1..I'm a team player. I learn along with my mentees and mentors. Together we learn to be better teachers, listeners, students, and people in our community. This is a quality I improve on in my daily interactions and with every session of Pipeline. With my mentees, I seek to bring positivity, good communication, and lead by example. I grow with my Pipeline family in and out of our meetings to know each other better and understand our different viewpoints and experiences. With that, I seek to build on the strengths of the group and develop ways to improve in areas of weakness. This is a transferable skill I apply to areas outside of Pipeline. From work to class, I work with others, listen to varying opinions and try to find common understand and ground amongst everyone. Teamwork is an essential quality to creating a productive atmosphere amongst students, coworkers, etc. and is a quality I continue to strengthen with all …show more content…
I always seek to master material on my own. Also, I seek ways to integrate the things I learn into my surroundings and build upon prior knowledge. I look for connections and applications and seek help for more information or clarification. I carry this approach to Pipeline because there are a lot of things to learn from my mentees. Although, my mentees are a couple years younger than me, I understand their high school experience is not the same experience I had. They tell me what they're going through, areas they want to improve, and ask me questions about the material we discuss during Pipeline. I learn how to be a better mentor and confidant from my mentees. This is a transferable skill to take onto primary care. There are lots to learn from patients-from their background health history to their personality to the current choices their making in regard to their health and wellbeing. I need to quickly listen and adapt to the needs and wants of my patients and this process require me to be a quick and active listener and
With the knowledge acquired through the classes I will be a better manager to server to my colleagues in my upcoming career and it will help brighten my future. My passion of being a leader within a healthcare facility comes from knowing that if employees are treated well and happy with their job they will have excellent customer service skills and treat patients with excellence. When a patient is sick they are at the most vulnerable time of their life. If you receive awesome customer service during your most vulnerable time you will feel grateful. I have had many patients at my job express how we don’t make them feel like other doctors office. The patient has expressed that at other doctor office they just feel like another number. When a patient feels as if the staff, doctors, and manager care they will see the whole environment as effective leaders for all healthcare organizations.
I feel is very important to be aware of the counter-transference, transference and boundaries issues around the treatment area. Knowing how to address these issues to the patient is also very important, this is something I have to work on.
I am Savanna Tozzolo and I am currently enrolled in Health Science 1, period 6. I believe that I am a qualified person for continuing onto the next level of the health and medical science program at SCHS because I am a good leader, respectful, compassionate, trustworthy, honest, self-disciplined and unique. When put in group I am a natural leader, members often agree that I’m the best at it. As a leader or member of a group the others can always count on me to do my part and contribute as much as I possibly can. I believe that respect and honesty are great qualities. I respect everyone and I tell everyone the truth no matter who they are. I want to make the world a better place and it couldn’t prosper without the people within it having those
It is up to the healthcare professionals to assess and evaluate the patient's learning needs and readiness to learn because everyone learns differently. Healthcare is very sensitive industry because human life is attached to it. Barriers during teaching patients or learning for patients might cost life and law suite. For example, if the patient is sick, the probability for the client to have the interest to learn is unlikely. Therefore, I have to ask the patient what he needs and what interest him from other healthcare professional around. By doing so, I can increase the interest of the client/patient to learn the information I am looking to provide him/her/them. Therefore, by gathering important information from the patients how best they prefer to receive the information and involving other health care team on finding out the effective way of the information can be productive are the best way to overcome the barriers of learning in healthcare
In the mental health field it takes several people to diagnose, treat, and help clients. In this field the professionals must find a way to use each other’s strengths and compliment each other’s weaknesses. At a young age I learned what teamwork really meant by growing up in a big family. We always had to do chores together and work together to accomplish tasks. As I got older I applied my teamwork to the field as I led my high school varsity Field Hockey team to the Group Finals as a captain. I learned that using people’s strengths can make a much better impact than just one person’s strength. I plan to carry that teamwork over to my education and work experience in becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor. In order to be a professional I must be great at taking advantage of teamwork and given my experience in working in several groups I think I am up for the
However the institution must be willing to support mentorship programs. For educational institutes and clinical practice settings mutual partnerships regarding co-operation and support are needed to develop the capability of the mentor to provide effective mentorship to mentees (Jokelainen et al., 2013). Jokelainen et al. (2013) suggests the mentor know the curriculum which will ensure consistency. One drawback was a lack of partnerships made between educational institutes and clinical practice placements, collaborative partnerships are needed (Jokelainen et al., 2013). Educational and clinical institutions should be providing peer-review process of the mentor’s capabilities, along with proper support, adequate preparation. These actions will strengthen the motivation of the mentor to the student’s. Unit staff should be involved in partnership collaboration with the mentorship program to equip students with the necessary tools to acquire competent nursing skills. Increasing collaboration among educational institutes, clinical facilities and unit staff creates a positive work environment, which will improve job satisfaction and turnover rates (Jokelainen et al.,
As a result, I always felt that I am actively participating in patients’ care. She allowed me to perform patient examinations most of the time and encouraged me to build up a good rapport with the patients. I think my past experience and medical knowledge was helped me lot during the history taking because I was able to go through history taking in a systematic manner and at the same time I could think of possible differential diagnosis. Furthermore, working in a medical clinic as a physician assistant also helped me a lot because one of the responsibilities delegated to me is taking patients history, however, this time it was different that I had to work out and actively think about a possible cause for patient concerns. The weakness I observe during history taking was sometimes I am little quick that might hurt the doctor-patient relationship, So, I am planning to improve my listening skill with less interruption to patients, I believe that might help the patient to express their concerns freely. Also, I am determined to listen to patients concerns in a non- judgemental manner to get the unbiased clinical
During March 2016, in Stage 1 of the pharmacy degree, I attended a two day work placement in a community pharmacy as part of the Work Based Learning module within the Capability unit. The purpose of Work Based Learning is to increase engagement with learning and to develop skills specific to patient pathways. This will link to Stage 4 of the MPharm course in which the main unit is Patient Centred Care. Therefore, it is imperative that I enhance my patient education skills through my own education.
As I reflect on how quickly we have moved through our last days of school, I do so reminiscent of how fast the past six years have flown by! It is with pleasure that I take this opportunity to write you and thank you, for your support in what has proven to be another busy, and successful school year. Thank you to all for your partnership, and sharing the gift of your hopes, dreams and aspirations, cleverly disguised as children!
Coming into the nursing program, I was hopeful and looking forward to the new career. I have had issues, and it has taken me longer than expected to complete the program. I think because of this my strengths and areas of growth have changed. Per Strengths Quest my top strengths are ideation, connectedness, and individualization, strategic, and deliberative. I think the areas that will help me most as a nurse are ideation, individualization, and strategic. Ideation has helped me to learn ideas and concepts quickly. So, I can explain them to those around me including patients. Likewise, being able to focus on the individual means I can what people need by finding the best way to act that out. It particularly helps in the areas of educating, and advocating for the patient, as many procedures and protocols will be the same. Also, being strategic will help me get things done efficiently. As I get more experience as a nurse I can use this to consider new ways to improve the working environment for those around me as well.
Luckily, I am very comfortable with patients, which made providing care very easy. I was not afraid to go into other patient’s rooms if they rang for help. I would try my best to help the patients; however, if I needed help I was not afraid to ask a fellow student or nurse on the staff. It is very important to be able to talk to patients and work as a team with fellow coworkers as it made the job easier. On the other hand, I need to go over mother and baby assessments to become more familiar with both. I was able to complete the assessments; I now need to do so in a timelier manner while ensuring I do not forget any key areas. Lastly, it is vital that I continue to go over patient teaching prior to clinical. Being comfortable with the patients made the teaching easier, though I need to become more familiar with all the material that needs to be taught.
I have developed strong communication skills and gained such strong interdisciplinary relationships with doctors, nurse practitioners, patient care technicians, and healthcare professionals. Teamwork and collaboration attributes will be useful in my preparation to become an autonomous nurse practitioner and I am looking forward to further developing my connections, challenging myself and expanding my nursing
Today is the second session that I had counselor with this particle client. He came in to see me for the same problem that he had before. But except this time client had be doing a little than before. Before I started with the interview I had use the five stages and dimension of the interviews a client. I want to have an empathic relationship with my client, and gathering story and find the strength of my client is part of getting to know my client. This time I had set a realistic goal that my client can work toward without feeling that he is not in control of making the decision. The next is stage restoring finding what is not working now and trying to find an alternative that will work then take the action of letting the client go or
Prior to understanding the best methods for each patient to achieve successful retention, it is important for me to have an understanding of my best ability to learn so that this is possible.
My strengths are the ability to interaction with students. I will try to use my time to build positive relationship with individuals and keep record of their behaviors, characteristics and specific concerns. This will allow the students to trust me and allow me
