Self-change project
William Penn quotes that time is what we want most, but what we use worst. Self-change is a very hard processing for many people. My self-change project is to complete my schoolwork on time. I need to improve my study planning and time management skill in order to get a better grade in all the classes. I would like less focus on chores at home and do not waste time watch movie, playing games. I want to focus on improving my study plan and time management after evaluating my habits and behavior.
I need to make a plan on how can I evaluate myself to see my progress in the self-change project to achieve my goal. I find our time and progress management chart that is helping me to see my progress each week. Then I did some

research on "how to make my chart" which help me to get an almost accurate result for the self-change project. I notice some changes in my daily routine as I am following the chart. I experienced some positive and negative effect to maintain the self-change project.
The positive effects are complete schoolwork on time that decreases my stress level. On the other hand, I am spending more time compare before to complete schoolwork. I need to follow the same schedule every day, which is making me feel bored. Sometimes, I did not get enough motivation to complete my homework, sometimes I feel homework are going be hard then before and sometimes I feel sleepy while doing schoolwork. I decided to change myself slowly everyday base on study load. I start to get a positive result after few weeks.
My learning style is visual-spatial and interpersonal. Visual spatial helps me to recognize relationships between objects and representing something graphically. Similarly, interpersonal skills help me to relate others, noticing their moods and feelings and doing teamwork. I always like to go learning lab to discuss my study problem with a tutor that help me a lot.
I created a one-week baseline assessment of my target behavior as it occurs normally and charts the result perfectly. This result show that how am I imperfect about my study? My family members are always telling me that if I do not change myself then no one can change me. I saw some motivation program on TED and educational program on YouTube that helps me keep me motivated. What is most important for me right now? This question always helps me to motivate and complete my schedule
work. When I complete me all homework, I reward myself by watching my favorite show or cooking some new foods. Sometimes, I like to listen to music or go outside with my friends. At the end of the project, I truly understand about my consequences and myself. I want to keep my time management structure same and I am going to review monthly basis to add or reduce from the self-change project. It also helps me to do well my other classes and reduce my stress. Myself changes project help me to find out where I need to focus.
A vast amount of psychological evidence suggests that a positive correlation exists between motivation and success; Individuals that are highly motivated will ensure total preparation, which, in turn, will ensure maximum performance and success. This same concept applies to making changes in life. In reality, change can be difficult; people’s lives are relatively enduring and habits are usually deeply rooted. Breaking habits and finding the motivation for meaningful and long lasting change can ultimately lead to a rewarding and fulfilling
This health behavior change helps to target my lifestyle and diet. By implementing at least 30 minutes of physical activity and not resorting to junk food immediately after, will help increase my self-esteem and body image. The theory that I have chosen to apply to my behavior change is the Transtheoretical Model. The theory is based on the constructs of stages of change, process of change, and self-efficacy. The five stages of changes include; pre-contemplation, contemplation, preparation, action and maintenance (Hayden, 2014). Where I am at in the stages of change would be under the contemplation process. The contemplation stage is an individual assessment that looks at the pros and cons of this behavior change. When someone decides to change,
In March, my PSYC class was presented with a challenge - to identify a personal improvement goal and to address this issue using an Immunity to Change map. My lengthy list of personal struggles was quickly narrowed down to one item with focused reflection. My improvement goal was to engage in productive thoughts and behaviors that would provide better time management practices. I was initially looking to improve my behaviors at home so that it would translate into success in all areas of my life including my career. With thoughtful observation and consideration, the Immunity to Change (ITC) map provided a developmentally raw process that continues to help me focus on my improvement goal today. Although I am still working on this goal, this process created more opportunities to make significant development changes above and beyond my initial intentions.
Over the process of working on this assignment, I completed several personal development measures from the Self Assessment Library by Stephen P. Robbins. After completing my first few measures, I realized a trend that was occurring. All my answers and explanations related back to one important factor, motivation. Motivation is defined as “the intensity, direction, and persistence of effort a person shows in reaching a goal” (Mann, pg. 300).
In many ways developing a personal improvement plan can help prevent complacency, generate personal growth, and build self-confidence. The basic premise is based on the determination of specific goals, and developing strategies to achieve them. As a forty-seven year old college student, I’ve had my share of implementing improvement plans. Some bore excellent results, while others produced stress and anxiety. Cultivating improvement requires an awareness of your particular strengths and weaknesses, also diligence to work on those areas. In the past, I had a tendency to become depressed, or discouraged when I failed to reach a goal. I am a thinker by nature and apt to experience analysis paralysis, a state in which I become so caught up in planning that I cannot take action. The areas I struggle with the most are, stress management, time management, and finding an optimal learning method in class. It is my plan to overcome these challenges and attain a more empowering perspective, refine my university experience, and ensure that I successfully integrate personal and academic development effectively, in a way most beneficial to my future.
Learning is defined as a permanent change in attitude or behaviour that occurs as a result of repeated experience (Sims & Sims, 1995). Understanding one’s learning style has many advantages as it can help one to identify the learning method or activities that can help to optimise the learning experience. It has been suggested that the importance of one’s learning style has been identified through studies and research on how one can maximise the potential for success and further learning development (Honey & Mumford, 2006). Learning styles are unique to each individual and are developed in childhood (Chase, 2001). We all have different personalities; therefore we all have preferred learning styles that suit us best. The way one learns depends on preference. Some learn by observing, listening and imitating others and draw conclusions from their experience. There are several factors that affect our learning style; for example, background, culture, religion and environment can have a major influence on one’s learning.
A big component of my learning style is hands-on experience; learning while doing. This usually involved someone with more experience instructing me as I performed the task. Through the hands-on approach, I picked-up the knowledge and gained proficiency as I went along. My learning style also involved standard classroom instruction, which usually meant listening to lectures and taking notes. My note taking was not the best so in order to make up for what I lacked in note taking, I would read the textbooks repeatedly until I understood what I was reading. I learned that in order for me to get a complete understanding from my readings and notes, there had to be a lot great deal of repetition ...
I write this clear and concise reflection to identify and evaluate an academic problem that I feel is negatively impacting my studies which is time management; otherwise, I find lot of difficulty to manage my time.
“A learning style is a way of learning and refers to the way that you learn new information” (2). Most people have one preferred learning style and perform to a lesser standard when learning in a different style than what they’re used to. Nowadays, children are told to take a quiz in school to determine what their preferred learning style is, but after a few years, not many of these children remember what their preferred learning style is, or even if they do, they don’t apply it to their learning.
In the past, I have always studied with the T.V. on and while listening to music, which was not helpful because they would both distract me from studying and learning. Ergo, my environment would keep me from learning to maximum potential. Contrastingly, my learning environment in school was very helpful, my teachers always made sure we comprehended all the information and were open to answering any questions we had on any topic, which in a sense made up for my bad physical environment. In regards to my motivation, I have never liked school and have always wanted to be done with it. As a result, I would never want to study and would procrastinate and end up studying the night before tests instead of planning out my studying time. However, over time I have realized that getting an education will increase my chances for a more successful life in the future and that is what motivates me to do well in school. Simply put, in the past I was a learner who used many different learning strategies in order to succeed, was an unmotivated person, and had a negative physical environment, but a positive school-learning
Start to see yourself at your end goal. While the journey is the most important part, envisioning yourself at your end goal can help draw it to you. See yourself having the A in class, see yourself being fit or muscular, and soon enough you'll notice yourself working towards it more than
There are many different parts to time management, such as procrastination, strategy, organization, expectations and being prepared. All of them contribute equally in many ways. All of the things that we have spoken about in this paper are highly recommended. The best thing to do when it comes to time management is to set a strategy, become organized and do your best to avoid procrastination. When you manage your time make sure you include the following; studying, sleeping, eating, relaxing and other necessary things. No matter what our circumstances are, we can all use some time management skills in our lives.
The next step after acknowledging and being aware of my personal weaknesses would be to take action to create a goal that applies to these areas. By creating SMART goals for stress, and time management, I will have a structured goal to bettering the way I care for myself.
...per for you to see every day, makes it easy for you to work towards those goals. I am very confident that I will be able to accomplish all of my goals if I continue to follow my action plan. I will also benefit by having less health issues. Knowing what my strengths and weaknesses are will allow me to build and grow to be a better person. My main goal is to work on my patience. I feel this goal will be the hardest to achieve because it will be a working progress. By creating this action plan, I learned that no one person is perfect. We all have flaws, but we are all capable to succeed if we put forth the effort. This was definitely a learning experience for me, and I hope to continue to grow from what I learn throughout my college experience and life itself. I would recommend this process to anyone trying to accomplish their goals, and eliminate stress.
Thought out our lives, we are faced with many different learning experiences. Some of these experiences have made a better impact than others. This can be attributed to everyone’s different multiple intelligences or learning styles. A persons learning style is the method though which they gain information about their environment. As a teacher, it is our responsibility to know these styles, so we can reach each of our students and use all of the necessary methods.
