I am an eager student on a uniform public service course. I want to be a detective in the police however I am aware that I must pass certain fitness tests to gain entrance. In this report I will be exploring the components of fitness and I will compare my personal results to the entry requirements need to gain entrance into three different uniformed public services and how I can improve my results to be able to appeal for the Police Force. The candidates must be wearing a breathing apparatus and be in full PPE always. The candidate must crawl through a measured crawl and walkway within a given time. During this test candidates must perform certain tasks stimulating a task they would have to do if they were dealing with compartment fires. At the start of the route their vision is clear however halfway through their vision is obscured and they must retrace their footsteps to where they started. The candidates are assisted by a safety officer, if needed. There is no pass mark, as it is not testing the candidate’s fitness level on its own, as the test is more job related.
Equipment Assembly Test
The equipment assembly test is a test of hand-eye co-ordination. This test also shows how well a candidate listens to a set of instructions, as they construct and take apart a piece of equipment, within a given time. They are given a colour-coded illustration that they must flow. They must wear full PPE. There is no pass mark, as it is not testing the candidate’s fitness level on its own, as the test is more job related.

They must have the arms crossed over their chest. They are allowed someone to stand on their feet to stop them from moving. The level need to pass the entrance requirements into the army is the same for males and females, it is 50 sit-ups in 2 minutes.
Press-ups Test
The press-up test, is a test in which candidate have two minutes to do as many push-ups as they can do. They must start in the in the plank position, they must be able to rotated the elbow. They must keep the back straight and when they have lowered their torso, it must be 2-4 inches of the ground. The level need to pass the entrance requirements into the army, is difference for males and females. The pass level for a male is 44 and for a female is 21.
1.5 mile Run
The 1.5 mile run, is a test in which candidates must run a course that is on a level ground. Before candidates start the 1.5 mile run, they must warm up with other candidates, starting with a slow jog and walk over 800 metres. The level need to pass the entrance requirements into the army, is difference for males and females. The pass level for a male is 10 minutes and 30 seconds and for a female is 12 minutes and 45
