. The vertex of a quadratic function is lowest or highest point on a parabola. The x-coordinate can be found using -b/2a then used to find the other variable in the original equation. I also learned that the axis of symmetry is the x-value of the vertex or midpoint of the two x-intercepts. I have also revisited similar word problems where I have to determine the variables, create a function, solve for the vertex using -b/2a, and using that to solve for the other variable. However, there are specific problems that require me to find the breakeven point or the x-intercepts in which I apply one of the methods to determine the zeros. Also, I learned that the breakeven point is applied in ...

...r this portfolio, I could improve by not procrastinating when it comes to completing reflections, captions, and homework. By managing my time more wisely, I can be more efficient and have more time to review or do other work. This can further my learning because these bad habits occur in my daily life. Unless I fix this bad habit, I will continue to have bad time management throughout my life. Also on my classwork and homework assignments I could write neater and show all my steps so when I review all my work I understand how I got my answer and the steps I took in order to get that solution. My thoughts are that I need to pay more attention during class because it affects my understanding of the lesson and concept or I end up writing things that do not make any sense. Also, I need to continue scoring well on my skill quizzes and tests to maintain or boost my grade.
When explaining the topic, I was completely lost and had trouble catching up but as soon as there was a demonstration, I soon caught on and was able to complete each equation with confidence.
In this section of your teaching portfolio, include a copy of your degree, teaching license, awards of honor and specialized training certificates. Adding these parts to your portfolio will give you as an educator the opportunity to illustrate your accomplishments and present yourself as a highly qualified
If you are asked to give an exact solution for a quadratic equation that does not have x-intercepts, then you will answer that question using the variable i. Say you need to find the square root of negative sixty-four. We know that the perfect square of positive sixty-four is eight. What we are going to do is take out i, resulting in the square root of positive sixty-four, which we know is eight, therefore the answer is plus or minus eight i. It is plus or minus because square roots can be positive or negative because a negative times a negative is also equal to a positive. You can also simplify an equation if there is a constant before the negative under the radical. You do the same thing in terms of simplifying as you would do without the constant. After you get your imaginary number you put the constant in the correct position, and then you are left with a complex number, such as a+bi. You can also simplify i when it is involved in a polynomial. If you multiply out two polynomials that have imaginary numbers in them you may end up with i with an exponent attached. You can use your previous knowledge of patterns to simplify the equation. Say you end up with a term along the lines of thirty-six i squared. We know that i to the second power is the same as negative one. From there we can multiply negative one and thirty-six to result in the product of negative thirty-six. As you have
the root to the function, like if it is a parabola with its vertex is placed
I believe it is important for any student who wants to do their best in a class to take a moment to evaluate their own work to determine the rate their writing is progressing and how they can continue to advance their writing. When I looked through my own work I asked myself “what have I learned this semester?” and “what do I still need to learn in order to improve my writing?”. Answering both these questions will help me with my last step of my self-evaluation, developing a plan to learn new skills.
Winston Churchill once said, “To improve is to change; to be perfect is to change often.” Chapters six through ten have helped me to learn a variety of useful information about myself that I have been able to use regularly. By reading these chapters, I have learned how to have better priority management; learned about myself and my personality type and strong intelligence; and developed learning skills along with an effective note-taking system. This information has had an positive impact on all areas of my life including my personal life; professional life; and educational life.
Paying attention to detail and effective writing are two skills that need improvement. I have noticed that when I take on large complex tasks, I am sometimes scattered and missed small details that may have a huge impact on my performance. I also realize that I am an emotional writer. When I am passionate about something, my emotions tend to show too much in my writing which dilutes the mission, goals, and objectives of the
Throughout the entire 2nd semester I have acquired some new writing, reading and analytical skills. Some of the important writing skills I learned are coming up with an arguable thesis, critical thinking and information literacy. Before I did not really have argumentative thesis’s in my writing, which made my papers never really, have a purpose; why am I writing this? I still have trouble every now and again, a comment you left on one of my papers said “good, but express your thesis more boldly, a directly.” I tend to always make my thesis to broad or too narrow when writing my essays. Another writing skill I learned is how to detect and fix run-ons and fragments in an essay. Also I hav...
Completing the SOSC226 Career Development 2 course taught me about the importance of using e-portfolios to help me preserve my course assignments. It also helped learn why it is necessary to build up and create a collection of my academic assignments. Completing the SOSC226 Career Development 2 course taught me how these collections are used to strengthen my business reputation with potential employers. I found it interesting that this course helped me learn to describe various Volunteering, service learning and being self-employed positions. It also taught me how they are used as references on resumes and during job interviews. Completing the SOSC226 Career Development 2 course taught me to outline the essential skills needed to find professional
To begin, I am going to write about my weaknesses and how they transitioned into strengths. First, I remember after each assignment in class was introduced I
My writing had improve from the beginning of this course to the end of the course. I had ups and downs writing all of my papers for example paper 3 I consider it was the hardest paper I had to write during the semester. The only problem I had during this semester it was that I never went to get help to improve my writing. What I had learn was that almost everyone struggle when it comes to writing a paper. Most writer have their strengths and weaknesses when it comes to writing. My main weaknesses as a writer was that I never look for help always done everything by myself. Also, that’s one of the main reason why I had struggle writing Analyze essay. For paper four I was very happy because I had gotten many suggestions and ideas for the last paper by my family and friends during the last few week of the semester. Another, weakness that I had during this course was not being confident of my work and not understanding what the text used to mean in a different perspective. By, the end of the course my strengths as a writer I had improve a lot. Now I can analyze any text and understand what it meant in different
I actually love to write because, it's really expressing how I feel about a certain topic. Some areas of my writing I believe still need improvement would be my vocabulary and punctuation. I want to be able to use higher vocabulary in my writing like college vocabulary. Also, wanting to know where I have to put commas and capitalization. Some goals I plan to attain for second semester is increase in vocabulary, and writing in a more academic or formal tone. The steps I have to take in order to achieve these goals would be to search up better usage in words also look over others essays and comprehend off of those. If I'm able to improve these goals, I believe my writing skills will be completed. Therefore, I hope I'm able to achieve these goals and become a greater writer than I am
I need to make a plan on how can I evaluate myself to see my progress in the self-change project to achieve my goal. I find our time and progress management chart that is helping me to see my progress each week. Then I did some
“Assessment is the process of identifying, gathering and interpreting information about students’ learning. The central purpose of assessment is to provide information on student achievement and progress and set the direction for ongoing teaching and learning” (NSW Department of Education and Training, 2007, p.1). I believe an assessment strategy which best encapsulates this understanding of assessment is the portfolio. Specifically, a process portfolio provides a wealth of information about a student’s progress in literacy and not only allows a teacher to assess the learning that has taken place but also helps them to identify the areas in need of improvement. Additionally, the crucial element of the student’s self-assessment and self-reflection in the process of creating the portfolio also allows both the teacher and the student to understand the progress, strengths and weaknesses of their writing.
I also improved my organization. While this still remains a challenge for me, I believe that I’m still improving in this area. Through the semester, I realized that before I even start to write I need to have my thoughts and research as complete as possible. When I did not do this my writing was confusing. I absolutely now know that I must make a list of ideas, facts, and think through the organization before I start writing sentences or the final product is really never as good as if I had started it
